This school sucks. I have a daughter that goes here and has a 504 plan and the teachers there don't care about it. The teachers don't give her extra time on her assignments like the 504 plan says and the teachers keep giving her homework. My daughter had also asked for a break and the teachers said no she has to wait and the next time she went to ask they said no again. My daughter also was being bullied and she told the school but the school put the problem away just acting like it didn’t happen. I’m so unhappy with this school they are very unsanitary and they serve food cold it is so unexceptable. My daughter got sick from the food and then i found out she got food poisoning from the school. I’m so mad. Another thing is how the teachers have pride flags in their classroom but the princable that looks like Willie Wonka is homophobic and she does not let people be gay or anything. They also have pride flags in every classroom but the thing is why is there pride flags if the princable is homophobic?!? Like what?!?!?! I’m so glad my daughter is leaving this school. This school needs to be shut down immediately.

I'm disappointed in the lack of caring from the administration as this school is run by the students. There are some wonderful teachers, but they are often railroaded by the administration and/or other teachers who have been there forever, when speaking up for what's best for students. The administration likes to put issues (some very major issues) under the rug to put on a good face for the community, when in reality, it's a hot mess inside the school. The students and the staff who are there for the right reasons deserve so much better, and many staff and students/families end up leaving to find another school - because in this case, the grass is greener on the other side.

I would like to start this off by mentioning I use to be a student at coal ridge and I don’t recommend this school because…You could get bullied and get threats said towards you and anytime you mention it to a teacher or one of the people in the front office they would do NOTHING about it,No matter who you take it up to,Multiple times I mentioned something to the vice principal and she did nothing,The teachers there was a few kind teachers but they left the year I did,But several of the teachers would pile work on top of you making you fall behind with several others and you would start to fail the class and he never you try to reach out for help to the said teacher they ignored you.But it’s mostly the bullying that happened at the school I got a rape threat and I got threatened with a weapon at the school. My friends and I got food thrown at us Constantly and we told several teachers about it and nothing was done and we even mentioned it to the principal nothing was still done about it.and there was several fights throughout the year at most I’ll say like 12 probably more happened So for your child’s safety and mental health don’t bring them here!

This school honestly sucks. this school clearly does not care for their school’s wellbeing, education and safety. To begin this review, I’d like to talk about safety. There have been multiple fights that I saw. One being a girl beating another girl while a teacher stood by watching. The only effort the teacher made to stop the fight was by saying “go to class”. This school does not care about bullying. There are no consequences, instead, they care about silencing students. Next up, I feel that the students well-being is not being nurtured the way it should. When you tell someone you have depression, instead of trying to help you, they feed into your mental issues. They promote wrong ideas especially ones that should not be discussed in a classroom environment. In one of my classes, I had a very unprofessional teacher who started off the year saying that she had depression, anxiety, and other mental issues. These are things you probably shouldn’t start off the year with. She had multiple conversations about sexual identity and orientation that were usually unwarranted. She had multiple pride flags hung around the classroom and constantly pushed being lgbtq+. Even from the perspective of a student, these are unprofessional topics and should not be taught in school, especially when most kids were simply coming for educational purposes. My last topic is the obvious lack of care for the students. Most of the teachers simply do not want to be there, and frankly cannot control even their own students. Overall, I would absolutely not recommend this school. It is blatantly a terrible school that has warranted mental issues in me that I simply did not have before. I honestly hate this school and I will probably switch schools.

It's absolutely horrible. My daughter has a 504 and not a single teacher followed the accommodations laid out. Her math grade raised from a D to a C and they wanted to cut off her additional support. Physical altercations between students are a weekly thing. Bullying is horrific and my daughter felt as though no one liked her. Books with cursing and graphic sexual content are readily available in the library as well as classrooms. There are no real consequences for the children allowing them to continue bad behavior. They have completely lost control over their students and just say what needs to be said to smooth over bad situations. I'm glad we pulled our child from this school. The school and the district should be ashamed of themselves for allowing this to continue.

Awful! Do not go here!! Some teachers are great but some just don't care. The principal just cares about keeping situations that are problematic quiet. The students are mean to the teachers and absolutely disrespectful. They have lost control of their students and there is no integrity at all!!

