Worst school. I had the worst time here. I got bullied and the teachers believed students that framed me. Looking back teachers treated me different then all the other kids.

This is one of the best elementary schools. In my experience the teachers genuinely care and are so involved with the children. I wouldn't send my son anywhere else. When I voiced concern over this upcoming PARCC test I was told not to worry that a single test does not measure a child s ability. The principal and teachers really do care. I feel fortunate to live is such a wonderful town with exceptional schools.

From a previous post: "I love this school. Went here as a child and had a great time. Many things about this school HAS changed over the years such as teachers and PRINCIPLES." (upper added for emphasis) Say no more...

I love this school. Went here as a child and had a great time. Many things about this school has changed over the years such as teachers and principles. Also, technology plays a large part in how students learn here now. The new principle is great and knows almost every student and parent by name or face. I had to transfer my stepdaughter here last school year from Catholic school. She loves this school and her new friends. I fully recommend this school to everyone.

I have read several poor reviews and I have to disagree. The new principal is very hands on and constantly engages with the parents and students. The teachers are terrific and helpful and reach out to parents before, during and after school hours to parents that want to be a part of their child's education. My child is in third grade there and is learning the same materials as cousins that are in fourth grade (in both NJ & PA school districts). Maybe there have been some significant changes in the staffing or the morale since the new principal was hired, but this is definitely a great school!

So sad. Left this school because of the closed-minded disfunctionality. I regret not writing the review right away, but I was concerned about confidentiality. The principal is awful and horribly apothetic. If you want your children to reach their potential, this will NOT suit you - look for other options. This school is as far away from the cutting edge of learning as you can get!

Such a waste of potential! I have always been a hands on parent, involved in the children's activities, sports, etc. To be clear, Hawthorne is a great town, and a terrific community to raise a family. From my experience there are great people in this town raising wonderful children, but Roosevelt School WOEFULLY under serves this community. These are the career administrators that are happy with status quo. There is no energy in this school, from the principal on down. While we have seen a few really good teachers, they are overwhelmed by the tide of apathy. We have had to opt for private school, despite already paying high taxes, because we owe it to our children to do something better than, "good enough." It is NOT good enough.

Great Schools should have a way of categorizing their reviews in a productive way. If you go through the reviews, save one positive review from May 2012, every other review is negative dating back to 2007, what does that tell you?? Recent reviews reflect recent performance and old reveiws reflect old performance. Roosevelt is a failing school, it failed our children and we moved because of it. An older 5th grade teacher made our child's school experience so awful that we, as parents, are full of regret that we did not pull our children out sooner. After putting our children in a different school system, the improvement to their grades and self esteem was immediate and profound. Roosevelt has some amazing teachers, but the overall system and leadership is in pitiful condition and parents coming into the school deserve to know this. A grade of "7" is deceptive, a grade of "4-5" would be more reflective of the school.

NO WAY! Our child is just finishing the 5th grade, and we have had a terrible experience. The friendships are great but the learning environment was awful. Our child is bright, but not a natural "go-getter." Well the motivation and enthusiasm from the 5th grade teachers is right out of the dark ages. Our child had an older woman teaching her 5th grade class who was particularly poor. The proof is in the Ratings by Grade on this site. While the school is rated a "7" overall, the 5th grade rating is a "5." Any parent who wants the best for their child should avoid Roosevelt. If average is OK for you kids, then this is the place.

We love Roosevelt School. We have two children who have attended K through 5. The teachers are wonderful and our children are flourishing. We appreciate the open door policy the administrators have at Roosevelt School. Every time we have needed help, they have listened and reacted to rectify the problem. We are proud to be part of this community and are confident our children are getting an excellent education both socially and academically.

DON'T BE FOOLED!! I have had it with the apathy from this school's administration and teachers. My child was at an excellent school system in the past, before we moved to Hawthorne, so I know the difference. The interaction and facilities are awful. I want better for my child, so next year its going to be a new school one way or another! My child can NOT get the appropriate attention in the areas where she is advanced (math and science), and in the places where extra help may be needed, nothing is done. I have heard personal nightmare stories about one of the older teachers in the fifth grade, and I'm not going to gamble with my child's future. Do your child the best favor that you can, and avoid this school.

Not impressed. We are looking for alternatives for next year. Friends of ours have children the same age locally who are way ahead of my children, and my children are bright and eager to learn. I am not sure what the problem is at Roosevelt, but my kids will be in a better school whether we have to pay for it or not. We tried to communicate with the principal, but found him to be unresponsive. Secure in his job, I guess.

I have to agree, as we were also let down by Roosevelt school. If your child is experiencing any type of problem, they will say their "team" is working with you, but believe me they were anything but working with us. While I think they do have some very good teachers, I am very disappointed with their "team".

Roosevelt school let my children down with a thud. My child had a terrible experience with an older, jaded teacher last year and we have put our children in a different school as a result. To make matters worse the principal was no help to me or my children. Turns out, my children are way behind academically now that they are in a quality school. I thought Roosevelt was keeping up but it is a failing school.

Moving away from this school district has absolutely opend our eyes to real quality. My daughter's teacher last year (an older long-time teacher) showed none of the care and energy that a good teacher needs. The principal was even worse. I have read some ratings of Hawthorne schools and test scores and always felt that it was a respectible district. However, now seeing real top notch schools in action, with energetic proactive teachers, I feel quite guilty that we did not make a change sooner. We love Hawthorne, but Roosevelt is AWFUL! Leadership changes are needed fast!

This is an honest review of our children's experiences, with no political ax to grind. There are some very good teachers in this school who care about individual students, & not just the framework of the education. Unfortunately as a whole, Roosevelt is a failing school. I should have known when my older child's teacher complained at the beginning of the year about budget and systems issues as an excuse for not being able to communicate via email. Excuses started from the beginning. If you have a child who needs any kind of extra attention, putting them in Roosevelt is tantamount to child abuse. They just DON"T CARE. Keep the factory conveyer belt going, don't worry about fixing any issues. We are "hands on" parents when it comes to education, we don't push off problems onto the school, but we did expect engagement and cooperation. Roosevelt DOES NOT offer that. The principal is there to get his paycheck. He says the right things, but there is no real effort or follow-through. He is completely ineffective. Hawthorne spends as much per student as many "rich" towns in the area, but the results are far inferior. Other than a few excellent teachers, Roosevelt is broken.

Because they have teachers that care and look out for the well being of your child. I'm so gladd we live in the Roosevelt school district. The support they have given my child has given him better self esteem and better grades. With the support of myself and his teachers it's really mad a big difference. Go Roughriders !!

I love Roosevelt School because the staff at Roosevelt works hard to educate their students and motivate them to do their best. This staff does this with very little technology but they do a great job!!!! They deserve to win.
