I am a parent of soon to be 7th grade student at Zion. This was our first year here and I wish I would have been here when my child started kindergarten. The school and church care about each child. One word to describe Zion AWESOME. My child is looking forward to returning to school this fall and so am I .

As an alumn, I can verify that this school is wonderful in its training of young adults. Now that I am in high school, I am taking all honors classes. Zion prepared me extremely well. I have not met any Zion graduate who was not fully prepared after graduating. This school is amazing.

My son graduated from Zion Lutheran in Matteson in 2009. He just graduated from Illinois Lutheran High School and is headed to college! He really thrived at Zion. My daughter is now a 7th grader at Zion Lutheran and loves it. Here IOWA test scores this year were phenomenal. She tested at a high school sophomore level in several subjects and almost all scores were well about average. My 2-year-old will definitely attend Zion for preschool in a couple years. This school is wonderful!

So far Zion has been such a blessing for my son. The staff, although spread thin has been caring, patient, loving, and supportive. My son transferred to Zion during the middle of the year, his teachers has been so helpful with getting him back on track.I am looking forward to sending two more of my children this upcoming year.I love the fact that Christ is truly the center of this school, the evidence shows up in the character and dedication of the staff.

Zion Lutheran School serves children in the Matteson and surrounding communities. They have served for 145 years in securing each child's confidence towards their future in the trials and tribulations of high school and college. I had three sons graduate from Zion. It prepared them to do well in high school and college, socially and academically.

My daughter has been a student at Zion Lutheran School since preschool. She is now in the 6th grade. The school has seen many challenges throughout the last 8 years but they have met those challenges head on. I am proud to be a parent of a student at Zion Lutheran School. They have wonderfully small class sizes which give each student a hand up in education. I love the family atmosphere and the teachers are all wonderful. Zion is a great place to get an education. Teachers cooperate and work with the parents to ensure that each child is getting the best education that he/she can.

I have two children, who are African Amerian, that attend Zion. They have been there since preschool. We love Zion. We get to know the staff personally. They take an extra interest in all of the kids. Not all things are perfect but then what really is. We enjoy it. The kids get a great education as well as a great understanding of the Bible and it's teachings. Zion has a "family" feel to it. The board is always willing to listen to suggestions and and work with parents to fill the needs of their children. Looking forward to sending my third child there.

This is my child's first year attending Zion. My child looks forward to going to school to sing, learn and interact with other children . I'm learning that Zion is a great place for your child to grow. The staff is professional and always willing to help.

I am a parent who has been attending Zion since my child was in pre-school and my child is now in 6th grade. I currently have two children that attend Zion and they both LOVE Zion. I love the staff and the family atmosphere the school provides. I love that my child is getting a christian education and benefits from the one one personal interaction with the staff. It takes a village to raise a child and pour in poitive things. What may be great for one person may not be great for another but I LOVE Zion and they are doing an EXCELLENT job in the economy that we are living in. I would and do tell all my friends about Zion and if I had to do it all over again, I would still send my children to Zion.

I am a concerned parent that has given my child to a school that is not given there best to all students. In a christian based school I expect more and I'm paying for More. This year was a struggle for me when I found out there would only be three third grade students and no fourth grade student but I gave it a try. This school has given me to much pain and aggravation. Then I just feel my child is not getting the education he needs by spending half the day with first and second graders doing carpet time and story telling. Third grade school should be working and learning this is a difficult year and a milestone year for student. It's a major testing year. If a teacher tell me that they feel bad for my child because he not picking up on a new subject I have a problem with that when is only three other students. Why feel sorry why not help the child. The principal is teaching in classroom and not doing his duties. There are so many issue this school year. Every time a child does something the disciplines are detentions. What is this a jail or school. These are children and they will make mistakes. Misbehavior is a part of life and should not be treated this harshly. BAD!!

I gain nothing from the review that I'm going to give this school, but to only save other parents from the pain and aggrevation that my family endured for the one and only semester my child went here. The principal is overworked, and impatient with his role as a teacher/ principal. They are unable or unwilling to deal with the needs of the african american child. I have witnessed the impatient and petty way in which they deal with the mostly black population of students that they serve.Disciplines given for average kid mischief/ misbehaviors are harsh and extreme to the point of injustice. Do Not send your african american child here...try another school!!

This could be a great school. The teachers do not engage in a partnership with the parents, the principal appears to be exhausted and overwhelmed by his responsibilities. The computer "lab" is a closet, the Spanish "class" is minimal, there are two band members and the overall test scores are horrible. For a school that's been open over 100 years, you'd expect more. I predict this school will be closed within a year.

Zion is a fantastic school! Lots of improvements have been made in the past few years, including Spanish classes and PTL. Teachers pay attention to every child's needs- you don't see this everywhere. As long as a parent is willing to cooperate with the staff and enforce school rules with their children, they will have an excellent educational experience, and be well-prepared for high school.

I have nothing to gain by bad mouthing Zion to start. But, sending my children to Zion was like sending them to a second world school. All the classes are double grades so the children in both grades only get a half days worthg of instruction. The main focus of the school is in general ..REVENUES! The enrollment is down so low that i cant understand how it stays open. All the CORE families have left and gone to other Lutheran schools in the area. For my money id go elsewhere.
