Top 4 elementary PTA school, only one with a prominent hispanic population. Has an amazing ESL program. Huge facility, best teachers in the state, very very hands on experience, and very academically successful. Not very academically successful unfortunately for the hispanic community it’s districted for, could use more resources from the county to handle that testing issue. City is facing amazing growth in population and diversity. More hispanic and black populations have moved into the new and older suburbs. Closest school you are going to get to a private school in the central kentucky area, esp being a non magnet school. As far as the county, there are a lot of school admin issues. But the no magnet schools in the county is great, bc still having a specialized school is a lot more accommodating since they are still enrolled half day at their home high school (+for college, technically only enrolled at one normal high school).

I open enroll my son at Western and this is his first year there. They are very innovative and have tried a few new things this year which have helped my son tremendously. He received a math workbook to keep at home...I sometimes search through the workbook and find problems which match up with things he's struggling with, so that has been very helpful. The after school program REALLY reinforces what they are learning all day and I've been very impressed with the teachers he has in first grade and also the after school program. They also purchased an online subscription for reading so kids can log in from home, read books, take quizzes and earn points to use within the program. My son hasn't started the AR program as fast as I would have liked and that is frustrating, but the important part is really that he is reading well.

My daughter has been enrolled at Western Elementary for 2 years now. Last year we had a wonderful experience with them, but this year I am not nearly as impressed. Until this point of the school year I assumed that my daughter had a science teacher. Turns out she doesn't and is really not being taught much science at all, which worries me as a prospective middle school science teacher because she needs to have a good grasp on science next year. I find this fact appalling! My daughter has really excelled there, but I feel that there are things that are lacking. They don't take the kids on field trips unless they are in honors programs, which my child is. I think this is a huge disservice to students as field trips are valuable opportunities to learn. I think that their pick up procedures at the end of the day are inefficient and could stand to be improved. In our old district we did car rider signs that had a number assigned to each student and we were allowed to get out of the car and wait for the kids, but not here. My final gripe is with the district as a whole. Build some snow days into your schedule. It is completely foolish not to.

Western Elementary Georgetown, KY Great school! Love most all of the teachers. Would recommend to others.
