School is overcrowded, principal and staff don’t care or bother to address bullying. Some teachers discriminate and when addressed by parent, the student is negatively impacted. The principal does not address concerns related to bullying but only replies with generic email response saying “sorry you had a bad experience”. This school has kids that vape apparently and many things that teachers don’t care to get involved in. This school is on track to be worse than Bell Mountain Middle School. There were 5 fifth grade classes each having 29-30 students in class. So if your child doesn’t understand, oh well, teachers don’t have time to repeat themselves. They expect parent to teach their kids how to do the homework, yet when we do, the kids don’t do well because that’s not how they are shown in school so tests are more difficult. On top of that, I happened to be dropping lunch off for my child and staff was frantically running around looking for missing student.

This school communicates very well with parents. I believe some of these older reviews need to be reassessed. The staff is friendly and loving towards my children. The school always has drills to ensure the safety of our children and make sure they are prepared if ever in a time of crisis. Both my children are doing well academically.

Not good, they just don't seem to care

So far not so good. I'm disappointed with the staff both his teacher and front office staff. Both the nurses at the school have been the only two people who have been helpful and welcoming. Will update again half way through the year.

This school, and the district for that matter, has an unrealistic world-view. I am consistently faced with poor communication tactics/strategies and borderline ludicrous expectations regarding parent availability to attend events or receive critical information (no consideration for working parents!). It is very concerning that parents are told they will receive information in the mail and then are told to come and pick up said information within a very small window of time - with no appropriate alternative! Not to mention the fact that the teachers post school supply demands in direct violation of California state law!!

The new principal, Mrs. Vilas is the best thing to happen to Southshore. She truly cares about the students and consistently goes above and beyond for parents, students, teachers and the community. She is extremely fair when disciplining students. My three children love her and report enjoying coming to school every day because of her.

We really miss Mrs. Kane. She set such high standards for how the children are welcomed, respected, and taught. The new Principal, Mrs. Villas, could not be more opposite. She is so rude to the children. She tells them that she has children and knows when they are lying, and then calls the students liars and tells them to get over it. She picks sides when children go into the office and bullies up against the one that she "believes" is the liar instead of teaching both children how to handle things differently. I have only had wonderful experiences since our children have been at this school for 5 years, but this year is hell because of how unprofessional and unloving she is. Her military style is not a fit for this school.

This is our 1st year here. My son is a kindergartener in Miss Drapiza's class & we love her. I'm thankfully able to help in the class once a week & see the focus & attention she gives these kids even with such a large class size. The staff is very friendly & helpful & the school is kept up very well both outside & inside! My daughter will start there next year with a different teacher, but I'm sure we'll have a great experience all over again!

The school administration is sorely lacking these days. While there are still a few good teachers who care about their students, most have seemed to give up in the past few years of our children's attendance. Now it appears that the district is solely focused in stuffing as many new kids (and more money) into their pockets with the addition of more classrooms and decreasing the outdoor play area.

I am impressed with the safety of the school. I like my son's teacher Ms Drapiza even though she is new to the district she try' s very hard to continue to teach all the new common core material they throw at her throughout the year. His teacher shows she really cares about the students and how they feel. I wish there was more parent volunteers in his class though cause of large class sizes I can see the difference with his previous school which at least one parent in class everyday which helped the kids focus on what they were learning more and when certain kids had struggles between the teacher and volunteers those kids got the help they needed to exceed. I think there is less volunteers due to there volunteer policy but I think if parents want there kids to be more successful they will go through those steps to volunteer. But overall good school at this point our first year in this district.

Overall this is a good school with a caring principal and some pretty good teachers. The only problem is with the attendance clerk. He has been rude to me and my child on multiple occasions and he is really uncaring and unprofessional.

We love this school. Ms. Kane is the sunshine that helps the teachers and students smile. Glenn is so friendly and helpful to the students that come to the office. Never a raised voice. Only cheerfulness and help for the children. At our previous school the teachers walked with the heads down--not making eye contact with students, parents, or eachother...The principal is what sets the energy. To hear Ms. Kane on the loud speaker telling the children how proud she is of them and to have a great weekend, gives me tears. Our son is so happy and thriving. Our past school was a "Distinguised School"; yet nothing to be proud about. The students were yelled at, the principals were always changing due to ethics and forced retirements. It was a "detention center"--not an environment for children to thrive. We are so happy and proud of our parenting decision to move from N. Ca. There is not so much homework because the teachers at this school have more classroom time with students than other schools. That allows more classroom time. Wonderful concept. Our son spends more time with the teacher instead of being rotated through 5 different classrooms & instructors each day.

I am not surprised to see that the school's ratings have dropped a point in the last year. Frankly, I am not impressed with the overall academics and character expectations available to students. Homework is a joke. A few of my children's teachers over the years have appeared bothered and having little patience with their students at their jobs. The principal, though nice, does little more than make an appearance now and then. Other than that, she lacks the same presence the previous principal had, which is evident in the quality of staff. There seems to be a lack of consideration with regards to student security and safety when adults enter the campus, and no continuity with procedures implemented. Administration lacks organization, and there is a different person working the front desk nearly every time I've been there. None of these people seem to communicate with each other, or the rest of the staff.

My child had Mrs. Harvey for Kindergarten last year and we believe she is an exceptional teacher. She is very transparent and promotes open, honest communication with the parents with only the best interest of the child at heart. My experience with the front office staff however has been extremely dissatisfying. Welcome reception lacks tactful professionalism and treats parents poorly.

Have a daughter in K, and Miss Fish is excellent. My daughter is learning so much.

the receptionist is very mean, puts up an attitude every time she talks to you. She acts high and mighty.

This school is great. The teachers are welcoming to parents and they stay in constant communication with the parents. My son is in the 5th grade and had a difficult transition from 4th. The requirements are harder because they now are being required to keep their homework assignments until the end of the week after they have allready been checked off each day. The teacher allowes students to turn the work in late if it takes them longer and she sends out progress reports every 2 weeks. There is no excuse why a child fails if the parent is being made aware of the problems. My child wasnt doing his work. He was able to bring his grades up to B's and C's and now the second trimester she allowes me to sit in his classroom. he now gets straight A's and even 2 A+ in math and science
