We have loved our experience at Whittier. Teachers are caring and supportive, and our children have been thriving. The principal knows every kid by name and greets them all as they enter the school, and when they leave for the day.

My experience has been rewarding. Teachers, Staff and the Principal are caring individuals working towards the same goal.

My child has had a wonderful year. He has learned so much. He is so supported. The teachers and staff really work as a team to help children. I was so worried he would not pass because of the MOWR law but now he will be able to go to 4th grade with his freinds. Whittier serves a very needy population and the teachers are so caring.

I was so sad when we moved away and knew we wouldn't be returning to Whittier this year. The school has a lot of room to grow, but a great staff that is dedicated to meeting the needs of children. They are all so friendly and helpful and the campus is a welcoming and warm place for children to learn. I had children in Kindergarden, 3rd grade, and 6th grade, and all of the teachers were wonderful. We really miss Whittier!

Under new leadership, Whittier is blossoming! There is a core group of amazing teachers, but some of the newer teachers are a little iffy, and unfortunately, the "old" principal ran off some other good teachers and some classes have been stuck with subs all year long, but things are looking up. Miss Okyere, the principal, is very responsive and kind to parents. Unlike the previous principal, she is also respectful to students and teachers. Mrs. Woodrum taught my nephew at another school and is now teaching my son, and she is amazing. My son is excited to go to school every day. He also loves the recess teacher, Coach Trissa. I can't wait to see Whittier become an A school, so much potential!

Some fabulous new teachers! We actually moved here from a different school to follow one of our favorites. Fingers crossed we get her next year in 3rd grade! I don't like the way that some teachers talk to children, though, in a very derogatory manner. Ever been in a school where teachers are allowed to blow whistles in children's faces? Where kindergartens are forced to walk with their arms folded across their chests, even ON STAIRS!!?? It's abhorrent, and I wish something could be done about it. Parent involvement stinks. I don't understand how two schools in the district are allowed to mandate parent involvement and other schools aren't. It puts Whittier at a disadvantage. I wish that some of the teachers and support staff (even the "behavior expert" spends a lot of time screaming at children. What??) would learn some better management techniques, but overall the curriculum is excellent, expectations are high, speech and language services are excellent, and my children look forward to going to school every day.

3 of my children are current students at Whittier. All of their teachers are, and have been, great teachers. The principal has the students' best interests in mind all of the time. My kids are all excelling on the standardized tests and are constantly learning. My oldest goes to ELP once a week, which is a great tool for those that need a little extra challenge. None of my kids, or any of my friends' kids seem to fall between the cracks or get left behind, but there are always new challenges for the kids at the top to work toward. I love this school and the staff!

I thought about sending my daughter here this year for kindergarten because the curriculum seems excellent. I have a cousin who is in the 3rd grade that attends this school. She is doing very well academically, and in that aspect, Whittier almost seems to be an Excelling school. But my concern was the bullying. My little cousin was constantly bullied by a boy in her class who actually physically assaulted her on more than one occasion. One of those times was with a pair of scissors. All the teacher ever did was send this student to the office time and again. I'm not sure if the kid was eventually expelled or not, but I do not feel comfortable sending my little girl to that school.
