There is a culture of bullying at this school. School staff just tells the students victimized to have "grit" whatever that means. There's a lot of hazing. Seems more like a marine boot camp than an elementary school. We're looking for different options next year.

Great staff and great experiences. Even though the building is old, the community inside it makes the kids feel at home. I wish we could have this building for all the grades!

My two boys attended this school and had a great experience. The principal at the time, Mrs. Fox, was great and we have nothing but good things to say about her. The academic side of the equation was excellent. I am so impressed with the knowledge my kids learned. I work in software engineering and I do wish they would ramp up their technology programs as those resources could use it. Their text books are also ancient and need updating; however, that is suppose to happen now that a property tax increase passed. We'll see if they deliver on that commitment. Despite all this my kids received a great education and I'd send them to this school again in a heartbeat. I was also impressed with their challenge program that one of my boys was in as it was top notch.

We moved to Edwardsville specifically for the schools and have not regretted a single minute. Having gifted children can be as challenging as having a special needs child. This district and this school have stepped up to the plate and offer curriculum and teachers with the training to handle both. I am amazed at the support and extra thought given to challenging gifted students while also teaching to the entire classroom at the same time. Great job!

The teachers and staff are excellent at Woodland Elementary. They promote participation and involvement of the family in the students education.

I was surprised to see the ranking of Woodland when searching school reviews. Edwardsville SD is by far the most equipped SD within 30mi of Edwardsville. Not only are the schools consistently excelling in sports and competitions, but the amenities the are unsurpassed. The tutoring (including speech pathology) is free, the PTO is loaded and puts the money to excellent use, bullying is nil. The principal is very nice and attentive, giving prompt individual assistance. My son's 3rd grade teacher initiates communication via phone and email, promptly, about my son's progress and any concerns regarding slight changes in behavior. The school has a extremely resourceful website (see: http://www.ecusd7.org/woodland/) and a separate website from which parents may review their child's progress. This school is why I am on this site looking for something comparable when I move. Any parent considering the area, you will love the schools!
