Lake Pleasant Elementary has been an amazing school for our family. I have two children enrolled and have been very happy with the teachers and staff. We moved to our current home somewhat based on being zoned for this school. The neighborhood and community is very family friendly. The PTA puts on amazing event and supports the teachers/staff and students consistently. If I have had any issues, it was easy to contact the teachers or principal and they addressed my concerns. I would like to see smaller class sizes and I would also like to see more STEM curriculum for all grade levels but overall this is a great school and I would recommend.

Our child had an horrific experience at this school last year. We had been at LPE for a few years (with no issues) but last year our child became a completely different child (academics regressed, behavior regression, and became fearful of school). His behavior completely changed from anything we had ever experienced as parents. His downward spiral led to him being afraid and upset about going to school. Most disappointing is that our child is especially vulnerable and on an IEP. Our expectations of trusted adults fostering a nurturing and supportive environment for him to succeed were not met by members of his special education team. We are relieved that we made the choice to move him (and our family) to a different school five minutes away and he is now excelling. He’s back to his old-self and loves school. In fact, on days he has appointments, he wants to return to school. He completes his assignments and is progressing. While we are happy with this outcome our concern remains regarding his educational experience the previous year which remains an outlier to his previous and current years at school. We are deeply troubled that LPE is five minutes from his current school and the experiences are polarizing. Schools in the same community and of the same district should only differ in school colors.

What a huge disappointment. Issues with bullying, lack of discipline follow through and a very weak special education department for students on IEPs (lower grades). We are not impressed and plan to look at different options for our child

I have had my 4 kids in this school for years now and it has gone so downhill over the last 8 years. Everyone was so excited for the new principal, but honestly I think things have gotten even worse with him. The school is far too crowded and I think that contributes to some of the problem. There is a ton of bullying and fights in the older grades, and no one seems to care. Kids get in big trouble for minor things (like talking in class or goofing around in the lunch room), but no one gets in trouble for major things. They are focusing on the wrong things! There were threats in the beginning of the year made by a student, including saying they had a knife and were going to kill people, and parents were not notified and we had to hear it from our kids even though the police were called onto campus! As the year has gone on, the communication has not been there and as a parent I feel like they are trying to cover up the big stuff and not be fully transparent. But again, the little stuff is a huge deal. Kids get detention for throwing food in the lunch room (which they should, that is wrong and disrespectful), but they don’t get detention/ suspension for physical fights? It just makes no sense. Teachers are now focused on punishing everything minor rather than encouraging and rewarding good behavior, and then ignoring glaring terrible behavior. Really sad to see what once was such a great school going downhill.

I would like to highly recommend this school, the office staff is top knotch , the principal and vice principal has been so incredible. Our son had the best Kindergarten teacher Mrs . Nichols and his 1st grade teacher Mrs. Martin has been a God send . We have had many issues with our little guy he came from a bad environment and in the process of adopting . They have went above and beyond to help him succeed and support us though the process , he has been excelling emotionally and they have helped him in his learning issues . I can’t give enough compliments to this school . Even the principle told me he doesn’t give up , they are here to help . They are empathetic and kind , wonderful staff with hearts of Gold

Overall we love Lake Pleasant. We have been here for over 5 years. A majority of the teachers are involved and do care a great deal about students. The surrounding community is very involved in the school and my children love attending and seem to do well academically. Every school has their improvements that need to be made and I think with the large population growth, we will see those improvements in the next few years as parents get more involved.

Did I say awful. Can't believe Peoria has such an unfriendly school and principal ignores and is big part of problem.

My children have been at Lake Pleasant for a couple of years now and most recently I have seen a decrease in the administrations ability to resolve bullying. They seem to look the other way or blame the child being bullied. It is time for the admin to get a handle on the kids actually causing problems.

