Two of my children attended this school for many years. This is a fairly small school that offers a family-like atmosphere. If you call the main office, they will know who you are. Moreover, you will get to know the names of all the children in your child’s class each year. You will also get to know many of the families through the sports programs as well as school functions (recitals, plays, rodeo day, class parties, etc.).Importantly, the school promotes social, emotional and spiritual growth, in addition to academic growth. Children learn the importance of good character and the need to give back to the community. My children blossomed at this school. There is a proverb about how a young tree that starts to grow crooked never ends up growing straight. This school clearly helped ensure that my children grew “straight.”The class sizes are small. My children often had classes with 8 – 12 students. In terms of private schools in Houston, the tuition is very reasonable. In short, I would not hesitate to recommend this school to anyone looking to send his or her child to a small private school in West Houston. P.S. Naturally, I looked at the one-star reviews for the school. In terms of the curriculum, I know that the school routinely reviews its curriculum to ensure that it is current. If you call the head of school, she can speak to you at length on this topic if you want reassurance. Moreover, my two children consistently performed well on the annual standardized testing and were ahead of most of their classmates upon moving to a new school. Another one-star review cites bullying. While no school is immune from bullying, this is a small Christian school with a very favorable staff to student ratio, so bad student behavior is less likely to go unnoticed. Neither of my children ever raised the issue of bullying with me during their lengthy stay at the school.

I was not Fond of this School when I came here! The kids would always Bully me and the Faculty would do Nothing!!!!!!! When you do work, You don't do it as a class you just do it by yourself!!!!!!!!!!! They would give you different Books. For Math they use a Grade level above your grade level which its always hard to Learn! Then I decided to Leave this school and go back to my District!!!!!!!!!!

My daughter is in the PK3 program and I have been very happy. She is learning important social and behavioral skills that will serve her well for the remainder of her life. I am also very happy with the diversity of this school and the significant parental involvement. A perfect community of people working hard to ensure the best education for our children. I plan to keep my daughter here through 5th grade and pray that they decide to add a middle school to AES!

Ascension Episcopal School has long been recognized as a school that stands out not only for its academic curriculum, but also for the importance we place on developing social skills and building character among our students. Our purpose is to develop the child intellectually, spiritually, emotionally and socially. It is in a child's formative years that a love for learning develops, and Ascension Episcopal offers the opportunity to embrace and enjoy that adventure. Ascension Episcopal School is a family community committed to academic excellence. Through the close cooperation of parents, faculty and administration, we foster a nurturing environment, developing the individual potential and ability of each child. We encourage enthusiasm for learning, confidence in pursuing school tasks independently and respect for others while working cooperatively. If you trust us with your child's education, we promise to teach your child reading, writing and arithmetic and we will treat them with respect. We will hold them accountable for their actions and demand that they be respectful and use their manners. I highly recommend this school to everyone.

Ascension is a wonderful and loving school that educates the whole child. I have two kids attending and am so impressed at how they have grown- not just academically but also in their desire to serve other less fortunate than themselves. The diversity at the school is tremendous with great parent involvement. I can't recommend it strongly enough.

Do not send your children to this school until you visit all the options that are available in this area. I made a huge mistake for my children and they are now behind in every area. Academically, this program is extremely weak (worksheets from 10 years ago). Most teachers are old and tired and lack the knowledge and training that other programs offer. This school lacks in technology and cannot meet the needs of any child that does not fit into their perfect box. This environment in the past year has become very "clique" oriented, and an extreme amount of favoritism is given to that certain clique of families.

My child has been attending AES since early childhood. He is now entering the 3rd grade. He has matured academically, spiritually and most of all being an honorable, respectful young man. Teachers, staff and parents work together to make sure our child is getting the best education possible. I can't recommend a better school for my child then aes.

I have taught in a variety of public and private schools over the past 40 years and can attest that Ascension is my all-time favorite. Infants through 5th Grade students, parents, and teachers form a caring family, dedicated to each helping each student be all they can be academically, physically, socially, and spiritually. Small class sizes gives every child a chance to participate, build leadership qualities, and to receive the help they need to succeed to the best of their abilities. Strong leadership from the Head of School, awesome parents who are excited about being a part of their child's educational experience, and caring, experienced, professional teachers make Ascension a superb place for students, parents, teachers, and staff to thrive. A child here cannot get "lost in the crowd" and students leave Ascension at the end of Fifth Grade ready for a successful Middle School experience in any size Middle School, anywhere. Take a tour! You'll feel and experience the difference!

It is a pleasure to work at Ascension Episcopal School, you can know and work with each student in your class. The atmosphere allows teachers to respond to the different learning styles that students bring into a classroom. Teachers are passionate about every child meeting his or her potential and they support each other in every way. It is wonderful to be part of such a learning environment.
