I was a teacher in a special education classroom. It was the worst teaching experience of my life. The students were warehoused with all the bullies and students with aggressive behaviors in one room. When I tried to utilize administration intervention I was told it was my responsibility and do not refer students to the office. There is no reasonable system of discipline. No detention system. No meaningful positive reinforcements of good behavior. Teachers are on their own and Admin does not support the classroom. I now am in a new school which has shown me how it can be done. They have a difficult population and little parent involvement but they could do better.

Spare yourself and your child from this horrible school. I have never experienced such blatant disregard for policies or even human decency in my life. From teachers, administration and as far as school SRO no one takes accountability or holds the children accountable for rules or policies. There's a reason this school is ranked below average. Do you want below average for your kids?

The absolute worst experience any parent would have to deal with having an inept administration not take bullying seriously! This school is not a safe learning experience! After my daughter was bullied multiple times by the same group of girls and one of the girls breaking her hand twice, the principal victim blamed my daughter! It absolutely shocked and sickened me to my stomach! My advice to anyone is do not enroll your child at this school because it isn’t safe! If you ask if there are fights at this school, they will lie and tell you there are hardly any fights! There are fights quite often there in the bathrooms as well as other places in the school, they just try to hide it and cover it up!

school is horrible. I moved my son here from Sacramento hoping that he would do great. He went from a C average to all Fs. He was suspended mutiple times due to being bullied and him getting upset. This school staff would lose my son and call me to come find him on campus. Also, sent him to mental hospital without notifying his parents then told me they didnt know where he had gone. And couldnt explain his whereabouts. They let other kids bully him who were white but refused to disapline the children. This school is full of gangs and the staff refuse to look at evidence when presented to them. I spent everyday going back and forth to the school mulitple times to get my son on track because the school doesnt have sufficent supervision for the children. I have heard from several of the students about sexual activity that happens on campus in the garden area where students can go because they know there are not enough supervision on campus. I have had students try to sell my son drugs on campus and seen students vaping in front of the school. I tried several times to remove my student from the school only to be told they would try harder. Finally i just put him in homestudies to avoid the stress of having to school my son at the school because the teachers do not emply any type of discipline!!!!

My daughter currently attends Silverado Middle School and my son went there previously. We could not be more happy with our experience. Both kids have had wonderful caring teachers, all of whom have taken the time to work on their individual academic issues and to communicate promptly and professionally with me. In addition, the administrators and counselors respond quickly and effectively on bullying issues (and other problems). SIlverado's counseling staff is adept at getting to the heart of conflicts between students and staying on top of volatile situations. This we have experienced personally! The classrooms are cheerful and the campus has scenic views that rival the best resorts in the Napa Valley. It is a lovely spot to drop off your children on school days!I should also point out that my children arrived at Silverado with academic weaknesses that were the result of a cloistered and ineffectual private school (Sunrise Montessori) they had attended through grade school. Silverado was well aware of previous issues with Sunrise students and knew exactly how to bring them up to the same level as the other children. Within a month or two, my kids were caught up! A huge relief! They have been thriving academically since.

My daughters school is a very academically rounded. She is learning more then I ever could of imagined or hoped for and the knew use of computers for classes is a brilliant way of teaching and learning. The teachers are all very intent on making you aware of your child's progress or lack of. Awesome school would recommend to anyone who has a child in middle school.

I was a student here a little bit over a decade ago. I am sure things have changed I hope. When Mr. Wright was in charge there was a lot of bullying. A young girl took her life as well during the years I attended. I was bullied so bad and without any help or resources besides being put into In House Suspension to be away from the general population. It was a nightmare and to today I still have a lot of issues getting over being bullied and teased so bad. I have a poor body image, bad self esteem, and I still bitterly hate the kids who did this to me. I will never forget such a bad experience and I hope it has changed for the better. But just in case your student is being bullied or you are a student being bullied at SMS know you are not alone in this world.
