Valley View Elementary is more than just a school; it's a hidden gem in the Hollywood Hills community. As the smallest school in LAUSD, it offers a more personalized and nurturing environment that's hard to come by in a large city. The teachers here are truly exceptional, dedicated to understanding each student's unique needs and providing tailored instruction. As a parent of two boys attending Valley View, I've been incredibly impressed. My older son, in first grade, is challenged academically and socially, while my younger son, in TK, is thriving under the care of his wonderful teacher. Even the little details, like teachers personally opening car doors and walking students to their classrooms, show the level of care and attention that Valley View provides. The school also has a strong and engaged PTA. From music and garden programs to art, library, drama, and STEAM initiatives, the PTA consistently brings value to the school community. The 5th graders also often help with the younger kids, walking them to their classrooms, and reading them books through the "Book Buddies" program. The principal's dedication to connecting with parents and students is truly commendable. She knows every child by name and strives to uphold the highest standards of academic excellence and inclusion. I would highly recommend Valley View to any prospective families looking for a school that offers a small-town family feel in a big city.

Our family feels lucky to be part of the small community that is Valley View Elementary. Our kids have friends in every grade, much like all of their peers at the school. The students all know each other, and the teachers and staff know all of the students. It truly offers a community feel.We feel very supported by the teachers, the staff and the principal. We would recommend this school to any family looking for a smaller community environment within LAUSD.

Three of my children attend this elementary school and have been attending for the last 3 years. My youngest has ADHD and has significant elopement behavior. We have an IEP in place and have been working to make the school environment more tolerable for him. Throughout this experience, the principle at this school has absolutely gone above and beyond what is required by LAUSD to keep my child safe and happy. She provides him with a safe space to take breaks, personally chaperones him to make sure he gets to the places he needs to safely, and has ensured that he knows he can talk to her about anything. She has made sure to make him feel safe and supported and has done a phenomenal job communicating with me about his progress. In addition, she has brought on excellent long term and short term staff, has raised our schools test scores, and is constantly working to bring after school enrichment to the campus. This is a principle who deeply cares about her students and staff. We have delayed moving on several occasions just to stay within this school zone. My children all absolutely adore their teachers and have asked to stay on at the school every year. 10/10 recommend this LAUSD school for all prospective families.

Valley View is a wonderful school for families looking for high quality instruction in a safe environment for all students. The principal, teachers, support staff, and families work together as a cohesive unit to support the students' education. There are so many activities each year that support the social-emotional needs and include the families as partners. The best thing about Valley View is the small community that truly supports each other. I would recommend Valley View to any family looking for a fantastic school with terrific people!

This school has a great teacher to student ratio! Small school, small classes, and my child is happy and thriving. The PTA has a lot of committed parents wanting the best for all of these kids.

Valley View is a wonderful school from TK through 5th grade. My child thrived at school academically and socially. The community is supportive and welcoming. The new principal has a terrific personality and connects with the students and families at morning drop off, school events like movie night, and visiting the classrooms. My child met great friends at Valley View and we will cherish those fond memories as we move on to middle school.

Our shy, cautious child thrives at this school where all the adults know everyone’s name. The smaller class sizes and experienced teachers have help my child excel academically and well beyond grade level. If as a parent you would like to be involved, there are many opportunities to be, but I’ve never felt pressured to participate when I didn’t have the time or resources. We’ve also never felt pressured to give the school money, which as freelance artists, we don’t always have. We truly feel like we are getting a private school experience without the elitism and the cost. The families are from diverse backgrounds and we have enjoyed getting to know them. It isn’t perfect. No school is, but if there’s ever an issue, the teachers and administrators are so responsive, we’ve never had trouble quickly tracking down a person to help.

Where to start? If you belong to the majority of the percentage of the student population, your child should do great at this school. However if you find your child is not part of the majority ethnically or racially, I truly would NOT enroll your child at this school. If you are looking for a school that accepts and supports students from different socio-economics, religious beliefs, race, ethnicity this is not the school for your child. They constantly asked parents for donations where the bare minimum is $500+.They cater based on where you fall on the socio-economic latter. A lot of cliques, personal family information circulates to the point the students ask other students questions that more than likely terms were used by an adult in similar context. They assume all students have the same learning style and capacity. If I had to use a metaphor, sink or swim, they will not blink an eye and allow your child to sink. However if your child swims they will help them sore. Basically when it comes to Justice and Equity half of 1 star. Majority of their staff is rude, extremely judge mental and very condescending, except for maybe a handful who are amazing. I wish I could tell you this was fiction but it is not. Please do your research very thoroughly before sending your child here, please.

I just want to say my child attended 5th grade last year (2021-22) and he had an awesome year despite the pandemic. His teacher used educational technology throughout the year. The teacher also assigned fun projects that were engaging and fun. I think Valley View is an amazing school because of it’s small community and strong academics. I recommend anyone to attend this school if you want a high quality public education.

Great. This morning, my six year old son was running down the steps with his shoelace open. The Principle of the school, Ms. Kim, stopped my son, bend down and tied his shoe laces. What a great gesture. Thank you Ms. Kim.

My child attended VV for the last 3 years of elementary school. We came from out of the area. One of the three teachers my child had was a proficient educator who liked children. The other two were not. The principal is a walking billboard for all that is bad about LAUSD: detached, unavailable, disinterested, unaware, rarely on site, but quick to cash her 100k+ paycheck and enjoy her annual 2 month vacation. She lacks vision, energy or regard for her job, and her disinterest shows on every level. The good news is that the parents, students and foundation supporters of the school are wonderful, as is its small size, better than average test scores, and many special programs. The school is safe, well-maintained and pleasant, despite its lack of a grassy field. Overall, Valley View is an intimate, pro-active community, with nice children, engaged parents and a bustling PTA. That is off-set by uneven teachers teaching the very lackluster LAUSD curriculum, headed by an incompetent principal. Depending upon what matters most to you for your child, VV could be a decent choice. For my family, it was a draw. We don't regret it, but we can't really endorse it either.

Overall my children had a wonderful experience at Valley View. Of course there are pros and cons to every school. Here is my honest opinion.PRO: Teachers and staff are very nurturing and caring.CON: Not the most academically rigorous school. Definitely not bad, but I would say it falls somewhere above average.PRO: High parent involvement. This is how 80% of everything that gets done at this school, gets done.CON: High parent involvement. Occasionally you will get the sour apples who think they are in a position to point fingers at others, when not surprisingly it is their children who are the issue. School lacks effective leadership and involvement from the principal.PRO: Small size. It has a nice community vibe. You can easily get to know all of the staff and even families outside of your kids' grades.CON: Small size. If you want your child to have many children to choose from as friends, you won't get this. There are only 1-2 classes per grade, sometimes 3 in Kindergarten depending on the enrollment.

My son is entering second grade this year. His time at Valley View has been wonderful, full of caring teachers and new friends. One of the greatest things about VV, for all of us, has been the small size of the school. Such a rarity in the LAUSD. The involvement from parents, teachers and faculty makes the experience much more akin to a charter school than one of the massive elementary schools you see all over the city. Can't recommend it enough!
