This school is horrible. The teachers, principal and counselor are awful! They treat the children bad and don't care about them. Don't put your child in this school!

Village Meadows Elementary School has come a long way these past few years and have made major improvements given our nationwide teacher shortage. Administration is trying very hard to keep highly qualified teacher at this school. Mr.C has been a great addition and hope he comes back next year. please consider placing your child here at Village Meadows Elementary, the change you want see starts with you.

I really wish there was more community involvement encouraged by the school ( events, transparent communication, and family liason). There is not a strong sense of community in the school or a PTO that I am aware of. I truly want to root for our public schools, but I don’t feel they want families in their business.

I agree with the other reviewer about not sending your child here if they are a bit challenging or have special needs. My son attended this school his kindergarten year 2016-2017 and did great! No problems at all. 1st grade, however, was a different story. He started having problems focusing, following directions, and finishing his work. He was being sent home early (sometimes within 30 mins of being dropped off in the morning) multiple times a week because according to the Ms. Weinman, the principal, “We run a school. Not a daycare.” At the advice of his teacher we took him to his Dr. to see what could be going on and after having his teacher and I fill out Vanderbilt Assessments (an assessment tool that reviews possible symptoms of ADHD and other conditions), his Dr. diagnosed him with ADHD and Oppositional Defiant Disorder. We thought having a diagnosis would help us start the process of getting him help or accommodations through the school such as an IEP or tailored behavior plan. Boy were we wrong. Even after multiple meetings with the principle and assistant principle it was clear they were going to keep doing everything they could to keep from having to work with him, while also making us jump through hoops. We tried to establish an IEP and as the previous reviewer also stated it took MULTIPLE meetings to even get the ball rolling. The principle was fairly rude and condescending at every meeting. Basically stating every time we saw her that she didn’t have time to deal with any of this or our son. We finally got the date set for his IEP assessment and the school has up to 60 days to schedule the assessment. They scheduled it for EXACTLY 60 days out. Then a week or 2 later they sent paperwork home saying that they were revoking his open enrollment status and we had 2 weeks to find another school for him. We lived practically across the street from the Village Meadows but it wasn’t technically his “home school” because of zoning so we had enrolled him there through DVUSD open enrollment. After that the assistant principal called me daily to ask if I’d enrolled him in his home school yet or found another non-DVUSD school for him. They clearly lack the skills, competence, and patience (as Ms. Weinman stated multiple times), to work with kids that are even the littlest bit challenging.

Teachers are caring and dedicated and the rest of the staff is competent, helpful, and know the kids by name. My favorite thing about the school is its positive behavior culture that emphasizes kindness, integrity, and so on. My daughter has been there two years and never been insulted or called names by another kid.

If you have a special needs student, choose any school but here! My special needs child is 6 years old, still wears a diaper, is developmentally delayed with autistic tendancies and gets suspended because the "principal" does not have time to deal wth anyone "special", she only likes the "perfect" students! Run from this school, it has been nothing but a nightmare! Good luck trying to get anyone over her head to call back as the "superintendent" refuses to take calls unless you go through 8 bazillion people before him, but none of them will return a call. So now I have to contact the State Superintendent of Public Schools & the Governor's Office to get my little guy an education. I can't get a report sent home of what happened! If they don't want to educate him, then DVUSD should let me choose a school and foot the bill! The school will be calling each day and suspending a 6 year old because he screamed, could not keep his hands to himself, threw a shoe! These people are to be trained to accomodate special needs, but they are not!

Village Meadows is an excellant school. I have had all three of my children and three of my grandchildren attend the school and they all received an excellant education. The teachers were all friendly and helpful if I ever needed any information or advice pertaining to my children. I enjoyed my Village experiance from the teachers, principal, and even the office staff.

Village Meadows has excellent teachers, strong leadership and challenging academic programs! The technology is outstanding...Smartboards, SmartTables, document cameras and parents get a technology report card every semester. The school has a full computerize piano lab, laptops for each student in 5th adn 6th grade, and an awesome science lab. This is a fabulous place for your child to attend school!
