I absolutely love Hillside elementary. My son is in the pre-k and as this is his first experience in any kind of formal learning environment. It took a few weeks for him to adjust and be comfortable, but the teachers and the paraprofessionals (teacher’s assistant) are so wonderful and patient as well as supportive for both students and parents. My son has learned on par for his age and has gained some wonderful friendships. The school has many social engagements and ways for parents to be involved which has also created a wonderful opportunity for friendships amongst the parents within the community. The diversity is exactly what we wanted to expose our kids to and really helps promote inclusion of all cultures. Next year, our youngest will join his brother at Hillside and start pre-k and looking forward to another wonderful year with these amazing teachers, faculty, and staff. Keep up the great work!!

In terms of academics , this school may not be the best there is for a student seeking a challenging academic path. There seem to be no competitive urge in class and students perfomance seem to be sub par.Relating to my experience as a parent to a student who is now currently in 5th grade from 4th , I think the lines of communication with teachers are closed.Teachers does little to update parents on what is going on in class on a daily basis most probably because they may be limitd in terms of the means to break the barrier.Must point out that my student’s current teacher tries her level best to communicate by her own means.(Ms Hellwig).Other than monitoring the scores on Infinite Campus , what happens in class in terms of behavioral issues remains unknown until it becomes a huge issue for parents to be notified.PBIS Family app doesnt seem to effectively foster communication with parents. My student’s previous school used an app called Class Dojo and i must submit that it was an effective tool in monitoring the student’s progress on a daily basis academically and behaviorally—as this allowed real time communication with teachers thus getting parents input on time.Overrally , Adminstration does a far greater job keeping the parenting community involved and in the know about various issues via emails , the parents university etc.

This school is amazing, we have had the best experience at this school for many years, the staff are so kind as well as the teachers. Events are an ongoing motivating thing and the ones held at this school are great. I would highly recommend this school although many of the good teachers have left, the old staff are always there to provide a great time.

Without question the worst school I’ve ever encountered with 3 children and having lived in 2 states.

If I could give 0 stars I would! My son goes to this school and ha abren bullied multiple times. I expressed my concern to the teacher and nothing was done! He expressed his concerns to teachers and nothing was done! Then he started reacting and defending himself and then teachers have something to say! Requested meeting with principal and was promised a meeting which never came! I wish I would have listed to the neighbors at my complex when I moved here regarding bullying at Hillside Elementary and I would have not moved here. But honestly my son has been in multiple schools and he had never had any issues before. I am currently looking for a place to move so I can change him from schools. I’m writing this review not because I expected the school to do anything because I already know they won’t. Because they do not care! But because I hope parents check this before enrolling they kids and know where this school stands in bullying. I regret the moment I enrolled my son to this school!

We love Hillside. Even though my child went in the middle of a pandemic, I did feel we always had support and the teacher was willing to help us. The staff were always nice and the building was always clean.

We were there only for 5 months but absolutely loved how quickly the school responded. The teacher, Mrs. Fraser, Mrs. Sandra Keith, Mrs. Tanya Giles gave my son such a comprehensive evaluation that he needed. His next school that received his IEP and the psych we went to for official diagnosis for insurance purposes were super impressed, as was I.

I have a rising 8th grader who attended Hillside from K-5. I now have a 3rd grader at Hillside. The difference in our experience today versus 7 years ago is miraculous. We have a young, vibrant teacher base. Communication between staff, admin, and parents is, at a minimum, weekly. We have a Fulton County honored teacher and principal with innovative teaching methods, and my child, who is not in TAG, absolutely loves it. The social activities have improved, too...from International Family Fun Night to BINGO Night, and so on. We love Hillside, and the immense increase in progress and test scores has been incredibly exciting for students and parents, alike.

This is the second child I have had at Hillside. My first is a rising 9th grader who attended Hillside, and I feel the strong foundation he learned at Hillside, both in academics and in real-world learning experiences, set the stage for honor roll grades and great success in middle school.

