The worst feeling in the world is having to feel like you failed as a parent advocating for your child!! If your child has an IEP don’t send them to Arthur W. Edwards Elementary School Especially if they are in kindergarten and first grade, they DO NOT HAVE A CERTIFIED EC TEACHER IN THAT CLASS! They have a “long term substitute” that does not know how to handle and is NOT trained to handle EC children!!!!My child started that school 3 years ago, repeated kindergarten and now in first grade and is now academically behind at a pre-k level. After his first year of kindergarten I had to home school him for the first half to at least catch him up on being able to spell his name to being able to point out letters and tell you the sounds. You know things he should have at least learned in his first year of kindergarten being EC. After his most recent psychological evaluation done at the school his results came back as being at a 4 year old level! A child that should be in 2nd grade but understandably is not because of his IEP. Entering a school with an IEP of 14 months behind normal age group cognitively, to 3 years later ending up with being 48 months behind academically. DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILDREN TO THAT SCHOOL!!! Craven County Schools Thanks for making me feel like the worst parent in the world!!!

I don't even have the words to describe my child's horrible experiences he had while attending Arthur Edwards. My child was singled out, bullied, disrespected and wasn't getting the appropriate help needed. We moved and my child is attending a new school now and I'm very happy to report that my child is thriving in the current school thanks to the amazing teachers that actually give my child the love, affection and dedication that my child needs!!

The staff here(besides the two ladies in the office) are very rude and unwelcoming. Especially the principle. I feel the principle should greet you when passing in the hallway to make parents feel welcome. She doesn't smile, say hello or have a good day. Getting my son out of the school, can't come fast enough, for a lot of reasons.

My child recieved a high quality education. I enjoyed the amount of parental involvement and how the school encourage parents to part of their child(ren)'s education. If I would improve something at the school, it would be the building. The school is about 50 years old. The school system does a good job maintaing the school, but it could use some upgrades.

My son goes to AWE right now, and I'm getting ready to change him to a different school. He is just having a really difficult time getting along with his teacher. He is is second grade, and is signing the log 2 or 3 times a day. I went to talk to the Principal today and asked if he could change teachers and she basically told me no. She said that the log is just a way to try to discipline the children, it doesn't mean that they are bad kids. The Principal told me she was gonna talk to the teacher and my son and get the issue resolved. But when I picked my son up from school he told me that she didn't talk to him but she talked to the teacher. And when the teacher came back to the classroom she told my son that the Principal told her that he was crying all the time because he didn't want to go to school. So she basically made him look like a cry baby in front of all his friends and she singled him out, which is not cool at all!

I have NO IDEA what that parent who moved to CA is talking about! AWE is the BEST school ever! They are doing an AWEsome job with my children. When my children came from CA schools, they were so LEFT behind. AWE teachers have a heart and have a love of teaching. The teachers always challenge my children to do better. They don't just teach to a level, they TEACH each child to their highest potential. I am so impressed how the teachers go above and beyond the call of duty. They are always trying to help and figure out what will work best for my children. They do what is best for ALL students and families. I especially love that they work with military families. The principal understands military life because she is a military mom herself. She is a great leader and is always fair. The PTO is so great at AWE. They always encourage parent involvement. YOU WILL LOVE AWE! It is also a year round school which works out great for family vacations throughout the year.

It's been almost a year since we transferred from AWE to California and after comparing curriculum, teacher and other faculty dispositions and just the overall positive outlook our son exhibits, I thank God every day that we moved!!! I felt that our son's growth was so stifled at AWE. Teachers were just "going through the motions" and there was no apparent motivation for the teachers to do anything but the bare minimum. In his California school, the passion that his teachers exhibit and the encouragement from all other staff is contagious!! The students can't help but feel it and my son is actually encouraged to reach his full potential!!! There is definitely a progressive nature to learning in education that AWE needs to look into emulating. In contrast, AWE is just......sad and I feel bad for all the students there who will never experience a positive and progressive thinking learning environment....unless they move.
