St. Kevin Catholic Academy is a safe, warm and nurturing school. My children are excited to go every day and have nurturing and dedicated teachers. As an educator, I appreciate the emphasis on rigorous, conceptual learning in math. My children in Kindergarten and 1st grade are building a foundation for algebra numerical equations. It is wonderful that the students receive instruction in Spanish, music, art and time in the science lab to foster a well-rounded education. The principal, Mrs. Murphy, is responsive to parents and goes out of her way to ensure that everyone has a positive experience. I have personally seen the compassion she shows to children, and she always puts their needs first. Mrs. Murphy and the PTA address any concerns and questions they come their way no matter how minor or trivial they may seem. I have personally befriended parents from the entire political and religious/spiritual spectrum. I have never felt that the school has promoted any certain political agenda. Please keep in mind that it is a Catholic School and therefore children are taught the Catholic faith. If you are looking for a school to send your child(ren) to where they can learn, make friends, participate in school activities, thrive, feel safe and connected. Then St. Kevins Catholic Academy is for you. The administration and teachers are nurturing, yet instill discipline and responsibility in the students. They offer an early morning program, after-school, and lunches at reasonable cost. They have a very active CYO program, after-school clubs, Girl Scouts/Boy Scouts, and Parent Association. They also have a wonderful SEPTA (Special Education Parent Association) association as well.

There are many things I could say about St. Kevin Catholic Academy, but I will leave it at this. St. Kevin is not just a school- it is a family where your child will be truly loved and cared for every second they are there. The principal pours her entire self into this school, as do the teachers. It is one of the best decisions I have ever made as a parent and I can't imagine my daughter going anywhere else. We recently purchased a home in western nassau county, and will continue to drive to St. Kevin for as many years as we can to ensure our daughter can continue to have this experience.

I can not say enough about how great this school is. We were lucky enough to come to this school during covid when all public schools were remote. My 2 children who are currently in 1st and 2nd grade are thriving. The school has an amazing principal and wonderful teachers. There a very strong sense of community. The parents are very involved. The school hosts a variety of events that bring the school and community together. This is not the case in public school. I am thankful for the opportunity to be a part of such a great school while children and parents make long lasting friendships.

My child has been of St. Kevin Catholic Academy since kindergarten. He loves the school, his friends and teachers. I have had a great experience as a parent. The school community is so welcoming and teachers are willing to work with a parent and their child. I reccomend taking a tour and seeing all the great things the school offers yourself.

I am a St Kevin alumni, but a public school teacher, so at first it was a hard decision to make about where to send my older son to school, when he was approaching school age. My husband is also a catholic school alumni who believes in the values of catholic schooling as well as the friendships made through school and the extracurricular that the catholic youth guild provides. Together, we made the decision to send our first son to SKCA and it has been a great decision that I won’t regret. Hence, his little brother followed right behind. Our older son is currently in 6th grade and started there in Pre-K. The middle school has been amazing. Very up to date on technology and excellent preparation for high school. My younger son is in 2nd grade and also having a wonderful experience since pre-k. The science lab at SKCA is expansive. The teachers have been very caring and excellent at enriching their academic education. The classrooms have technology such as Smartboards, chromebooks and IPads which excite my tech-savvy kids! The curriculum and programs match or are similar to the ones I teach in the public school system and some are even better, in my opinion. I appreciate that the school values the learning of a foreign language in the young years. The Academy has encouraged creativity in art as well as instilled good morals and values through the religion classes and church time. It is great to be able to celebrate Christmas with the students at all of the events, fundraisers, and the amazing Christmas Concert (and Spring concert), led by the talented music teacher. Every holiday, both religious and national, as well as multiculturalism is not only recognize, but celebrated in many ways and the children enjoy these celebrations. The Academy Parent Association (APA) is exceptional and focused on parent communication and student/family collaboration and fun! I highly recommend SKCA if you’re looking for a fun, safe, loving, and enriching learning environment for your child.

We are so very happy with the warm, caring, safe and nurturing environment at SKCA. Our son started in Pre-K and is now in second grade. Our younger child just started 3K. Our children and receive a well-rounded education in Spanish, art, music, physical education, and time in the science lab in addition to the core subjects. There is outdoor space for them to play. The principal, teachers and staff are extremely responsive. There is an active parent association, and we see the expectation for parental involvement to be such a positive for the school community. It also enables you to have a strong voice and role in your child's education. The school even has a SEPTA (Special Education Parent Teacher Association).

This school is a gem in Flushing. It is so refreshing to be apart of such a warm and loving community. My children have made friends with such wonderful children who come from such good involved families. The teachers are beyond exceptional. They’re always accessible and willing to always hear and respond to questions and concerns. The school requires a good amount of parental involvement, but I consider that a positive attribute because it strengthens the school community and gives parents an opportunity to meet with one another. I’m also pleased with the schools’ safety features.I know my children are safe and being looked out for when they are in the care of St Kevin’s. There are few reasons keeping us in Queens, my kids going to this school is a major factor is why we haven’t left.

