The Edison location is an extremely cold & competitive environment in which the students are looked at strictly by their performance (scores) rather than as individuals. There is zero social emotional learning here; perform to the highest standards (all of which fail to acknowledge mental health, personal circumstances & significant life events) or get pushed out with a scarlet letter branded to you. The other ‘magnet’ / vocational schools within district have strong feelings about the way that MCA has the pompous mentality that they are elite & everyone else beneath them. Hidden behind high test scores and beautifully impressive state & national rankings, this school is not all that it presents to be. Many alumni did not succeed in successful engineering careers & had to change course entirely after graduating; an environment that promotes favoritism based on test scores rather than passion for the field leaves many to fall flat once they are in the real word. The school has also become FAR from diverse as you will quickly notice upon touring during school hours; if you don’t fit the mold you’ll spend your 4 years feeling inadequate on a daily basis. Many high schools now offer the ability to earn college credits- the only appeal here is that the building is physically located on Middlesex County College campus making it most accessible for taking additional classes & the use of college levels facilities (such as for fitness being that MCA doesn’t have a gym). However, from a safety perspective, having access to a college campus at age 14 also presents many safety concerns; using the same locker rooms as adults who could be 5x your age, having the ability to roam freely among a large multi building campus with said adults, etc. If you’d like your child to abandon their youth entirely & be a college groomed robot then by all means this is the place for them. If you’d like your child to be educated in an environment that promotes both personal & academic growth, steer clear of MCA.

Honestly, I've seen better teaching. The students do perform well, but mostly because the parents are driven. .It's located in North Edison which has something of a stigma in many circles. I guess it really depends on your perspective.

very successful school in a perfect neighborhood in the prestigious north edison school district. builds great character in students and offers great education in a competitive environment.top ranked.

I have two children that were accepted to the school. One has since graduated and is going to a top college and the other will be graduating in a month. The school is a close knit environment that is very competitive. It is not a good fit for everyone, and was the same situation for my two. One loved it, and the other did not. However, the education is great, and the workload is tough. I was pleased, though, that both of my children did well there, and the school opened many doors for them. The administration is very supportive of students and their families.

My son went here for 2 months. Overall it is a good school but it gives students such a heavy workload of homework. My son everyday would stay up till 12/1 working on projects and papers. Pretty good school i guess but I had to remove my son. He was unhappy and it was such a heavy workload with no guarantee as to what college he would go to i the future. Also, many of the teachers are extremely biased.
