My children are receiving an excellent education, and I love that I am a partner in the process. With two kids at the Junior School, I have been very impressed with the changes that have been made over the past few years. The math program makes it easy for them to understand math concepts, while also giving them a great foundation for the future. The writing program has been implemented into their daily curriculum. My kids have benefitted from writing, reflecting, and reviewing everyday, rather than rushing to finish a report the night before it's due. I am an equal partner in my child's education. When there's a concern, I hear about it right away. The teachers know my kids well, and when I stop by, at least one will stop me in the hall and tell me something good about one of my kids. It's obvious that teachers have wonderful relationships with each student. Kids also learn about how to become a good person and citizen. Whenever they are "caught" doing something good, they receive a special postcard at home and are recognized in front of the entire school at the weekly assembly. There is also a focus on service and helping others. They truly care about their students!

I have three children. One child is a sophmore, another in the middle school and the third is in the junior school at SSA. These schools are amazing. First in the junior school they begin to mold your chid with a firm foundation for a successful life. The emphasis in K and 1rst grade is to learn to love to read. Every subject you have you must read to succeed. They also had my children writing and publishing books in K and 1rst. They teach children core values which they emphasize on a daily basis and at assembly once a week(Responsibility, Respect, Honesty,Safety and Kindness.) These principles are needed on a day to day basis for people to work and live together. Repetition is the mother of skill and the key to all success. Shadyside has provided all three of my children a road and foundation for success.
