This school is too big and clicky! Do not move to the area for your kids to attend this school!! The principal and administrators do not care about the children nor their well being. The teachers and counselors are overwhelmed. The children are just a number to bring in the good grades. Everything is a facade, the clubs don't even meet, they list so many activities but don't materialize but once a month. And it has nothing to do with covid... My child has straight A's but nothing is ever done for emotional well being nor relationship friendship building which is just as important. The counselors each have 300 kids they just schedule classes for and don't have time nor are allowed to be true counselors. If you have money to move to this area better to spend it on a smaller private school that will care about your child, know who your child is and your child can make friends and truly benefit and enjoy their high school years. There are also many other good high schools I wish we would have visited before moving to the area.

I love the school and it has amazing teachers and staff who always make sure their students are participating in activities, even having some super fun events to help the students become more involved in learning.

I moved to my current home specifically for my kids to attend Deep Run HS. Unfortutenly there was a change in leadership a couple of years ago and the main focus has changed from teaching subject matter to indoctrination of leaderships political beliefs. This is not the job or purpose of a publicly funded school. If given a chance to start over, I would have my kids attend a Private school. However, due to HCPS policies on not opening despite CDC guidelines, there is no private school opening to be found.

The only reason students the academics are so good in this school is because of the insane grade inflation. AP courses, for example, are supposed to be challenging in general. However, the teachers here that teach these courses will curve everyone's grade up by up to 40 points. Because of this, taking AP classes at this school is like taking normal courses at a school which does not inflate their students' grades.

Overall, the school was a good experience. I think the school could do a better job supporting extracurricular activities that don't involve sports.

It's definitely a great school academically. Sports wise... yeah not so much. Only sports DRHS is really good at is tennis, soccer, track, and golf. Bullying obviously happens everywhere, I haven't really seen it though. And if someone were so blatantly bullying someone else, people would definitely step in and stop it (I know I would). Academically, this school is very competitive and it sometimes gets the best of you. I personally used to get straight A's from the 7th grade all the way till sophomore year, then junior year happened, I took more AP's, and died. If I was going to give anyone advice it would be to not challenge yourself so much to the point where your mental health and happiness is suffering because DRHS academics will do that to you. Now, the school is very.. very... very.. preppy and white, but it has gotten better over the years; more diversity. Some people will care about how you dress and all the little cliques your in, but just find a close knit group of friends and you'll feel like you fit in perfectly. It's also high school, and high school is rough, but also fun.

6 This school has students that feel they can do anything they want without any consequences and there's low key racism and some bulling. Bullying is everywhere but when u come to your leaders or teachers they handle some situations lightly.

It's awful. Everyone is a bunch of hypocrites and snobby white rich kids. I'm a junior and have been here for three years, so I should know. There are some nice people, but they're fake. I completely and wholeheartedly agree with the dude who starred this a one about Kaplan. She even refused to meet with my friend about college financial aid, and now she cannot receive any. The principal is really nice though and most of the teachers can teach well and effectively.

I could write a novel about how much i deeply resent this school but ill just sum it up for you. I'm currently a new sophomore, whom just moved here, & the kids are all the same, snobby rich kids who will hate you if you dont dress or look like them. the teachers on the other hand have outstanding teaching methods, but the counseling office plus administration is by far the worst i've ever seen. there would only be 2 counselors that are genuinely nice, but the other 2 dont even try to help you. There's a counselor, I believe last name is Kaplan & wont even listen to your problems, i can tell just by speaking to her, she has lost her taste in counseling a long time ago. Sports programs have downgraded, but over all, not a good school to attend if youre outgoing or unique. good school to attend if youre quiet and have a straight focus on your education.

Im currently a junior at Deep Run and I have to say I love it here. I'd have to say academic wise it's great. Most of the teachers are fantastic and then there are some who well let's just say they lost their passion for teaching. We're fortunate enough to have some great programs such as our art department, music department, and theater department. The art department really allows young artist to grow artistically, the seniors even get their own art show which is very nice. The music department has chorus and band they're both great! If you enjoy singing or playing an instrument you'll love it. The theater department is really good at the school (I'm a bit bias) they do two shows every year and they also put on the Mr. Deep Run which is a male version of a beauty pageant. We also have marathon dance which is a great way to get involved and help the community. Most of the teachers at Deep Run do a really great job at teaching the material and getting it to stick. I will say I have always had at least one teacher who just doesn't do very well at teaching the material. Everyone has their own learning styles and some teachers don't get that. Not many teachers that I have had just gives us packets and just stands at the front lecturing on it and the one time I did it was math so it worked out. The student body is really I would say is pretty socially diverse (for the lack of a better word) with the type of people you'll find. We do have quite a bit of preppy kids but we also have kids that are the furthest thing from preppy I have seen. Most of the people I've encountered here are really nice and also really accepting of everyone (all shapes, sizes, personalities, and sexual orientations). I read a review that said you had to be popular to have fun here and that's just not true. I'm a theater kid and the opposite of popular and I have a blast here. There's this big stereotype that Deep Run is a bunch of white rich kids whose parents buy them everything and that's not 100% true at all. It's bothersome to be stereotyped to be honest. Anyways, I'm very Deep Run fortunate to go here. It's a great school in my opinion!

