I attended Southview Middle School for 3 years and will say it's a pretty good school. There is actually some fun classes and a lot of the teachers are really nice and friendly, there's only a few I wasn't a fan of. There's actually a lot of different classes you can take as electives especially in 8th grade and teachers are almost always there when you need support. Bullying for me was a little bit of an issue but it wasn't too bad. I recommend.

Our experience. I have primary custody of my son due to the father's mental health concerns. The FIRST week of school, my son didn't return home from school. I contacted the principal on day 2, and he didn't respond in any way, when I asked to meet or discuss why a stranger took my son out of class that day. The 5th day, I got the school police officer. The leaders at the school completely ignored my concerns about his father taking him. I do not beat my kid and there was zero evidence that I did. I get all the other positives about the Edina school district, so I am not arguing that. However, if you cannot trust primary caregivers, think logically to keep a child safe from an untreated mentally ill adult, and base decisions on evidence...WOW. I will note that they may have acted due to an overzealous Hennepin county CPI but be courteous and communicative. A dad coming from several states away, canceling all the kid's activities, not paying for his food, should be a sign to listen to the mother who put him at #15 for contacts. You better hope the child is alive after this, but where was that mental health knowledge and support for families. Yikes.

I go to South View Middle School. And they foster Safety, Learning, and Respect as their core-values. It is Safety, Learning, and Respect, everyday in every way! Dr. Anderson, the principal is nice and stands for no bullying. High recommend.

The Orchestra and Band programs are exceptional. The advanced Reading (gifted ed) and the advanced math classes are great. So is fine art and the performing arts extracurriculars. Too much time is spent in a period called "flex" which takes time away from other subjects. There are some very short class periods which is challenging for kids to learn in that time (a little over 30 minutes).

I love south view. There are so many languages you can take, clubs you can join, and all in all the community is amazing. Everyone's welcomed, and the curriculum is diverse, and easy to learn with the great teachers.

I am in my first year at South View and it's great. The staff made the tough transition from Elementary School to Middle School a breeze. I wouldn't want to go anywhere else. I have learned a lot, and the staff is so nice and supportive. I love all of my teachers and classes. This is a great school and I am so excited for my next 3.5 years here. - a student

Great, but Short-changed by Superintendent & School Board: The principal & teachers are superb. They listen and resolve any issues with competence. My child has learned more than I can believe. My only concern is that funding can be tight. Meanwhile, many families are from the city of Edina but not the Edina school district. They want a district boundary change so their property taxes can go to Edina schools, but people at the district level won't support the issue. The funding shortage means kids at this school need to bring many classroom supplies from home and pay out-of-pocket for all activities, field trips, special programs, etc. It's still a great school though.

This school is fabulous. The students are kind and caring, and many teachers are extremely charismatic to students and parents. A few problems that could be adjusted are cliques, pranking, minor bullying, and speaking put more during LGBTQQA month. Overall, this school is excellent, especially in education of gifted students. -A Student

The principal is creative, hard-working, innovative and an excellent listener. The teachers are some of the best. My only complaint is that there are cliques in the lunchroom. A handful of popular kids cuts in lines and excludes the majority of other students from sitting near them. It would be nice if kids sat according to the class that they just came from, or if once per week there would be a mix-it-up Monday, or something like that. Kids would verbally complain, but I think that they would feel some relief "on the inside."

you learn a lot, but many of the staff for special education were less than kind if one of the kids corrected them or didn't want to do something. instead of helping them, they would usually send them to the office for "tone of voice issues." the students are somewhat rude (like a lot of students all over), and some of the teachers are less than understanding too. I would say it was a bit overstaffed, and the teachers seem to not care about a few things.
