Tutors are in high demand because students are struggling with lessons provided. Canvas optional so rarely updated and teachers do not honor 504 plans. If you want your child to succeed do not put them in DJUSD unless you are a full time parent, can afford quality tutors and willing to teach your child at home.

This school was amazing and a grewat school to go to in davis!
I'm a 7th grader at Holmes, and I'm in the 2021 - 2022 school year. So far, Holmes has been a wonderful school. All my teachers are great, and my classmates are nice as well. The teachers I have give out homework well, and there's a code called P.R.I.D.E., for Prepare, Respect, Integrity, Diligence, and Empathy. This develops good character in students. I have not been bullied, but there have been a few fights. Holmes has a GREAT orchestra program, with the Intermediate Orchestra (7th grade) and Advanced (8th and 9th grade) both being conducted by none other than Angelo Moreno. Angelo Moreno also conducts three orchestras at Davis High School, the Symphony, Baroque Ensemble, and Chamber Orchestras. His teaching method is effective and I can feel myself improving under him. Mr. Bryant, an English teacher, offers a very colorful experience. His lessons on Fridays about philosophy are thought-provoking, and the classroom experience is very unique and positive. The homework workload is very fair in my opinion, and I deal with it just fine. Overall, Holmes has been an amazing journey and I would TOTALLY recommend this school to anyone.

The only good people are the cross country coach Mr. Nush and the yard duties.

I cannot speak for the experiences of the current students but this is my experience from the late 2000s. My grades were average/good, and I was blessed with some fantastic math teachers (and math is not my favorite subject), but unfortunately I also came across some truly bad apples in other areas. To be clear, it was long term, trusted teachers who humiliated me in front of my peers. This was not punishment for wrong doing—I was a quiet, well-behaved student—they were just mean. As I get older, I look back in awe at the sheer immaturity and unprofessionalism displayed. Playing favorites, snarky comments, sarcasm, cruelty. Most devastating was the lack of support. I became afraid to ask for help.

Holmes is so far the best Jr. high in Davis, but we are disappointed to see it getting worse.

I agree with the last parent comment. My children have come home crying almost everyday because they feel that they do not fit in and they are being bullied. I have brought this up to the principle and vice principle and nothing has happened. my children are getting notes in their lockers that are calling them inappropriate language. I am transferring them to Harper Jr. High. That is a good school.

Holmes can be a good school, but they do not communicate good with the students. They are good academically but not when it comes to students have problems with other students, teachers, etc. The councilors (psychiatrists) are not that great either, they simply cannot solve the children's problems but think they can. I do not recommend this school, they give to much homework compared to many other schools. And this is an average school. I have had my kids come home crying and end up eating by themselves because of the teachers and students there. Like I said I DO NOT recommend this school, I am transferring my kids to another school. The teachers pick favorites, and many kids smuggle and sell drugs there. It is NOT a good school. All the other schools in davis are WAY better, kinder, safer, more including, and I love the other schools, that's where I'm putting my kids.

Holmes is an all-around excellent school. The academics are top notch--as one would expect in Davis. Teachers are enthusiastic, give interesting assignments that require creative thinking, rather than rote learning. They offer several electives such as robotics/computer programming, multimedia, and art. However, there is a lot of homework. I've heard no complaints from my 8th grader about bullying. The kids seem nice. This is a well-run school.

I moved to davis in 8th grade. The counselor at Holmes sent me to a phycologist because he didn't believe my description of my previous school. He didn't think any school could be that bad. I soon came to realize that Davis schools were so much better than other schools, that many staff and students simply didn't understand how good they had it. They lived in a happy fantasy. I moved back to Davis after going to college out of state so my kids could attend Davis schools. My Holmes experience was that good.