I'm a freshman here at Deep Run. Deep Run is a good school to go to if you want to learn, at least in my experience. Some of my friends have teachers that don't actually teach their subject. The Music, Sports, and Drama programs are really good. There are dozens of clubs to choose from, and many many special events I advise students go to, such as Mr. Deep Run or DRMD. A word of advice to my non-cishet friends- This school is very, very straight. Hetero Couples constantly roam the halls, and while there are quite a few non Heterosexual students (Myself included), we're not showy about it. It's kind of in the background. I haven't encountered anyone who wasn't cis, but maybe I wouldn't know. Deep Run also doesn't have a GSA. Overall, Deep Run is a good school for learning and extracurriculars. It is preppy, but I haven't observed any bullying. College prep classes, that I've observed, are chaotic, so try your hardest for Honors, if that's your thing. I'm only a freshman, so I haven't experience a lot of things, but please do take my advice.

To have fun at Deep Run you have to be popular, have a lot of friends or be really smart. I have none of the qualities. I love music, and they have a really bad music program. We suck at sports. The only thing that I like is that they have a swim team. There is bullying they don't care. Some of the teachers even laugh when told. The teachers do not teach and are not helpful.

Deep Run High School has the most dedicated teachers I have ever met. They consistently go above and beyond in assisting their students. The classes are very challenging and prepare the students well for college. My child is very quiet and has found some good friends. Students are very spirited and the sports teams are great. Their are numerous clubs and organizations for students to become involved in as well.

The school is great for AP classes. The teachers actually teach, and like to engage their students in hands on lessons and make learning fun; but, if you're going to take college prep classes, brace yourself for classmates who don't care about anything that is being said to them. They will make the classroom a disruptive and disorderly place. The teachers are interrupted constantly, and the students who actually like to learn aren't being taught. This really bothers me because we are the next generation, and this is our chance to prepare for the future, and these students do nothing except mess around and get in the way of that. Another thing- I've been to three different high schools in my entire high school career, and this one by far, has the most amount of cliques I have ever encountered. I've been to an all girl boarding school, an all girl Catholic private school, and Deep Run and the kids here are incredibly disrespectful. I guess it's because majority of them come from money, are extremely entitled. I've found it very hard to find down to earth students here.

I am currently attending Deep Run, and I have to say that the teachers here don't have a passion to teach anymore. They just give us worksheets and hope for the best. This school is very separate socially. The teachers try hard to seem cool to the loud mouthed disruptive students but is losing respect from the nonpopular minority. If the school got teachers that actually got degrees in their subject they teach maybe I would learn more. I don't get bullied, and I don't see much bullying. The groups in this school are very separate but they all are very strong and will stand up for eachother. In a summary, I dislike the teachers, dislike that our school is deemed as the "rich" school, I hate the laptops because they are only a distraction to class, but I love my friend group, I love the schools passion (even though we suck at every sport except tennis),and I love marathon dance. My english teacher is amazing though because she actually challenges her students to do well, which I've never actually experienced. Shes an awesome teacher.

I graduated from Deep Run in '13. I disliked it very much. From an educational standpoint DRHS is an Above Average high school if you are a "normal" student, but as a student with disabilities I believe the education I receive was watered down just because I had an IEP, instead of taught in new and different ways I was stuck in a classroom with disruptive students who could care less about their education. They taught us all year so that we could pass a test at the end of the course and that was all they cared about. From a social standpoint I was tortured almost everyday with some form of bulling. Because I did not look the right way or have the right clothes I was immediately an outcast and stayed that way for 4 years. None of the Bulling that was reported resulted in any disciplinary action, DRHS likes to sweep incidents under the rug and pretend it never happened, instead of dealing with them. Bulling is a huge problem at DRHS, during my four year I had "holy water" thrown at me in the halls, asked to prom as a joke, and they joked about my weight and medical problems all the time. DR is not a bad school, but if you are "different" it can be a very hard place to attend school

I love Deep Run, it is very good. The Sports teams are good, the Teachers are very good as well. Compared to JR Tucker, it is very Preppy, so if you are new, it might be awkward for you as most of the kids here like me have money but just get in with your group & you'll love it.

My son is currently a junior and he says his experiences have been great. Great teacher, staffs, friends, clubs, pretty much everything there is satisfying to him. But next year, my daughter who's a very timid girl, is going to be a freshman. All of her friends are going to Glen Allen HS and I'm afraid she won't fit in well. She's very smart, a little quiet, but she's very talkative once you get to know her. She's very afraid of those 'popular' girls and 'perverted' guys in school so she's a little nervous. If you have a son or daughter who's currently attending there, please tell me if the girls and guys there are nice. Is it easy to make friends? I've heard many great reviews about this school.
