This school has a principle who has shown extremely poor judgement. She has physically restrained students in second grade. She is inept and incompetent and a danger to students.

I loved this school when my children went to it...

I have had a very positive experience, at Winfield. I feel like the principal has a very personal approach with the students. She seems to know each student, personally, as well as the parents. The administration and the faculty are very helpful and rsponsive. I also feel that they all do a great job, making sure that the parents are well informed. I have recommended for many of my friends to relocate, to take advantage of the benefits of Winfield and the Crown Point School System.

Amazing. When we moved here from Ohio 2 years ago, our biggest deciding factor on where to live was school district. CP has a great overall district and we were lucky to end up in Winfield. We felt welcome from day 1. Every teacher and staff member is outstanding and truly works hard to make every student's learning experience positive. From the clubs to be involved in, to the volunteer opportunities and just day to day interactions, we could not be happier with Winfield Elementary.

Winfield is a such a wonderful school! The teachers and staff work hard to make it a friendly, safe environment for students to learn.

Winfield is an outstanding elementary school. I really like how it is organized as a K-2 school. I think this gives kids a great start to school in a less intimidating environment. I think it is probably more work for the school staff, but something I think benefits the kids. This is something else I like about Winfield. The staff - teachers, principal, support staff are all willing to work hard and not take short-cuts when it comes to helping kids learn and what is best for them. The school believes it is a partnership between the school and family. I have had a kid that was accelerated attend this school as well as two other children that I would describe as "middle" level kids and the school helped all three of them achieve tremendously and formed a partnership with us at home to maximize each child's potential. In addition, we value the emphasis the school helps promote character traits in our children as well. Finally, we appreciate as a family the partnership the teachers and staff have formed with us to help us raise nice, smart, respectful, and hard-working kids.

We only attended this school for one year due to my husbands job in the military. I had my kids in the public school system for over 8 years all throughout the states and I must say that during our short time in Winfield, nothing compares to this school! Mrs. Alonzo the principal is outside everyday greeting the children in the car rider line and making sure everything is running smoothly. She takes the time to reach out to the children and truly makes a difference! Mrs. Kosiba was our Kindergarten teacher, EVERYONE needs a Mrs. Kosiba in their school! It takes a very special person to be a teacher let alone a Kindergarten teacher, she was absolutely amazing! My daughter learned more from her than she is right now at another Indiana school as a 1st grader. She is above average at her current school due to what she was taught at Winfield. Mrs. Kosiba is so organized, on point with her teaching, kind hearted, patient and a wonderful person all around. I wish all schools could be like this one! Great, great, great school!!!!!

Im giving this school two stars because of the principal and secretarial staff. The teachers my children have at this school are amazing! Unfortunately when you walk into the office you are greeted by grouchy ladies and treated as an inconvenience. The principal is fake. She will smile but it's not real. She is head of the school and sets the tone. In my opinion she doesn't act or look professional. This school also doesn't follow the bullying policy. This is a K-2 school why don't they have more time for arts and crafts, recess, and why can't the talk at lunch? Also they spend to much time on the computers and not enough time actually writting. My child's handwriting is horrible. Also when did music, gym and art become more than a participation grade? I don't think a child should be getting a bad grade in these subjects as long as they are trying. They didn't choose to participate in them. Some children are not athletic, artistic or musically inclined. This school does have after school clubs which is wonderful! They also need some new playground equipment. I guess they did get something new but the principal won't let the kids use it. I'm not sure why???

My son is a new student this year at Winfield. His teacher has made the transition such an easy one for us. I love that the parents have an opportunity to volunteer, as we did not have that coming from Lake Central School corp. With that, I have so much more knowledge about what's going on, what he's working on and what I can help out at home with. The computers are also new to us and that's just another great change we didn't have before. Overall everything has been great for us

