This school is the worst. Teachers mean to my son and also sending him out for no reason like for asking a question. I know sounds off. Do not send your child here. Please.

I am a current student in junior high, the amount of bullying, cursing, drama, discrimination and harassment at this school that is somehow unheard of is ridiculous. The staff simply do not care about your child’s feelings, learning abilities and do not pay attention to their surroundings. Bullying is not addressed enough here, even I have experienced this enough times. Parents are simply told that their children are okay and when there has been physical fights in all grade levels above 2nd grade. I have often seen other students curse each other out in front of teachers and nothing is done about it. There is so much drama I could host a whole tv show with about 5 seasons worth of drama at this school. The racial discrimination here is worse than the actual bullying, multiple people have been called racial slurs even my best friends. Some of my own friends have been harassed by other students here too. Girls are constantly being sexualized for what they wear (this has happened to me and my friends) As someone who used to be a straight A student and top of their class at previous schools to being a mentally unstable student with slipping grades because of the lack of education by the teachers. In particular my 7th grade math teacher didn’t teach us the material so most of the grade failed tests and his class. Please do not send your children to this school

Parent here saying go else where. The principle change has made a drastic change in the over all school. Bullying is at an all time high. Classrooms are being ran by random parents willing to help without degrees or licenses because finding teachers to stay is impossible. Like others have said our principle back in 2018 and earlier was amazing she really cared about the kids and their learning process, took special education and helping the kids learn very seriously. She would even play with the kids on the playground. Kids would have assemblies honoring their good grades or attendance. Our kids favorite thing of all was seeing her at the gate greeting them and the weekly cheer squad bringing the team spirit with her to kick start the week getting the kids excited about the day. The principle that took over once she retired has ran the school to the ground. Learning isn’t being taken serious, it’s being ignored and getting proper help or programs put in place is impossible. There are no more assemblies, no more fun activities etc. unless it’s for money and donations it’s not a priority. Teachers greet kids these days at the gate by yelling at them for being too excited and needing to “calm down”. So sad to see it become a place where our children no longer want to be.

I’ve had two children go here k-4 and after so many trial and error I took my kids out. For 4th grade you’re dropping your kid off at day care to be on a computer all day and barely taught by a teacher as what my 4th grader described. For kindergarten, my child was bored out of her mind and hated going to school. Once I switched them to a different school they were actually taught by teachers and challenged in a better way. My kindergartner was actually taking spelling tests and excelling and excited about school. My 4th grader has a teacher who shows that they care and notifies me right away instead of waiting to address her issues with school work at parent teacher conferences.

I have a few things to say about this school. I loved the teachers here and the learning system is awesome and manageable (especially for me who has adhd and organization issues) but the kids…not so much. See, this school is in the middle of a neighborhood, and thanks to that everyone knows where each other lives, even the bullies (and there’s a worrying amount of them). And it’s not just the students, some of the teachers as well. I recall an incident in which a friend made a dark joke, and I added onto it, then some boys grouped up to tell on us to the principal while exaggerating everything. At the end of the day, my friend who made the joke and the kids who told on us got away while I was suspended only for the fact my family is from a minority group and is “more prone” to incidents. Later, I would have sharp objects thrown at my face from other students, I have been hurt a numerous amount of times in areas on my head along with being called a multitude of slurs. As if that wasn’t bad enough, I soon learned that some of the kids were doing drugs and illegal activity. It made me both extremely surprised and it also made me wonder: who would they suspend, the person who SAID something bad, or the ones who are physically hurting each other and doing things that could get them sent to Juvie. On top of that, the bullying here can be horrible, Kids I know personally have even harmed themselves over the events taking place here, in fact even the counselor and the system for those with emotional issues is comparable to a prison. While the teachers are super nice and everything, they aren’t getting paid enough for this. And it’s too late now, everything they try to use to take Control explodes in front of their faces. So if you want your kid to stay innocent, try somewhere else

I bought a home in this neighborhood and only sent my son to this school for a month. This schools is so chaotic. The "devious licks" were so bad at this school when my son started there that I would have to pick him up down the street so he could make it home in time to use the bathrooms. He didn't want to use the restroom then get blamed for breaking something in it, so he would hold it all day. The teachers hand out "infractions" like candy and offered no positive reinforcement to a new student. This was the worst school I have ever encountered.

I have two children that currently attend this school. The school says they have zero tolerance about bullying but when I have brought things to their attention they will have a meeting with kids involved and just make them apologize to each other and then the bullying keeps happening. It’s so bad my daughter begs me not to tell the school anymore she says the kids will keep bullying her. The disrespect some of these kids have towards adults is unbelievable. Outside of the coffee shop they act like a bunch of wild crazies. Cussing and pushing and throwing other kids phones. They are so entitled and act as if they don’t have any consequences. My daughter wakes up and I have to force her to go. Teachers don’t return emails in a timely matter or they just turn them over to the assistant principal and the assistant principal doesn’t return calls. The kids grades are always low, I continue to ask what we can do but they say they’re fine. If they are fine then why are their grades low? Trying to move them to a new school as we speak.

