Norris Elementary is an amazing school. I have 3 kids there ( 5th, 3rd, and K ), and I could not be more pleased with the staff. The teachers have gone out of their way to help my kids adjust ( they are coming from a homeschool setting). They do an awesome job at communicating, so that I know what each child is up to each day. The principal is amazing as well. She is great at her job, and truly cares for each student. They also offer after school clubs, for added socialization and experience. They have made my kids first 3 months at school beyond amazing, and I wouldn't send my kids anywhere else. I would definitely recommend this school.

We moved our kids to NES last year and we could not be happier. The teachers are very professional and motivated to teach our children. The principal is very passionate about her job and goes above and beyond to make NES the best it can possibly be. As a parent I feel very welcome in the school and know I can drop by or call anytime if I have a concern. So if you want your child to become a better student and be taught respect and manners..., this is the place!

The staff at this school is the most highly unprofessional group ever. They tell you one thing, but then say another. When you go to pick your child up early, they find all kind of excuses as to why they don't know where your child is, blah, blah, blah. It took over a week to receive a letter from the office from an incident that occurred with my child with no previous notice or point of contact made in between that time. What really gets on my nerves is the fact that some of the teachers can be degrading and talk so negatively about your child while your child is right there listening to what they're saying. My daughter is still upset about the whole thing. I'm not keeping my child at this school. There's a reason why this is a lower tier school. Do your research and talk to other parents that have issues and you'll see what the school really is.

My son attended NES for five years. It was a school of extremes. There were some fantastic teachers, and some that shouldn't be anywhere around kids. Jess Ann Cole seems to care about the children but flip-flops when it comes to admitting that some of her teachers just aren't proficient at teaching. One teacher in particular for fourth and fifth grades was nothing but a punitive curmudgeon. Students were routinely refused recess because of schoolwork errors. Find some way to motivate your charges instead of denying them fresh air and the sun. During my sons last year there he may have been allowed out for recess once a week, and this went for the rest of his classmates. He is now enrolled in Oak Ridge schools where he is flourishing under motivated teachers that want to enhance and bring forward young minds rather than whipping them with memorization and heavy-handed discipline. If I had realized what a poor overall job was being done, I would have pulled him out of NES much earlier.

As a Grandparent I had lunch with my grandson today and was very disappointed in how unfriendly the atmosphere is in the lunchroom. The kids are separated from friends and interaction between students is discouraged and lunch staff is very stiff and non helpful. All the kids seemed unhappy. Wasn't that way last year. New principal ?????

My son attended this school as the only African american student for four months. The school does not favor diversity! Some of the teachers there are great. The reading programs are outstanding. However I am sending my son to a private school because he is made to feel uncomfortable there. He began the year without any problems however, there are many issues that has come about currently and everyday I hear a new story from my son, other students as well as adults. I crindge at the thought of my fon completing the school year there!
