My son goes to this school. I am very glad. The teachers are also very good and so are the staff.

I would quit my job and homeschool before I let my child attend another semester. Racism and bullying are rampant; student supervision and family collaboration/engagement are non-existent. Good luck if you have a child with an IEP and expect support and comprehensive feedback. We moved out of Glendale to save our kids from this toxic environment.

Great school! We have two kids enrolled in the Spanish immersion FLAG program and have been thrilled with their experience so far.

Love this school very much! I was a former student and now our children go to John Muir Elementary. The teachers are wonderful and our children enjoy going to school.

We love the FLAG program. The teachers have been supportive and it's been great to be able to attend our local school. You should give this local gem a look.

The teachers in the FLAG program are AMAZING!!!! No matter which teacher you get, your child is in EXCELLENT hands. Unfortunately, the administration is not attentive to the needs of the individual student and is not supportive enough to the teachers.

John Muir's FLAG program is the reason why we purchased in the area. We want both of our kids to be able to speak and understand Spanish, which is a very valuable skill in CA. We love how involved the school is with students and all the extracurricular activities planned for the students. The new addition to the school also looks very nice. Glad they got rid of the bungalows.

The FLAG program is great at Muir. My kids only receive Spanish instruction at school and both of them are now reading, writing and speaking in Spanish. It's an amazing thing to watch in a short period of only two years. The parent community is growing stronger every year, which makes Muir a great place to learn.

My son finished his first year at Muir (in the FLAG Spanish program) a couple of months ago and we had a wonderful experience. The kinder teachers, Maestro Ortiz and Maestro Escobar, are committed, loving and talented educators. We had Maestro Ortiz and I saw firsthand as a parent volunteer how well he manages his classroom and the standard of excellence he sets for his students. And the kids loved him! My son left kindergarten with sweet new friends, a surprising understanding of Spanish and the skills needed to confidently enter 1st grade. As a school in general, John Muir Elementary is warm and welcoming and has a small group of committed parents who work together to put on fun events for the kids and to fundraise for programs like music class and field trips. All in all, we feel extremely fortunate to have gotten a spot in the Spanish program and we're looking forward to several more years as a John Muir family.

The FLAG teachers at Muir are AMAZING and it feels like family. My girls love coming to school. One is starting 2nd grade and the other is starting 3rd grade and they speak, read and write in Spanish. The Muir Spanish FLAG program works!

My brother has been at this school for awhile now and I've never seen him in a better environment. He loves his teachers and loves the way they learn the subjects. However, it seems like some of the staff here need to learn some proper manners. If you decide to place your child in this school then be prepared to deal with the rude people in the front of the office. Also, the rude nurse should not have a job there. I had a conversation with her about my brothers medication and every answer back I got was introduced with a rude tone of voice and a flurry of different appalled faces. I was shocked to see such an immature person in an environment with kids. I don't know whether she was judging me by how I looked but I've never encountered anyone as rude as her at a school.

My child has attended John Muir Elementary school as a 5th grader for one year only- I will not permit any further attendance. As an African American household, we value education of the highest standard and this school doesn't cut it in any shape, form, or fashion. The schoolwork is mediocre, the school condones reading material offensive in nature, and riddled with curse words. When I wrote a logicial request to the school asking for more intelligent literature for the children to study, my child was told, "not to make waves".Our second week in attendance, my child was called the "N" word by an Armanian boy on the playground, and the less than intelligent front staff gave nothing more than a warning to the boy and his family; no conflict resolution, or anything sustainable. This is the first school I can honestly say I've felt has been a complete waste of a year, and I'm disappointed because Glendale has much to offer; if you desire a complacent/ less modern / less ambitious environment for your child.

This school has great potential. The teachers are experienced and committed, and the surrounding community and parents are active and supportive. Unfortunately, the principal lacks leadership, vision, and passion, and parents who can are looking for a way out. Look at the websites for other gusd elementary schools and see the difference. Muir doesn't even have a website. Teachers are not being supported and are being scapegoated. A toxic culture is developing and teachers are afraid to speak up. The principal makes excuses and empty promises, but seems clueless about how to run a school. Community and school resources are not being utilized productively. Help GUSD! Please save us! This ship is sinking fast.

Muir is one of the schools in the district with a Spanish dual immersion program. There is very low parent involvement compared to our home school. There are few green areas or shade for the children but I believe the administration is working on that. My big complaint with the school is that a new teacher who seems stressed with children is allowed to tell parents that she does not want parent volunteers in the class. This seems unwise and parents and the administration should be wary of a kindergarten teacher refusing parent volunteers. Morning drop off often means parking 3 blocks away from the school and walking in, but that might be a common problem with area schools.

The front office is rude. So sick of their attitude. Can't help but wonder if they are so unhappy why don't the look for another place of employment. It could also be that the head of the school is setting the tone for the 'meet and greet' to be so disrespectful. Either way this school needs an overhaul of their front office. On one person in particular.

My son has attended John Muir for 6 years now and I couldn't be more pleased. Even with the ridiculous amounts of budget cuts to our public schools, Muir has steadily improved its API scores. The teachers are wonderful and highly experienced. The PTA and fundraising committees are excellent. Our Spanish Immersion program is a big hit bringing in great families from all around Glendale! My son's fifth grade class was introduced to Chrome books this year which has been fantastic. Now that the money is trickling back into our schools where it belongs, I only see great things in store for John Muir! I'll be sorry to leave next year. This is a wonderful school and Adam's Hills residents should definitely send their kids to Muir. I'm so happy I did!

I attended this school from kindergarten until sixth grade and they were literally the best. My teachers were always engaging and class was looked forward to. I never felt left behind or confused in any way. John Muir is an amazing school and I always tried my best there because I was motivated not because I was told to. John muir does have its flaws like any school but it does NOT overpower all the good stuff. I did not enjoy the music program and that's really the only thing I disliked. Go mustangs!!

Muir is a very good school. Teachers are intelligent, nice, and caring. I guarantee you that if your child attends Muir u nor your child will regret it. They have an awesome principle Dr. Junge. She is why we have an awesome school that everyone likes. If you have a child who is going to 6th grade at Muir, I'm telling you she/he won't regret it. John Muir is like a second home to all the students because the teachers act like good loving parents to all the students, and all the teachers and staff treat everyone equally. My years that I went there I saw that there was no favoritism in any way possible. Your children are very safe at Muir. GO MUSTANGS!!!

I am a 2012 graduate of this school, and I believe this is the most safe and disciplined learning environment in all of GUSD. If you are still debating if you should enroll your children, I HIGHLY recommend it. The instructors are understanding, polite, and hardworking. John Muir has brought English language learners to become honor students. Teachers and staff will do all they can to ensure a promising future. I still consider this school my home, even though I've moved on into a more challenging era of my life.