Moving my son to start 3rd grade in a new state, new school, totally new environment is hard under the best of circumstances. Doing it during a pandemic almost seemed insurmountable. I cannot say enough positive things about West Wing. From the helpful front desk as we were getting him admitted, to the incredible teachers who were brave and had a strong desire to get back to teaching in-person. Our son has made new, great friends, and they've welcomed him with open arms. His teacher is tough but very fair, and is preparing him for the next grade, and I can tell he'll be ready. Also, West Wing is this majestic little town with the school tucked in between two mountains. It's pretty, and just amazing. I'd give more than 5 stars if I could.

West Wing School has an excellent team of educators and administrators. We moved out here in Arizona three years ago and started looking for a school for our boys.My son had an existing IEP and we were looking for schools that can offer specialized education plan for kids with learning differences. Our experience at west wing school was awesome. IEP transition at went flawless. West wing educators are highly skilled in their respective subject matter and had excellent communication with us.This year , my son exited the IEP and this wouldn’t be possible without the hard work of principal and educators of west wing school. I would recommend this school to parents and especially for the kids with learning differences. Thanks

Our son was an early entry into Kindergarten during the 2015-2016 school year. We were very nervous about where to send him, as this was our first child being sent to school and we were new to the community in general. I will say from a community perspective, enrolling our son at West Wing was 100% the right choice. We have met so many great neighbors and been able to feel at home in our new community. The principal, Dr. Price-Barry, answered all of my nervous emails and invited me in for a tour even before school opened their doors for the school year. Because our son was not 5 on Aug 31st, we had to have him tested for early entry and it was a last minute decision on whether to send him early or not. I applaud Dr. Price-Barry's sincerity and flexibility to accommodate us. Over the course of the year our son has excelled and has been outperforming the set metrics for the curriculum. The staff, from his teacher all the way to the principal, recognized this and called it to our attention. Furthermore, they have built in specific goals and criteria for his level of reading and math skills. A HUGE kudos to the team, especially Ms. VandeBerg. The school is also very present and active in the community which I appreciate as a resident. It is great to see what this school is doing for past, present and future students within their reach. I look forward to sending our other child there in a few years when he is of age for kindergarten and watching the two of them do great things at West Wing.

Choosing the right school for our daughter was very important. We interviewed several schools in the area including charter and private schools. West Wing was a perfect fit for us. They offered a well rounded curriculum and everyone we talked to was very informative, caring, and had a smile on their face. It was an environment that we trusted and felt very comfortable leaving our daughter at everyday! Every teacher we had was amazing and provided the highest level of education. The Second Grade teachers have a special place in our heart. They worked so well together and their passion for teaching was truly incredible. Having a special group of people working here, has made West Wing a GREAT school!

My oldest daughter was in the first kindergarten class when West Wing opened and just promoted from 8th grade this past May. Her younger sister and my nieces all go there as well and we couldn't be happier. Dr Price-Barry and all of the staff are awesome and are wonderful partners to help our girls learn and grow into wonderful young ladies. We are so blessed to have this school in our neighborhood and will forever be thankful for the time and love the staff has given our girls. They have helped prepare my daughter to be successful in High School and I am confident they will do the same for her sister.

West Wing has been a great school for all four of our children. From the front office staff to the teachers and administration, everyone is kind and welcoming. Our children have varying abilities, ranging from gifted to needing the assistance of the reading specialist. There are some absolutely amazing, top-notch teachers at this school. As an educator in a neighboring district, I appreciate that the principal holds her staff to high standards as it ultimately benefits students. She makes herself available to parents and it’s my belief that her special-education background allows her to connect with all students on campus. This school has a great choir, band, and art program. My only wish is the sports program started before seventh grade, but that’s DVUSD, not West Wing. Overall, we’re very happy with this school and feel our children are receiving a great education that’s preparing them for high school.

We have been a part of the West Wing community for the past 7 years. We have been pleased with our son's amazing outcomes not only academically but in his behavior and maturity. We appreciate the communication from the teachers and administration. We are pleased with the gifted program that allows our son to be challenged in his academics. The warmth shown to our son as he has worked hard on his behaviors has been appreciated. We are thankful to the schools offering of specials such as music, art and PE. These aspects of the school have made our sons education so much more well rounded as a student.

This school unfortunately does not meet the mark with me, and I am regretful that I have to leave one star at all. My son has been attending since we moved in the neighborhood in the beginning of his 7th grade year and the kids that attend with him are; for lack of a better term, complete and utter bullies. If there is an altercation they sign agreements not to talk to the other student, which is a ridiculous punishment for a child. Most of these kids are "privileged" and have zero regard for others and are pretty vicious to any they feel might be "beneath" them. Sadly, because the boundaries are so narrow and most kids walk to and from, all of the kids know where everyone lives. We have fallen victim to many instances of TP'ing as well as our breaker box being tampered with. My son is made fun of for being Jewish and the VP's "solution" to that is to have "sensitivity talks" with the bigots that target him. The school claims to have no tolerance for bullying but I'm unsure what the metrics of those standards are. It happens frequently to a lot of students and it's above the norm in comparison to any other school my son has attended.

To parents looking for a well rounded school West Wing elementary is a great choice. The staff is supportive in meeting the needs of the kidos, individualized if necessary, safety in ensured at the front office no one is allowed beyond that point. Resources are available for children who may need more academic services. Each staff member that I have encountered enjoy assisting and educating the students to help them reach his or her full potential!

My kids have gone to West Wing for their entire schooling. I am so impressed with the education they have received. Their needs have been met both academically and socially. I couldn't be happier with West Wing and everyone who works there.