This school has improved A LOT over the last few years. My daughter is advanced and has been sufficiently challenged. Parents also need to make sure their child is being challenged and that classes are suited to their needs. They have multiple extra curriculars to choose from. Sometimes I think the midnight homework deadlines are difficult, but my daughter is never bored.

This school provides multiple activities for all students in the way of music, sports, clubs, etc., so students can engage their particular passion.Bottom line, Coal Ridge is essentially the 1st of two choices for district public middle school in the area.

People, you need to be up-to-date! Problems from previous years have cleared up since a local K-8 opened a few years ago. This took a lot of problem kids out of Coal Ridge, and not only is there a lot more space to get around, but teachers are able to do more because there aren't problems with kids anymore. Now they can actually teach. Overall, it's a better atmosphere for everyone. My second child is there and is having a better experience than the first one did, who was there before the other school opened.

So much bullying in this school. When it's not just the students bullying but the teachers but let it happen. The staff seem to only talk bad about the kids. One of them has called a student the b word behind their back while talking to another teacher during a 8th grade volleyball game. One of the worst school I have seen by far.

We love Coal Ridge. The principal is very approachable and eager to help the students. I'm excited for my second child to start there. We feel our kids are getting a great education.

I am extremely unhappy with Coal Ridge Middle. My daughter was previously an honor student and since the beginning of this year she has been failing at least 1 class, she hates going to school and is so lost we had to hire a tutor. All except two of her teachers prove daily that they could care less about whether their students learn anything or not. She absolutely LOVES her Advanced History and Orchestra teachers and is doing very well in both of their classes. The rest of them consistently lose homework that she has turned in or flat out say they never received it and lower her grade (this happened with an assignment I watched her complete). The teachers do not contact us when they should regarding missing work or failing grades we have always had to be the ones to reach out to them when we are concerned. They are late to update Infinite Campus and most of them do not update their websites we have very lackluster resources, although it seems to me they are relying too much on technology. I regret sending my her to this school, these teachers don t have passion for what they do; to them it s simply a job that allows summers and spring break off with the possibility of tenure.

I believed when my kids started here that it was a school that was turning the corner from a bad school to a good one. That is unfortunately not the case. There are good people at Coal Ridge, in the administration and the faculty, but not nearly enough. The poor teachers outnumber the good ones by a great deal. The teaching staff seems to be made up of young teachers waiting to get out of there and go to somewhere else, or burnouts just waiting to hit retirement age. We had multiple instances where the teachers blamed my kids for losing homework that they had turned in. I could see maybe one kid doing it, but both? The principal is a nice guy, but seems to have no control over his staff. Finally, there are the kids. I don't want to talk poorly about one particular group of kids, but there is one particular ethnic group that seems to have no interest in anything except being wannabe gangsters, thugs, and criminals. They disrupt the entire school, and the teachers and administration seem powerless to get them in line. I know that if I had known earlier, neither of my kids would ever have entered those doors.

Sent my daughter here against my better judgement because her friends were attending. She went from loving school to hating school. The teachers are incompetent, irresponsible, and a down right joke. Save your kids and send them to Mead Middle, where education is valued. Here are just a few examples that we had to deal with on a regular basis: 1. The teachers would lose homework consistently, have your child make it up at a lower grade because it was late and then find the original homework, while they blamed the kids the whole time. Never took responsibility for their errors. 2. Teachers were always late entering homework into Infinite Campus. They expect the parents to be diligent about watching for missing homework and grades, yet they are not responsible for entering the grades on a timely manner. Again, these were just some of the issues that we brought up over and over again with teachers and the principal and yet they did nothing to fix it. I will not be sending my daughter to this school again, because I value education.

My kids attended this school for one year. They both failed their grade. These are kids who always succeeded before. They became depressed and were upset by the drugs, low morals, lack of administration involvement, etc. I was so disgusted, I pulled them from public school and put them in online public school. They learned nothing at Coal Ridge, except that the administration, teachers and bullies did not care about them. One teacher threw my child's backpack across the room. They called my children "bad". My children were attacked and I was not even told, called, and there was no follow thru. Terrible place. These are children who did very well previously and were known and loved by the school staff and teachers from the school they attended before Coal Ridge. Just a bad, bad school.
