Here is DBES in a nutshell: we only had experience with the 2nd & 3rd grade teachers. That being said, the 2nd grade teachers are wonderful -- helpful, and seem to love their jobs. The 3rd grade teachers need lessons in controlling their tempers (they yell at and over-discipline the students), how to handle bullying, and actually TEACHING...not just regurgitating Common Core theories and handing out a ton of worksheets and study guides so the parents can do all the teaching at home. Glad Frattaroli left, he was never a student advocate, more a manager of the minutiae of running a school. He spent plenty of time listening to the parents, but actually zero time applying the necessary changes or adjustments that would have benefitted his students. As a first year school, it should have been his top priority as they worked out the kinks and tried to make it an outstanding experience instead of just a mediocre one. It is a crying shame that schools have gravitated toward encouraging young people to be submissive and uncreative, and hyper-focused on state test scores which are an inaccurate representation of what has been taught, learned, and retained.

LOVE this school - so friendly & welcoming. The staff and teachers all seem to be right on top of everything and I love all the technology! My kids are new to the district and this is such a beautiful place for them to go everyday... they are learning at better pace, have more opportunities available to them, field trips, extra activities and come home happier everyday. DBES is a WONDERFUL learning place!

The E & E program is a huge success. Instead of my children sitting in the hallway waiting for the day to start, they are engaged as soon as they walk in the door. Breakfast in the classroom is also an amazing program the school started. A lot of students can not make it to school in time for breakfast in the cafeteria, and getting a few minutes to start your day with nutritional food, is a great advantage that now all kids can enjoy. The teachers are very supportive of the students as well as the amazing admin staff that is always available to answer questions. We have an very active and supportive PTO that has worked with the SIC to create after school enrichment programs and other school programs that enrich the students experience at this school.

For starters: Fort Mill School District allowed the principal, Mr. Fraterolli to start the school year only to leave (to take a "corporate"job) after about 3 weeks of school starting. This has set such a negative tone throughout the entire school. Not sure that the teachers even knew they would get a new principal. Shame on you administration! Another issue is teachers are constantly taking days off or are away from school for some reason, A LOT! School has only been in session for a couple months. Then they blame the kids when they aren't doing well! Shame on these teachers, you know who you are! You wouldn't take so many days off with a corporate job. They get the summer off and several days during the school year. Another things is breakfast in the classroom. The cafeteria and a table is where kids should eat. Instruction is what should be going on in the classroom. Next thing E & E. Students should be allowed into the classroom earlier to get ready for the day. I am so disappointed with so much that goes on at this beautiful new school (building). Bond referendum was approved just to put money into unnecessary things. Can't believe the school year has just begun and there are so many problems! Hopefully things will change for the upcoming years or I will have to send my child somewhere else!
