Principal Melanie Martinez is incompetent and doesn't take bullying or physical assault seriously my child was stabbed in the neck with a spork by another student, and she did absolutely nothing about it. She simply talked to the student and told him not to do it again. The child was not suspended or anything and was still allowed to play at recess. When I called to explain the seriousness of the child's actions I was told that I was overreacting. When I grew angry and used foul language I was hung up on. I had to get a police officer to go up to the school and explain the seriousness of what happened. Hopefully we get a new principal soon that actually looks out for our children. School should be a place that is safe for our kids. Be cautious when sending your children to this school. And don't ever stop advocating for your child.

Wharton has a motivated talented staff and a supportive community of parents that care deeply about our neighborhood school. Wharton has the benefit of being home to a dual language program where students learn in Spanish and English throughout their elementary years. Furthermore, it boasts a thriving music and art curriculum involving all students in creative endeavors and music performance.

I think this school is a great school! I went there as a child, along with my siblings, and one of my younger brothers attend there now, along with my daughter and niece. They all 3 love it and come home just as excited as they are in the morning to go. The teachers are awesome, return phone calls and write letters/notes along with phone calls just to let you know how your child is doing so far. The school will gladly help with any problems are anything you may need for your child as ive seen it happen multiple times with myself and other parents. My daughter, niece and brother have never complained of fighting problems or bullying problems which is a plus for a city school. The playground has greatly improved since ive been there as well as the building itself is much much larger. I would defiantly recommend Wharton tp any parent(s) in the Lancaster City area!! GO WILDCATS!!!
