I've tolerated this school for 3 years, and I kind of enjoyed it, however in my Senior year, it's become miserable.

PLEASE READ! I’m a recent Overbrook graduate. I’d to first start with the positives because unfortunately, they will be very quick to get through. The school DOES have a student resource officer from Pine Hill PD who is there every morning. I know this officer well enough to know he still holds that same title as of 2024 when I’m posting this. He would come by periodically throughout the day; most times accompanied by another officer; and they would check to make sure all doors are properly secured. Also making sure nothings going on that isn’t supposed to be both inside and outside of the school. It’s not on site security 24/7, but it’s enough to where I felt safe from the outside world in that school. Another positive would be that I never heard anything negative about any of the sports coaches, the band director, the choir director, or the theatre director. Everything after school was what made it worth showing up there at all. Now I will touch on the negatives as I am honestly all out of positives. First and foremost, please just refer back to the data. The teachers don’t teach. Someone else said it in a prior review as well. As one of the many low income students who attended, it felt like we were viewed as less than because we have less. Something my uncle used to say a lot is that “Feelings aren’t facts. The fact is that you feel.” Having to go through high-school with that mentality was anything but easy. On top of the fact that the school was constantly being worked on by some kind of crew for some kind of physical problem with the property. For example: Poor lighting, a roach problem the school has become known for, mold literally from top to bottom, and so on. Yes. AND SO ON… With the amount of land they have, what needs to be done is that school be demolished and a new one built. That would solve quite literally all of their problems. The biggest problem in my opinion aside from the mold is that there is no where to put another guidance counselor. There’s no room for the students and staff that are there already. 2 guidance counselors for let’s say 400 students? That’s a low estimate… Between classes, your child will be bumping into every single person that walks by. I’m not exaggerating in the slightest. Anyone under 5’8 was typically walking with someone 6’0 or taller for their safety. Because they CAN NOT SEE WHERE THEY ARE GOING. Again. I’m not exaggerating in the slightest. I still regret not going to CCTS instead. Look into them.

This school is full of teachers who seem to be in it just for the pay and full of students who have no limits and no boundaries. My child has had horrible experiences at this high school to the point where it became regular for them to have a bad day. All I want in life is to make my child happy, if you want the same, I do not advise you send them to Overbrook High School.

I was very excited because I saw this school had five star rate when coming to this school. Overall it was disappointing. The teachers don't even teach, but when they have to they pretend. The school has so many young teachers who are inexperienced or teacher who attended there previously as a kid. Most of the kids cheat in each class an I'm pretty sure the teachers aren't blind. If you ask me the biggest problem is that they don't teach but the tests are very difficult. On the other hand there are good teacher there, I've been moved a couple time. College prep is way more difficult than advanced, why is that you ask me? It's because no one is strict on teachers. Also another things is you become very independent I've seen people who need help but the teachers become deaf, the counselors are useless and to start with they don't help you get involve. Sports they only care about who knows the plays from the previous year, jv only plays 5 minutes and it's very horrible to watch. Clubs are set through the years of course freshman are scared and unaware so if you want your child to start good and gets good grades 9-12 grade I recommend you don't do the mistake of bringing him here.

I am a parent but I also am a former student. When I went to Overbrook there were a lot more problems at school such as fights and drugs. I am a believer that if you are raised well you will do well. I did well at Overbrook. I participated in many activities while going there and made life long friends. My daughter is now going to Overbrook and she is graduating this year in top 10 percent of her class. Overbrook is offering her AP classes and she has some of the most awesome teachers. I am happy with what Overbrook has given to the both of us.

I graduated from overbrook a few years ago. It wasn't a bad school, actually it was a decent school. There are some bad teachers, some average teachers and some great teachers just like any other school. It isn't just the teachers that make the school bad, it's also how the students approach their classes. Coming from a student that went there, a lot of kids would show up to class late and would argue with their teachers and for some reason the students parents will take their child's side. That's why when I read some parents reviews, I would love to see who their child is because them parents might be getting bad stories. I loved my four years at the Overabrook, I've learned a lot.

I think Overbrook gets a bad rep by a lot of people, but I don't think it's that bad here. Sure, I've had teachers who seemed like they could care less about how their students perform, but at the same time I've had a lot of teachers who were very nice and friendly that really inspired me to do better. The administration is pretty strict on a lot of things but they've done a lot to make the school a better place and it's nice to know that they actually care. In my experience guidance has been very helpful and the counselors are very nice. The student body is also very diverse and full of talented and bright kids. The curriculum could use a little improvement as well as the general atmosphere, but overall it's not a terrible school.

If you're considering a move to Pine Hill, West Berlin, or Clementon, think again. Ignore the previous post; the poster was obviously a disillusioned band-parent who knows nothing of the school other than the performing arts program. While Overbrook boasts an impressive arts program, talent and funding are dwindling. From an academic perspective, this school will not prepare your children for a four-year university. The majority of students attend community or local colleges. Teaching is not rigorous. APs are lacking. Administration is awful, removed, and not making the necessary changes to the curriculum. Teachers, overall, are not very interactive or demanding. The guidance department lacks knowledge of elite universities and the classrooms are run by unmotivated, misbehaving students. The demographics of the school mean that many students come from low-income households and lack a lot of parental involvement. Crime and safety are a factor. It is very below average in every aspect. Technology is outdated, save some newly added SmartBoards. Do NOT send your children here if you want them to have a chance at a decent livelihood after graduation.

Overbrook is truly wonderful school! I had two kids go through there and I believe it was just a terrific experience for them! The education is first class. The teachers really care about the students and work hard to make sure every student gets the same opportunities. The music, theatre and choir programs are one of the best in the state. The marching band, and jazz band are always winning first and second place at all their completions. They got third in the state this year and fifth in nationals. Also, many students in band audition and get in All South Jersey band and All State Band, we even had one student make fifth in the state in mallets. The choir program is also top rate we had 32 kids make All South Jersey choir (the most in South Jersey) this year and 15 students make All State Choir. We had a student place first, second, and seventh in the state for Tenor one. We had a student place seventh and tenth in the state in Bass one. That is just unbelievable! The sports may be lacking but with such little money coming in the school does a great job! Overall, Overbrook is one of the best schools in New Jersey!
