My children loved James River Day School and learned so much about how to study, how to organize their work, and how to manage their time. The school is not equipped to serve students with significant learning challenges, but for students like mine who needed a bit of help and never would have received services in a public school setting, it is perfect. James River's faculty and staff also do so much to model and teach good character and behavior. Children leaving a classroom will spontaneously thank their teacher for the day's class. I've never seen that anywhere else. When a child slips up, teachers handle it in a way that supports the child's growth as a person and avoids humiliating that student. The school has a very happy, family atmosphere where children can be children for as long as possible. That's the advantage of a K-8 school.

This school is fantastic! My children have been challenged and nurtured. They love going to school. They love learning. Their incredible teachers engage them in real learning, not just how to pass a state test. My older children who have gone on to high school have excelled and were far more prepared than their peers from other schools. The school community is kind and supportive. I couldn't ask for more.

My children love going to school every day! Excellent teachers, head of school, and staff. We couldn't be any happier with JRDS!

I have two children at JRDS, and although they are very different types of learners, they are both challenged academically. Small classes, lots of personal attention and incredibly gifted teachers make each day a great experience. The Head of School and Assistant have a strong vision for the school - to turn out scholars, leaders and citizens - and it is echoed is everything we do at school. I encourage other parents to take a look at JRDS - its a gem!
