We have two kids attending Sharp Park Academy and we’ve had three years of incredible experiences so far under the care of their teachers. My two kids have very different personalities (one is a quiet perfectionist who could easily melt into the background, and the other is talkative with energy to spare), however both have thrived in their respective classrooms because their teachers meet them where they are, grab their attention with incredible lessons (our 1st grade teacher had costumes she’d wear to teach different units - the kids loved it), and help them shine. Principal Lusby is always researching and enacting new ways to encourage and support students. As a new parent, I felt like I was a part of the SPA community very quickly because of the constant communication from Principal Lusby and teachers and also because of the many family-oriented events at the school. I am so grateful that when we were debating which school to have our kids attend, we chose Sharp Park Academy.

I feel both the principal of Sharp Park Academy and the superintendent have taken autonomy away from what my child desires for himself, and what I desire for him as a mother. I have filed a public complaint against the principal, and a public complaint against the superintendent which should be available. Please read my son and my overall experience before trusting the unethical, dishonest, and patriarchal educators who run this school.

We relocated across the country and our youngest son started at SPA and had an amazing experience there. He felt welcomed, supported, and made great friends. We appreciated the high expectations and support our son had in achieving them.

My boys went K-5 at Sharp Park and we loved every minute of it! The teachers and staff are so caring and go above and beyond to help and care for the students.

We have loved our time at SPA! The IB curriculum is terrific, and the focus on active learning, character development, and cultural awareness can't be beat. The teachers and admin are supportive and knowledgeable. Our daughter is being challenged in the classroom but not overwhelmed. She has great friends, and we feel like there has been amazing support there. We love the diversity and the foreign language curriculum. As parents, we have found many good friends there. We looked at many schools in the Jackson area, and this was the best choice for us. We have not had any bullying issues at all. We cannot recommend this school enough! :)

I heard positive info regarding this school. My child attended Cascades, then Frost and finally Sharp Park. These schools, all 3 of them, offer an overabundance of bullies. No teacher wants to get involved or discipline the bullies. They turn a blind eye and/or place blame on the weaker species who demonstrate they are unable to defend themselves. The majority of the population at either of these schools is actually the minority who contribute to the bullying significantly. There is definitely a racial tension issue.

When we enrolled my child in this school, I had heard nothing but good things. The first day we dropped her off I noticed hoards of security issues, which the principal explained were due to it being the first day of school. Chalk that up to overprotectiveness. Security issues continued, such as giving my child to family members who had never picked her up before and were not asked for I.D., adults wandering the school halls that didn't belong, and open perimiter doors. We then learned that my child's Kindergarten teacher has no control over her class and continually yells at her students. The last straw was when my wife witnessed one of my child's classmates being physically mistreated by the schools secretary in the school office (locking his wrists in one of her hands and pulling him around behind her), followed by the principal yelling at him so that my wife could hear it through the closed office door. The superintendant's investigation was useless, determining that the secretary was put in an impossible situation and the principal's reputation superceded this accusation. Needless to say neither of my children will be attending this school next year.

Caring and encouraging teachers, supportive staff, clean and well-maintained facility with a new library addition this year. Their international baccalaureate program fosters critical thinking - which I LOVE. They start teaching foreign language in kindergarten.
