There are good teachers and good people at VES. You will certainly find a school where your child is known and cared for. The resources (athletic and artistic) are strong for a school of its size. Administrative changes in the past few years have, sadly, weakened the school; there seem to be a lot more people making decisions, but more problems with communication and effectiveness of how the school runs. The main design of the academic program seems to be to impress through marketing and to get good college acceptances- a lot of what exists among students is very surface-level thinking. It's a nice school in many ways, but no better than the public options in most urban or suburban areas in Virginia or North Carolina.

The overall boarding school experience and curriculum at VES better prepared me for college. VES today still embodies an encouraging environment for its students to strive to be the best they can be. It just keeps getting better!

I'm a senior at VES and it has changed my life, and more importantly, has changed me. The teachers truly care about the students, and I feel so lucky to be part of a community where everyone knows me and wants me to be the best that I can be. I am not ready to say goodbye in May!!

A lot has changed since I attended, but there is one constant, the size of the classes. It was easy to get the personal attention, if needed. You were expected to participate in all class discussions. This shy freshman turned into a vibrant senior. The rigors of the academics prepared me perfectly for the next step to college. Do yourself a favor and look into VES and all it has to offer. You will be pleased.

We have two sons who are attending VES. They are very happy with their decision to attend. They have found many activities to become involved with and have made great friends. It has been a very, positive experience.

VES is a wonderful boarding school, what a difference it made in my sons life, I can hardly believe he the same child. Taking my son out of the public school system was the best decision I ever made. Of course it was difficult sending him so far away from home. The teachers are caring and wonderful. The administrative staffs are great. His grades have improved and he now has a true passion for learning. Unbelievable! When I picked him up for the summer break, he said Mom I cannot wait for school to reopen! VES is truly a remarkable school its challenges the minds of its students.

Our son and daughter both attended VES and had wonderful experiences! Now several years out of school, they both refer to it as a positive, life-shaping experience. It was worth every penny!
