If you are fortunate enough to get your kids into Vance, you will be so glad you did. It isn’t too big, all the teachers know all the kids. Time is made for each individual needs. This is truly a “throwback” school. A diamond in the rough, as I call it. Could not ask for more even at a private school.

Fantastic. We have been nothing but pleased since our daughter joined the school, mid-year. There were many reservations going in about what to expect and we have been blown up. The staff is amazing and already knew by daughter by name after being at the school only a few weeks. The communication is fantastic; I know what is going on each day and am given updates in real time. We had our children in other public and private schools and so far, our experience at Vance has been the best overall. I hope we can support the school and it's staff and help it to continue to grow and be a place my daughter looks forward to going every day.

We left this school for mostly the feeding pattern back when they did the choice plan. BOY have we regretted it. It is an amazing school. I agree completely with the other parents comments. A very positive school, loving teachers who reward students to motivate them rather than punish them. We never heard teachers yelling at the top of their lungs at students, (yes this happens regularly at our 'newer', 'nicer' school. Don't question if your making a good choice. This is a great school and if it wasn't so traumatic to move my kid back and forth with a younger one that would have to make first time move too I would be back in a heart beat. Miss you guys!

Pros: The principal truly cares about the students. She is a consummate professional, attentive to parental concerns. She works to make things better immediately, rather than becoming defensive and/or paying lip service. This is a small school, with a family-oriented atmosphere, allowing for kids to be known by name by most of the staff. Many highly creative and compassionate teachers. Competent and proactive special education program. Staff are friendly and helpful. Cons: No real extra-curricular activities to speak of, PTA could be stronger and better-run, more volunteerism and parental involvement is needed, but this is a nice school. It's well-run and my child feels safe and loved.

This school is awesome. The best teachers in the county. A hidden jewel on Old Stage Road.

Vance has been a wonderful experience for my child. Mr. Rose came in from another state as a principle and his leadership has been excellent. Ms. Houghton was my child's 5th grade teacher. He did not want to take his first track out in October because he would miss seeing his teacher. The class did very well on their EOG's. My child said the class felt very prepared and very little pressure prior to taking the test. Great job Vance!

For our family, was a really frustrating, exhausting and sad experience! The teacher SCREAM to the students and the principal is not helpful. He is old school and is not open to new ideas.... The method of learning is not challenging enough for the children!

I have two sons at this school and have been very pleased. Most of the women in my family are teachers or retired ones and I always check with them about what is being taught and they are right on track and ahead in some cases. I am worried about the middle school and high schools in Garner, but I have a few years before I send the eldest son. There are issues of course and most of them are taken care of, but there have been some I would have liked to see delt with better.
