PLEASE Send your child elsewhere at ALL COSTS!!! Our child has been attending here for almost 2 years now. Our child has been attacked by other students and bullied most of this time and the staff does NOT watch the children. The staff are baby sitters and do not put in much effort. They do not assign homework or reading or help your child when they are struggling, only give them easier worksheets. The staff is not qualified to teach grade level material as they do not know it themselves. They try to bride your child with candy and have gym class as much as possible so not to teach. In the two years here, our son has barely gone up 1 grade level academically. I cannot describe the words for how much of a struggle the last two years have been because the staff/cofounder etc. do not take their job seriously and put the blame anywhere but themselves. They say they are working on a solution but nothing ever comes of it.

i am a student at this school(south campus). This school isn't terrible but its not for kids with trauma like they described. This school does not approve of making friends or giving each other contact info. Students are constantly cussing out staff for unreasonable rules such as no Bluetooth headphones (because they can connect to our phones) even though they let us listen to music on our Chromebooks. When a student is frustrated or needs to be left alone staff continue to bug them and get up close to there face. When a student needs to take a break they send them to a place called RIS where little kids scream and fight both each other and staff. Staff will punish us for talking about stuff from outside of school. This school has a process of metal detecting students before we enter school but a kid in my class accidentally brought in a switchblade that he left in his pocket but staff didnt catch it because they dont take their job seriously so overall this school is not a good fit for any student.

My son has high functioning Autism. When his home school was unable to meet his needs due to their deficiencies, my son ended up here. During challenging times the met his needs and helped him excel. Utmost respect for the school and its staff.

I am writing a detailed review because I and other families were very much misled as to what South Campus offers and how it is run. The school provides containment for students who cannot be in regular classrooms, and it gives them easy credits toward graduation. But I would avoid South Campus if you are at all interested in having your child educated, and particularly if your child wants to be educated. The individual therapy can be good, but the groups are not taken seriously and the academics are dismal except for math. There is no homework. There are no extracurriculars. There is no socializing allowed and no opportunity to form healthy relationships. Most of the so-called classes listed in the school directory are not actual classes. If a class is termed an “independent study” (which they won’t necessarily tell you in advance) the student will be put in a corner with a stack of worksheets while another class is going on and may or may not be monitored. This is true even with students with ADHD and other learning issues. Any mistakes or oversights on the school’s part will be blamed on the student, even when all evidence is to the contrary. A child who is not a behavior problem will be ignored. There is no effort to work with learning disorders or to maximize potential, rather, your child will be given high school credit for doing what is assuredly not high school work. While the school states that its classes meet the state standards, even a cursory review of those standards vis a vis what is taught in the classrooms makes that claim very dubious. Two-way communication with parents with regard to schoolwork is not welcomed to the extent that there are no parent-teacher conferences and there is no response when parents attempt to raise serious issues or in any way be partners in education. The successes the school touts were successful because the bulk of their education was gotten elsewhere. The school can get away with this because of the population it serves and the dearth of alternatives. If you are considering this school for your child, verify anything you are told with your own eyes. Ask which classes are taught as classroom classes. Ask to see the curriculum. Ask to see a class, particularly an English class. Ask to speak to other parents. Listen carefully to the answers, what is not said as much as what is said.
