Teachers do their best under micromanagement of the principal. Principal only knows black and white. She runs the school with a safety first approach which is great but comes with extreme punishments for such young kids. Children struggling with anxiety or depression have been known to be isolated - social worker available to student but information shared is not private or protected. She does not know how to talk with kids or parents and communication is terrible. She should be at a high school not elementary school. I would not recommend this school until Ms. Reynolds is replaced.

I am not impressed. Understaffed and overworked of the staff they do have! I have two children at this school and both are having very different experiences one mostly positive and the other mostly negative. The teacher will make or break your daily experience. The first semester is coming to an end and overall, I am seeing less teaching and so many assessments. The kids have multiple tests and quizzes weekly. There is so much focus on test scores and prescribed curriculum that I feel the teachers don't have the space to slow down when needed and help the kids learn. The fun in learning has been stripped out of these classrooms. The administration is overworked. They don't return emails, phone calls and getting a meeting with them is not timely. If you have special needs, IEP or a 504, they do not have the staff to support this. Look elsewhere if you have that option! Discipline at this school for poor classroom behavior (talking) is taking recess away. Very old school thinking. When my kid was being bullied the administration acted quickly to have a meeting but actions out of that meeting were very slow to act on. Additionally the bullying behavior on the bus was deemed "out of their control". I feel the positive reviews on this school are of years past or from people who have never experienced other schools so they don't know what they are not receiving.

Extremely unprofessional administration. I had been trying to get in contact with the principal about a position that was posted I had applied for and was extremely interested in. I would get no response with emails and only was able to speak with the secretary. They extended me an invitation for an interview after I called them only for it to be scheduled during new student registration and had to be told id be contacted the same day to have it rescheduled. Three days went by and I sent an email with no reply. Two days went by between then, I called and got the answer machine and I left a message. 5 days went by, I called again and answering machine. 3 days, call answer machine and left message. Almost two weeks and I get an email saying the position had been filled through their automatic reply system. At no point was I able to talk to the principal or have the interview. It's one thing to say you're not interested in an applicant. But it's extremely unprofessional to offer and interview, have to reschedule it and not reschedule the interview and fill the position after this applicant has tried to contact about the position. This is a reward school when it comes to academics but not administration it seems.I guess I dodged a bullet because if this is how you handle applicants you say you will reschedule I don't want to know how you are treating your actual teachers who are there now

OES is the most amazing school in the county! The teachers and staff members truly care about the students. They work hard to make learning fun and meaningful!

My son currently goes to Ooltewah Elementary. I'm not at all impressed. The teacher he has doesn't teach all they do is evaluate the students. Better off paying for private school.

Love it! I went there in 2008-2009 my 5th grade year. Because i was bullied at Bess T Sheperd. My sister attended it for 4 years and now is a 6th grader at Ooltewah Middle. Only my brother is there now. He is a 3rd grade and a straight A student. My mother used to work in the cafeteria here, she quit the job during the first month of the 2012-2013 school year. She loved it.

We love OES. Both of our daughters are currently attending, we cannot ask for more from anyone, including other parents. It is a great school for the spirit and the academics.
