My son attended Wilson now Nette Shultz graduating from it the year of the name change. He had dsylexia and is slightly on the Autistic Spectrum. It was a hard slog. In general his teachers were top notch, but as is the case ...a few bad apples. He did well in kindergarten and then got into first grade where his teacher a wisened old veteran who clearly retired on the job. He learned nothing that year and grew to loathe going to school. His second grade teacher, Mrs. Smith was one of the highlights of the school. She figured out he was dyslexic --- something his first grade teacher should have suspected. I had put him in sylvan and they tested and confirmed it. Once he was taught how to handle Dyslexia he did better in school, but he was about a year behind for several years due to the lost 1st grade year. I had a private tutor (a special ed teacher from another school) tutor him for an hour a week every summer for 5 years to catch him up with his class. Most of his other teachers at the school were solid, but he did have another dud teacher before he got out who made a point about Student responsiblity --- basically her way of covering not wanting to reach the standard of the other teachers. My son went on to Strickland Middle school and is now an A&B student in high school taking an honors course in science every year. Most of his success is due to the majority of teachers at now Nette Shultz who were soild, if not strong teachers. My two cents though are if you get a line of poop about teaching your kids personal responsibility at the start of the school year, try to get your kid into one of the other classes. That is a teacher that will let your kid sink and never communicate his struggles to you.

My expience was horrible, its like all the fun was sucked out one student at a time my teacher is awful and made my entire class cry. They don"t have any holiday parties and even the fall carnival feels miserabale.

First rate- I bought a house in the neighborhood based on the amazing experience we had at Woodrow Wilson welcoming my then shy kindergartner as part of the Wilson family. We’ve now had a child enrolled there for 15 consecutive years. My youngest moves to middle school in fall ‘19. I will miss the amazing kids and staff tremendously. Best school experience of my life.

Given limited state and federal resources, this school provides an above average education for a very diverse population. I believe the schools goals are in line with providing a solid education to all children so as to make well educated, informed citizens who will be the backbone of our democracy.

My daughter is 11 and Wilson is our neighborhood school. She went there for first grade and it was a miserable experience. There were 13 in her class and 1-2 student teachers, in addition to the main teacher. My daughter was very quiet and reserved, she was afraid to approach the teacher. We asked the teacher to make adjustments to help with her anxiety, but she did not. She said my daughter was just passive aggressive. My daughter was 6. We even had a 504 on file addressing her anxiety and learning differences, but this was not followed. After several meetings with the counselor and assistant principal and teacher, it became very apparent the leadership was more interested in supporting this teacher and her negative teaching practices than creating an environment that made my daughter feel safe or able to learn. I know of at least six families who left this school after being in this teacher's class. It is truly shameful the experience we had at Wilson, and none of my children will attend there again.

We had Mrs. Cheek as a Kindergarten teacher. She was wonderful as was the entire staff of the school. My daughter really enjoyed going to school everyday. Very impressed. A great school that is known for excellence.

Wonderful school. My two kids attended, and my youngest will be in 5th grade next year. I'll honestly be quite sad when he graduates because I'll miss the dedicated staff, amazing teachers, and thoughtful administrators. They suffered a terrible blow when the funding for Texas schools was cut. They had to let go many teachers and morale suffered a lot. Still a great place but would be so much greater with adequate funding--probably true for all Texas public schools though. The parents of Wilson students tend to be very involved and supportive of each other and the school.

My daughter is in 1st grade of the Dual Language program at Wilson. While she doesn't seem to be absorbing much Spanish, she does love school, and is already reading chapter books independently. Her teachers have all been wonderful, very impressive. She is also in the gifted and talented program, which is fantastic. We moved to this neighborhood primarily so that she could attend this school, and I do not regret that decision.