We moved here over a year ago and enrolled our child into Lake Pleasant in the middle of 2nd grade. He had a tough time at first, and ended up needing an IEP for what has been determined as autism/asperger's. Now in 3rd grade everything has been working a lot better for him, and the school has assigned social/communication therapy to help him with the other students and focus in class. My child has achieved straight A's academically, and received both Math and Reading awards. The therapists and psychologist seem to be truly invested, and really care to be involved in his week to week progress. I get personal emails from both his homeroom teacher and psychologist, from updates on progress/behavior to emails simply about what kind of pencil he prefers to help him write better in class. This school definitely cares, and in at least my situation, has helped my child a lot. He's much happier and doing much better in class, and I'm thankful for the support from both the IEP team and his homeroom teacher who has been super understanding and supportive.

Our children had to leave their old school and friends after 6 years and move to a new home and new school which is a very scary change, every single staff member at Lake pleasant has been welcoming, encouraging, caring, supportive, and has help to make the transition an easy one. They go beyond the "normal" teaching duties and the compassion and sense of community is awesome. It is a school we are proud to be a part of. Lake pleasant is a safe, creative, caring, supportive environment. All about the children and their families.

We have four children attending LPE, ranging from first grade all the way up through 8th grade, and we are very happy with the direction the new administration has taken the school. Mr. Green & Mrs. Bartels are also involved with the community - we see them at every event LPE students are participating in. Most of the teachers at LPE are incredible and very dedicated to their students. We appreciate that the teachers KNOW our children and work hard to see them succeed. The middle school students have the opportunity to participate in sports (boys & girls basketball, boys & girls softball, flag football, and girls volleyball), choir, band, News Crew, student council, NJHS, and Skills USA. There is also a free after school art club run by the art teacher. LPE has an active and hard working PTO as well. We wish the district would provide more of an organized "gifted" program at the school but overall we love being part of the Lake Pleasant community!

When your daughter gets upset when she has to miss a day of school because she is sick you know you have her enrolled in the right place! The teachers, administration and volunteers are all wonderful and truly love Lake Pleasant. I wouldn't want to send my kids anywhere else.

I am a parent of three children and we have been with this school since it opened. While there have been ups and downs, I wouldnt want my children to go anywhere else. I can say from personal experience and working closely with the teachers at this school that they have the childrens best interest at heart. I also can say that EVERY school and school district can make improvements. That is the world we live in. It can be said for any workplace. People are not perfect. I would invite any of you who think you can do it BETTER, to get an education degree and come join the team. As parents, let us not enable our children and come to their rescue when they get a bad grade or not getting along with thier teacher but instead lets help raise a generation that can think for themselves and learn how to handle life when it doesnt go thier way. Teachers have more to deal with than teaching math, reading, etc. so lets come beside them and lift them up to make our children better people instead of tearing them down for things out of thier control. Again, I wouldnt want my kids at any other school. I know the intentions of the staff at this school and that is why I can give them 4 stars

I would recommend that the school and it's employee's READ the "GREAT SCHOOLS" policies on Bullying, special needs, teacher Etiquette, IEP's, and respect of children & their parents. They really need to renew their educational degrees. So disappointed that Teachers are the ones that need the discipline, not just the bullies. GREAT SCHOOLS please help and clean up this school.

We built our home in this community because this school was in walking distance. We have six children total, 4 with IEPs. At first it was great but once the honeymoon was over and reality sits in its a complete mess. All the way up to this district. Every IEP meeting it was shared our children were hitting their goals and right on track. Once home our child didn't understand the homework given and it became obvious that our child was understanding what was taught. Even through he had great grades. We had numerous meetings, none of the listed accommodation where being used. When visiting during lunch the principal and staff constantly yelling at the children. They are constantly running out of paper and asking for donations. You go and voice your concerns about your children's learning or the lack of and district says we have valid concerns, they will get back to us about them. Never gets back to you. We since pulled all our children from this school. Had one retested. Our child went from one grade level behind to three! We are not the only family with these concerns about this school.

My second grader learned to hate school this year. Her teacher was uninspiring and "grumpy". She showed no compassion for her students. Didn't seem to like children much. I am glad she has moved on to somewhere else, but feel for the 3rd graders that will be entering her class next year. We look forward to a better year next year!
