5th grade 2021-2022 has been a complete nightmare. I have a special needs child with an IEP. There are 6 or so different teachers that my child has to interact with everyday. Each teacher honors/Administers his IEP at their discretion, which is confusing for my child and highly problematic. Additionally teachers make mean spirited comments to my child when he is struggling with an assignment. Today's example came from para that refused to assist my child w a math problem and then scolded my child when they saw that he hadn't completed the problem by saying ," i am disappointed in you. You had better speak to Mr.Mathteacher or you'll be doing it for homework." The para's tone was not kind or supportive. Its been like this the ENTIRE year. Ive reported each incident to the administration with no resolution. As a result of their mismanagement of my child's IEP and the staffs over all low emotional intelligence, my child has suffered both academically and social-emotionally. Shame has NO place in the class room. There is no other 5th grade in the town we live in.

This school caused me so much depression and anxiety, I got bullied and made fun of everyday, 6th grade was the worst year of my life. None of the teachers cared about me when I was really struggling.

My daughter is in her second year and it has been disappointing. I was hoping for more academic rigor and maybe some advanced classes and a tiny bit of tracking (yes, I used that word) but found neither. An earlier poster mentioned sports but there really are no sports. Sadly, the kids only have about 20 minutes for recess and there is no playground - just a black top and a field. This is Guilford, not NYC! The highlight for us has been a great set of 6th grade teachers. Thank goodness for them.

I have a child in this school and have been very disappointed in this school in many ways. The school is very negative in my opinion, focusing on discipline, instead of engaging the students in interactive positive learning. My child used to love going to school but that all changed when my child began attending Baldwin. This is extremely disappointing in this 'highly rated' school system.