The school has gone through a major overhaul of new teachers and administrative staff but it continues to have the same problems that are mentioned in earlier negative reviews. The school's biggest new feature is the 3K, PRE-K addition that was added to help increase student enrollment into the K-8 programs. Parents of students and community members who pay tuition don't necessarily welcome the outside families into the communities as much as they are deemed outsiders using the school as a DOE rental income for the school community. The school education itself is pretty much luck of the draw on which teachers are remaining and which teachers have left to find better opportunities elsewhere each year. The PTA meetings and members are reminiscent of those seen on local news arguing against anything that the education of a child should be restricted to certain ideals and morals. There is a lot of required volunteer hours that families are required to fulfill in order to avoid a $200 dollar fee for not meeting the volunteer hour requirements. All school based activity functions in the community are fund raising events that require payment for participation. The sports programs for children are run on a separate platform as members of the parish.

Our experience at St. Kevin Catholic Academy has been exceptional. We started in the Universal PreK program , and are now entering 1st grade! Our son has gained confidence , learned so much and made great friends . The teachers and principal are truly invested in the children’s education and experience.Even in the midst of a pandemic , our little was able to be part of school activities that were fun AND safe. Walkathon , Halloween Bash, Paint Night ,Lego Club etc ect …. the school used technology and thought outside the box to give the children and their families opportunities to still enjoy school activities.SKCA has been a very positive experience for our family!

St. Kevin is a warm, caring environment for students with excellent academics as well. My son attends currently and I love how every staff member greets him with warm welcomes every day. The staff genuinely gets to know all the students, making it a wonderful community for learners and families. I love their options for little ones, too. They have a mommy and me program, full day nursery, and UPK. A flexible and affordable afterschool is also a huge help for working parents!

While the education they provide to kids maybe top notch, the attitude and agrssive tone of teachers is just too much. They think it's boot camp and little kids as young as 3 are forced to act in ways that a 3 yrs old can't fully understand. Don't move, don't talk don't laugh don't play... some teahers have lost patience all together and are verbally abusive and at points even use aggressive force to calm kids down. Every kid that comes out of the building looks scared as if they had seen a monster for 6 hours! The staff lacks passion and patience but do know how to squeeze that $ out of you. They don't have an open door policy you can't pop in to see them in action I wonder why! Be smart, go to a public school instead.Kids needs to be kids not be forced to behave like a mini army!

Went to Saint Kevin's in the sixties. I t was a very unpleasant experience. There was a lot of physical punishment. However, that was a long time ago. Thinking the environment had changed, I enrolled my daughter. My daughter was at the school for four years. During that time she was bullied by a group a boys. There was one boy who lead the bullies. The bullying got worse as she moved up the grades. During a school recital she was locked in a closet. The boys then took her out of the closet, held her hands behind her back and threw erasers at her chest. My daughter was traumatized. During this time, there were mothers watching the children. None of them came to my daughter's aide. After the event my daughter was further victimized by the school counselor who blamed my daughter for the harsh treatment she received from the bullies. Prior to this experience I had spoken to the boy's father and told my daughter to ignore the boys. However, these boys were not being taught how to treat people. I blame their parents and teachers. Finally, I took a stand. I called the police, filed a complaint, and removed my daughter from the school. A few years later I met a teacher from St Kevin's. I told her that my daughter was doing better academically. She told me she knew my daughter had potential , however, the bullying impeded her ability to learn. I asked her why she didn't Inform me about the situation. I did not receive any answer. I can only guess it was to protect her job. I never spoke about my daughter's experience at St Kevin's. My daughter chose to forget about her years at St Kevin's and looked forwarded to her new school. However, a friend told me about this site. When I read some of the feedback, I thought it was time to share.

I am so very happy with this school. Leaving public school last year with so much pain and disappointment, I didn't have much time to shop around for private schools so I just enrolled my kids in the one closest to my house. Thank the Lord I chose the right one or maybe HE led us there after so many days and nights of tear filled payers. Ms. D, our 3rd grade teacher is a perfect example of what a teacher should be. She is loving and caring and that is exactly what my very shy and sensitive child needed. My child became very lively, very talkative, smiling all the time and being playful. She also had major improvements academically, which I think the fun, loving and comfortable environment the class offered had a lot to do with. I could not be any more satisfied with the school. There are no words to describe how wonderful Ms. D is, and not only my child but I will also remember and keep in our hearts the most incredible teacher that we were so blessed to have met. My family thanks you Ms. D for a wonderful year, and God bless you and your family.

St. Kevin Catholic Academy is a terrific school! We are new to the school and the 4th Grade teacher is wonderful. She really teaches the children to be independent learners. The kids are learning to focus on the bigger picture, content and details. My child has improved one whole grade in math. The kids are friendly to newcomers, and the parents embraced us right away and we are Christian, but not Catholic. We don't feel excluded in any way. The orchestral music/strings program is excellent and my child is enjoying the violin. This school is truly a hidden gem!!

I would really like to respond to the person(s) who made a comment about going to public school and basically said public school is easier. I went to SKS myself and have plenty of great things to say about that school, i absolutely loved it and have made some long lasting friendships throughout my time there. However, I am now a New York City public school teacher and to be completely honest the students in the public school system are getting a by far better education than I got. As teachers we are expected to make sure every student learns by any means necessary. Again i LOVED my teachers at SKS but I feel the same was not expected from them and it was more of this is how I teach now you learn it this way.