My family's experience at Hillside has been absolutely awful. I would rate it a zero if I could. For all that school quality was a big deciding factor in my decision to purchase a home here, I sure did make a mistake with this school district thus far. Though to be fair, a year and a half ago, all three assigned schools were rated significantly higher than they are today. We came from a similarly rated school in Sandy Springs but the difference is like night and day. Prior to Hillside, my daughter excelled in all of her subjects, though admittedly, TAG was her favorite. She was also happy, just in general, and was, if not necessarily excited for school each day, certainly didn’t dread going. Since she’s been attending Hillside she has been bullied, both verbally and physically, on a near-daily basis to the point of being made physically sick by it. She has described to me multiple instances of being treated differently by teachers, as well. Never in an overt manner, mind you, but while kids are young, they aren't dumb. Aside from the TAG program which makes at least some effort to teach children in non-traditional manners, there is no support other than the suggestion of more computer time or homework to "help" children learn. The feeling I have been left with is that the staff and leadership are coasting by almost like they woke up one day and having accidentally found themselves in the positions they are, are simply hoping nobody notices their lack of effort and results or that they are far happier collecting a paycheck for doing literally as little as humanly possible. I am so glad we have less than 5 months left at Hillside before leaving it behind forever!

My children have thrived in this environment. The TAG class and teacher is so amazing and both my children love it. The content ban specialization has been good for my children's learning style. They are both accelerated and do well here.

I am disappointed in myself for not fighting the rezoning of my child to the sub-par school. I'm also disappointed in the school district for taking a children out of a school that's thriving and engaging them in different ways and put them in a school where the teachers don't seem to care and take a cookie-cutter approach to teaching. My daughter went from honor roll to barely passing some subjects.

We have had a very positive experience in our 3 years at Hillside! All schools have ups and downs and Hillside has worked hard to make necessary adjustments to ensure a safe, successful learning environment for the students and teachers. We have been very involved with the PTA and have also had a positive experience there as well. I do not believe any school is without its issues whether it be public or private, but I am satisfied and comfortable sending my children to Hillside!

I will NEVER volunteer at this school again! The PTA is awful. They will bully and exclude other parents, completely unchecked by the school. Worst Elementary School experience ever. Don't bother trying to be a part of school functions here.

We have been at Hillside for 4 years and we are all proud to he Huskies!! Dr Otway has done an outstanding job of encouraging and supporting the teachers and helping to foster community among a diverse school. We have a new compassionate AP who rounds out the already effective leadership team at Hillside. The approach to learning provides the opportunity to meet the students where they are at and place them in a classroom with similar learners. My children love Ms Chabot and Ms Farr but have had a positive experience with all of their teachers. The PTA is hard working and award winning and works tirelessly to provide a fun, cultural and learning and environment for the Hillside Community!

Our daughter has had a very positive experience at the school. The teachers are warm and caring. She has enjoyed the TAG gifted program, as well as accelerated math. Hillside is a very dynamic environment!

Hillside is such a great school. The teachers are content specialized which lets them teach what they love--so unique! A diverse school with a wonderful group of volunteering parents.

This school needs so much work! Academically, it's a disaster. Coming from the North to the South, I feel as though my child is behind compared to her peers in other schools. I was told that North Fulton had great districts however this is not the case. I love the area we live in but absolutely dislike this school. The school has had between 5-7 "teacher development" long weekends and notices were sent home maybe on Wednesdays? when the students are expected to be out of school Thursday through the following Tuesday. Then the students are out of control in the classrooms - at least my child's class. Her teacher had no control over the class which I witnessed several times because I was a mystery reader and a Room Mom. My child would often get picked on and then reports would only reflect her reaction after something was done to her. SMH! Just madness. I truly believe the teachers do not care or at least are not equipped to handle teaching. The principal is present in the school but clearly not involved in the academic portion as these children are not challenged. My husband and I are getting a home in a totally different county and hopefully this one will be efficient at least for academics. Sincerely,Disgusted Parent.

My child is in the special needs Pre-K class. He has spectrum autism disorder and ODD. The team of teachers who support him and us as a family is AWESOME. They do a great job of balancing love, yes love, and academics. They treat him with care but also keep a firm hand so he understands that there are boundaries and consequences for your actions. He is thriving academically and we are working thru the behavioral issues together. They keep me informed of his progress and prepare me for next steps on the horizon. I am so happy we are at Hillside... Looking forward to a great elementary school experience for my boy. Thanks faculty and staff. You really are awesome.
