The staff and teachers are among the best of the best. My son is receiving an amazing education that has helped him overcome his dislike for school and helped him regain his self esteem and continues to grow everyday. We have been with the school for the past 5 years. Like anything in life you get what you put into it and you will always have someone that is not happy with the changes that are made. My special needs child is thriving and happy and in no way has he not gotten the education that has been promised to us. He will be graduating this year and going to college, when we were told many years ago that this was not possible. Keep up the good work and thank you.

This school used to be a wonderful place, when the founder Mrs Joanna Sappo, was running the school. She sadly has passed and the school was sold to a foreign businessman. The focus is no longer on Kids that learn differently, but on building an international student population. Most of their students are in the US temporarily and staying with host families. Since Mrs Sappo's passing there has been a complete overhaul of faculty and staff. People that were there for 20 years have been let go and replaced with brand new (this year) staff and administration. They spent over a month without a Regents Geometry teacher and the kids were "given the lessons to review on their own". The PE class consists of 10 Kids in a small gym playing "modified dodgeball". The office staff is uninformed and impolite. Their enrollment has dropped below 100 children (this includes all of elementary through high school). Unless there is a drastic change, this school is not going to make it.

Sappo School has a team of teachers who truly care about each and every student. Because of that, students are given an experience that they could not have gotten in a public school. I, myself, am a teacher at Sappo and know first hand how grateful students and parents are for their experience at Sappo School.

Sappo school should be a model for other schools. They get it!! One size does not fit all. Sappo School is a family and growing everyday. I've never met a parent who was not 100% thrilled that their child attends this school. It amazes me each year how the teachers and the administrators care and want each student to succeed. I recommend this school to any parent who wants a change.

Sappo School has been the greatest gift that we could possibly have given our son. He attended Sappo School from 2009-2016 and is now a Sappo Graduate. The small class size and amazing teachers have made my son a confident, amazing young man with a wonderful work ethic. His academic career has been life changing for our entire family. I can not recommend this school enough and share our experiences with everyone that we speak with. Thank you Sappo School for YOUR HARD WORK AND DEDICATION WITH OUR SON. He is living proof the school is successful. You are truly a cut above the rest.

Favoritism, lack of discipline in more ways than one, not a ton of involvement from numerous parties that should be. Could go on and on sadly.

My son has attended The Sappo School for 6 years and is doing fantastic. We are very happy with the school faculty and the administration. The smaller class size works well for my son. He is able to make friends, do great academically and not be distracted by too large a class size.

I have the pleasure of teaching Science at Sappo School. I came to Sappo after a few years in the public school setting. Getting to know my students, not only on an academic level, but on a social, behavioral and slightly personal level, helps me guide the curriculum to fit each and every student. I love Sappo School for allowing my academic creativity soar.

I Instruct the Computer Science STEM program at Sappo School. STEM provides students with the ability to explore science, technology, engineering and math by solving real-world problems. It is project-based learning approach designed to engage students in an investigative journey through authentic problems. Sappo School provides both a safe and motivational learning environment that I am proud to be a part of.

I have the pleasure of writing this review as a member of the faculty at Sappo School. Everyone has a deep understanding of the needs of the students, and the size of the student body affords the teachers the luxury of getting to know just about every child who attends. The director, Mr. Sauer, has never lost sight of the fact that he was once a classroom teacher, which is very important if a school is to run smoothly. I recommend that anyone who thinks he or she has a child who may benefit from this school, come on down! Carole Wilk

For the past three years my 10 year old grandson has attended SAPPO School. Four years ago, I was desperately looking for an appropriate school placement for my grandson. He was an insecure 2nd grader who was drowning academically and socially. It was heartbreaking to watch him turn into a frustrated, overwhelmed and at times angry child. Then I found SAPPO School. It was “Mr. Rogers” neighborhood: all smiles, calm and soft voices, and the most compassionate and. At my initial meeting with Joanne Sappo, The Director, I knew everything was going to be alright. I have never had one moment of regret over my decision. Every experience for him has been a positive. He started at SAPPO School at ground zero. Within six months he was a new child. He loved school and his teachers. He was happy. He was learning. The individual attention and nurturing that he received created a “new and improved” child. And he continues to thrive every day. SAPPO School has been more than an excellent academic educational experience. He is learning social skills. He is learning how to handle difficult situations. He is learning how to express his feelings and thoughts. He is learning life skills. It is how he learns that is important. It is his unique strengths and weakness, his needs, his communication abilities and his learning styles that are driving his educational plan. He has been treated with a high level of concern, caring and kindness by everyone involved – from classroom to office. The transformation has been remarkable. He has a positive attitude about himself, his classmates, his teachers and his accomplishments. He feels safe and secure in school. His future is now filled with possibilities, because of the dedication and devotion of all of the professional educators and staff at SAPPO School. The outcomes for him would be very different if he was not attending SAPPO School. How can I put a value on being able to watch him wake up in the morning - excited because it is a school day?If it were possible for me to design the “perfect” learning environment” for all children, I would not have to look any further than SAPPO School. The school has exceeded any and all of my expectations. It is the perfect fit for any child.

My granddaughter attended this school and soared academically, and most importantly, she developed such wonderful social skills. She graduated with high grades and was fully prepared for college. Her friends were really of the highest caliber. The best part was the quality of the teachers, who were so well trained in how to teach using something they call Sappo's Brain Work strategies. I have never seen anything like it! My children all attended the best private schools in the past and this one is really up there with the best! Actually, her mom is a teacher herself, so knew what school would be most effective, and she was right.

My daughter entered Sappo as a junior. She has ADD and a language processing disability. She was losing confidence and self esteem. She was passing all her regents classes but struggling and needed tutors to review the work. She will graduate in June and is a new person. She was accepted to many colleges and has decided on Cabrini college in PA. This school was worth every penny.

I have been teaching at Sappo School for several years now. Having come from a public school setting as a permanent substitute teacher and a leave replacement, I can tell you that there is a big difference. In public schools it is easy for a child to get lost in the crowd. And most children feel ashamed if they are having difficulties. They will sit quietly and try to just get by the best they can instead of seeking help. When you have 30+ students per class, it is easy for some to go unnoticed. In Sappo School, the class sizes average about 8 students per class. So not only can we see if someone is having difficulties we can also do something about it right away. The students are much more comfortable seeking out help as well. Knowing your student is the key. After all, it is all about them.

I started Sappo School back in 2008. Before it I wasn't sure I would go to college and my outlooks on the future were grim. One year there changed my whole idea of living a successful and active life. I currently just finished my first year of college and am looking forward to a great career.

The Sappo School......a hidden gem on Long Island. Mrs. Sappo and the teachers are wonderful and truly bring out the best in each student. Whether your child is in the private or special ed program they will thrive in this unique and nurturing environment. In our opinion, worth every penny!

My daughter is considered highly gifted, and she's received an excellent education at Sappo School. I can't say enough good things about this school--it's good for all kinds of students and respects each child's learning style.

My son recently started at Sappo and I cannot say enough good things about the program. My son had refused to do anything in school for the past several years. After only 2 1/2 months at Sappo he did more academically than he has in five years. It is because there program is designed to meet his needs and work around him not the other way around.

The previous review is not true at all! I am a high IQ student, who was part of the honor program at Sappo. While I was there I scored a 95 on my English Regents, 91 on English Regents and in the 80's for all the other ones. I went on to college and joined the honors program there and was part of the honors society. If Sappo wasnt teaching to high standards I would not be such a success today
