Diana Alcebo, the teacher, exhibits concerning behaviors including emotional instability, storming out of meetings, sending hostile emails, and neglecting duties. She unfairly targets students and blocks parents from school updates on social media. Parents should request their child be moved.Principal Alecia McMillian lacks leadership qualities, neglecting resources like the summer lunch program and excluding boys from activities. She fails to address issues such as a fire in the school bathroom and admits to frequent forgetfulness. Her tolerance of employee misconduct and inability to handle issues jeopardize student safety. Her position should be reconsidered for the well-being of the school community.

The 4th grade teacher Alex Harrison is extremely unprofessional, rude, and does not support the student. From experience I have witnessed her badger the child and very unresponsive to bully behavior that occurs in her class.

Neither the staff nor teachers does anything about bullying.

To be honest, we live in the area and are zoned to the school. Upon reading these reviews we were apprehensive about sending our son to Walnut Bend after being in private day-care for 4 years. We're halfway through the school year and any concerns we had have been laid to rest, so much so that we didn't even bother with the HISD magnet program for next year which was something we were focused on last year. In short, our son is happy, progressing along at or above grade level, hasn't had issues with making friends, and loves the after school care program (Eagles Nest). Unlike some of our friends who chose to stay with the private school route, we have no complaints. Everyone's experience is unique, but we have not heard anything that contradicts our conclusion from the other parents of his classmates that we have met and socialized with. While we can't vouch for Walnut Bend's past, in our view we are lucky to have landed where we did. Generally speaking, reviews naturally tend to lean negative since it's the primary outlet to air grievances. Hopefully this review will help balance the scales and relieve any anxieties you may have about the school.

There is a teacher there who has a special ed certification teaching in a general ed setting who treats the special ed students without respect and should not be teaching.

The school has change focus and demographics the last coupe of years. Only by comparison to other bad schools in HISD could this school be rated well.

From the beginning, now Principal Dahlquist supported my son in joining the AU-SLC class at Walnut Bend and we had many challenges starting in 1st grade. Now my son is a well-adjusted 3rd grader actively mainstreaming in a typical classroom with the support of his SLC teacher Mrs. Shaw. Mrs. Shaw is in constant communication about support for Jacob. He's been very successful with Mrs. Gilio and his new friends in 3rd grade. I am so grateful for their guidance, support and wisdom. The SLC class at this school is a rare gem in the HISD system. My only concern now is finding an equally exemplary middle school after 5th grade!

Walnut Bend is a great neighborhood school that meets the needs of all children. The building is beautiful and the teachers and staff are top notch.

Walnut Bend is the worst Elementary I have ever dealt with. I can never speak to anyone when I call. I have left my number more than once for the principal to call me and she never does. The administrative staff is very rude and never seem to have any answers or useful information.

This is my sons first year ever in school he has always been home with me. His PreK teacher is wonderful he has a speech problem but she has him counting and knowing all his ABC's. Although he wasnt quite ready for school they worked with me and this semester he is going all day and doing very well. Principal is excellant and very involved and the teachers visit other schools so they can get tips on how to become better teachers which in my opinion they already are!!!
