If you care about your child's education, then do not go to this school. No grades, no real guidance, no discipline, no structure and no motivation geared towards actual education. It does not hold kids accountable, does not teach responsibility and does not set kids up for success.

This is not a school, this is a circus sideshow with a couple of clowns from the main office running it! If you love your child and value a good education, keep your child well away from here!

Wow, I was surprised to read such negative reviews for JCOS. We are half way into my daughter's first year at JCOS and it has been her favorite school yet. My husband has been a principal at the elementary school prior to her attending JCOS, so we have much experience within education. If I would have read these reviews prior to enrolling last year I might been more reluctant to do so. There's always going to be complaints but I wanted to make sure I highlight some aspects of JCOS which have been consistent all year.1) My daughter is happy. Which says a lot these days.2) She feels at home with her advising group and feels safe at her school. She feels that she is heard & seen.3) She is learning to take responsibility for her own deadlines and what is expected of her. 4) Her curiosity to find her creative strengths has increased substantially this year. She feels empowered being able to choose her own classes. Kids can get lost in curriculum where they don't have much space to explore their personal interests or to see where their strengths lie, outside of the structured academic realm. Thanks to the current Bluegrass band she's taking, she is playing keyboard at home almost every night and has been open to exploring other forms of music. 5) Way less drama than at any other school she has attended. 6) Caring & engaged principal, staff & PTSO. 7) Per inspires kids to love Math, through his unique teaching style.8) Simply a cool school which offers experiences my child will remember the rest of her life. So important these days to feel inspired. Inspired to grow, learn and share. We just enrolled for the 2023/2024 school year and as a parent I feel relieved that we have found a school which is a perfect fit for our daughter. A happy child = a happy parent.

Doesn't communicate, doesn't follow or do 504 reviews, advisors not trained, hardcore drugs use.

If you want to drop your child off for a loosely educational play-date this may be the right school for you. Although a few members of the staff have earned my respect and are highly effective others are deficient beyond words. Teachers communicate infrequently and poorly. Students are not instilled with a love of learning. They are rewarded for minimal effort until the student perceives minimal effort to be their best effort. The environment is social, it is not academic, it is no longer inspired. Before you enroll your child at this school make sure you understand how the reality differs from the beautiful philosophy on the web site. Many schools offer to develop and nurture the whole child. JCOS is not unique in that way. It is unique in so far as it will put the responsibility of self educating on your child while removing you from the communication loop unapologetically.

Disappointing, mentally exhausting, and they failed my child academically.

Worst experience ever! Guys, remember, Jeffco does Outdoor Lab at all its middle schools -- it's amazing and so well-organized! Way better than any of the lamely produced "trips" JCOS does. This school is for delinquents.

The children of teachers and staff are given ridiculous preferential treatment compared to other students at this school. Nepotism is rampant. When they need to hire a new teacher, they just find a parent instead of conducting proper recruitment. The parent teacher organization is a small unwelcoming clique.

Jeffco Open School is awesome and I would encourage any parent who wants their child to LOVE school to check it out. It's a complete educational community with children from pre-K to High School. It's centered around a large communal plaza/cafeteria that is always bustling with enthusiastic kids, parents and teachers. The walls are covered in amazing student projects, the teachers and administrators are encouraging and connected to students, and academics are pushed through personal passion and interest. All types of kids and parents feel nurtured and and welcome in this environment!