The reviews talking about a wonderful principal are talking about the former principal. She was a fabulous, selfless woman. The new principal is exactly as another poster said "not as friendly as you think". She will smile and talk to you so saccharine sweetly while at the same time being fake and condescending. She is not proactive about bullying no matter what the policies say. Also, the school is disgustingly filthy. The bathroom facilities smell of urine all the time, to the point students will wait to use facilities at home rather than enter the disgusting bathrooms at school. You can often see feces that have been wiped on the walls of the stalls for days, weeks, and probably months. The male janitors enter the children's facilities at will, various times during the day without ensuring children (boys and girls) are not in there which is unacceptable. The annual lice outbreaks have been better controlled since more lockers have been added and students no longer are forced to share, but the school is small and overcrowded which complicates the issue. The "Crabby" secretary has retired, but a new rude and condescending one has taken her place. Nothing much has changed in the office, they bombard parents begging for volunteers and involvement, but then treat you like garbage when you come to volunteer. The teachers yell almost constantly and seem to take their frustrations with their boss out on the students which only creates anxieties about attending school in students Kindergarten-2nd where they should be taught to love school and enjoy learning, instead they are confronted with an overzealous principal looking for her next 15 minutes of fame and a curriculum that doesn't foster any creativity or enjoyment. The district has started a new computer-blended curriculum, and that is the only reason this particular school is getting 2 stars, otherwise it would get the bare minimum from me.

The teachers and staff are amazing! My son's first experience with Winfield was in speech when he was three years old. Everyone took the time to get to know him and show him the school. He's soon to be a second grader and loves school. He participates in the after school activities they offer and loves it! You know you have a good school when your child can't wait to go!

The teachers and staff are very effective at communicating the expectations and desires in regards to our child's educational goals and progress.

Winfield is an amazing school, each student is treated as an individual as well assessed frequently. Safety is a top priority as well as creating an environment that fosters great learning as well as a family friendly school!!! We have been in the school for 2 years- we love every staff member!!! We have always been treated with respect, kindness and courtesy!! Mrs. Alonzo is a great leader establishing a greater school for even greater possibilities that are endless!!

Both my sons attend Winfield and I have had nothing but great things to say. My sons have both done extremely well while there.

My son is 13 now but he went to winfield when my son was in 1st grade. I didn't know it at the time but my son had a food allergy that's why he was acting up in class. principal told me off in front of all the class which she shouldn't of did and the principal went in classroom and ask what kind of trouble josh got into today. to me that is on called for saying that. I told that her off and I told her if you want to continue this fight we have to do it in the hall I refuse to fight with you in front of all these children. the principal should of got fired for treating me that bad I turned her in but state said she is allowed treat me that bad. she also held my son down when I first walked in the room and I told her off for that I said no one holds my son down and now i have to put him in homeschooling because you did this. the teacher held him down and she suppose to be special ed. teacher my son has a disability and even the nurse helped which I was suprised. I don't think you should hold any child down all three of them should of got fired but they didn't they kept there jobs and they are still there probably. it took my son year to get over that ordeal they caused.

Unfortunately we do not feel that the staff are as friendly as most seem to think, and my wife and I are probably not the only parents to feel this way. One of the secretaries is constantly crabby and rude (and probably should've retired already) and the principal is fake and condescending. The teacher our child ended up with this year is disorganized and forgetful. We wish our child's experience this past year would've been better, because they truly love to learn, but its been one disappointment after another with this particular school. When your child cries almost every single day because they don't want to go to school, you have to wonder why... We went into this school year prepared to volunteer and donate as much as we could, but have honestly been turned off from both altogether. We literally wanted to pull our child out the first month of school but didn't because we thought conditions would improve. Our mistake. We're giving the school 3 stars only because it's clean, it's in a good district, and has the potential to be better.

I only wish I could give this school more stars. My daughter has attended K-2 at Winfield and I can't think of any way the experience could have been better. The teachers have been attentive and wonderful. The principal is an extraordinary woman with heart and incredible knowledge. The staff she leads is exemplary. I feel confident my daughter has received the best possible elementary education in this school and she has a firm foundation for her additional years of education.

My daughter attends Winfield Elementary School. I have to say that I love this school. The teachers are awesome and go out of their way to make sure that the students enjoying learning. The office employees are the greatest they make you feel welcome when you visit and go out of their way to be sure that the school is a happy safe place to be. It is a very clean, very friendly place. What my daughter learned this year was far more than I could have imagined, and she loved every minute of it. oh and the principal is amazing, even I want to hug her. : )
