I stopped sending my kids here. They weren't learning nothing. Theyd be getting As and Bs but scoring very low on state tests. These teachers were giving good grades just so nobody would question them. That ain't teaching .

This school has great families and great staff. The staff really care about students and work together to help all kids. The scores have been going up for the past 3 years. This is a great place to be.

There's too much drama going on at this school. Teachers are miserable, the tension is felt as soon as you walk in. They're not giving students the best possible education, looks like they're just trying to survive. Accusations and investigations have skyrocketed. True or not, we may never know, either way it's not a good sign. The best teachers have left or are looking to leave, because of the toxic environment. Nobody there is committed to the school, believe me I've heard the staff. If you see any smiling new faces, they must be new and not know what's going on yet.

With the previous principal and her administration, our school made a lot of progress. Student achievement was soaring at every grade level. There was discipline and order in every classroom. The principal had a true "open door policy". Everyone who wanted to meet with her, would be listened to with respect. Walsh has not been the same. The LSC picked a new principal and in our opinion, they made a huge mistake in the person they selected. Unfortunately, my children as well as the other students, along with the parents and our community are paying the price for this. Student achievement is going down, there is no discipline, respect or order. Students do drugs and even hit the teachers and security. The new principal doesn't listen to ANYONE, not even to her own teachers. I'm looking for a new school for my kids.

I got 2 of my children in the special education program at this school. Don't really have too many choices since this schools got cluster program. They treat these babies real bad. Is like they second class citizens. I talk with them teachers, they too scared to do the right thing for the kids. See how they got too many sped kids for one person makes it dangerous. SECAs that are there for our kids be working in the office, helping the immigrants, and doing other jobs for the principal. That ain't right. Last week of school, all 8th grade teachers, students and principal took graduation picture together, yall gonna believe they left our 8th grade cluster program students out the picture? Nobody thought of them to invite them in . Too much goin on there but parents dont care

Awful school, used to be a great school, but not anymore. It's trash, drugs, violence, lack of teaching, and half the staff has left because of incompetent new admin... Ask around and you will find out.

I’ve attended Walsh as a child and now my children get to attend the school as well.

Love the teachers and staff! Everyone was so helpful and gave good directives and were all alert if you needed help or had any questions.

I was so surprised to see a low score for this school since it has improved SO much with the new principal. I just learned that the scores are based on the IAR test and CPS uses a different test to rate schools. This rating doesn't work for Chicago Schools. This school is a hidden gem!

I am giving John A. Walsh Math and Science Elementary School a 1 Starred Tier, since unfortunately there wern't any ZERO starred tiered options available on this survey. Just to be clear, My Stars are not geared in any way towards the Teachers at this school, the great educators that I've dealt with are absolutely amazing, but primarily on Principal Martin Ryczek who is suppose to be the man I trust to run the school, that "My Child" goes to everyday. My main concern is the ever so popular "safety issue" in essense to the Primary Children also know as Kindergarten. There have been several incidents that have been brought up to the attention of Mr. Principal and I as well as other parents who may not be as outspoken such as myself, due to a language barrier. We fear taking our beloved Children to school because of misconduct of "one" yes I said "1" student. It has been brought up to administrations attention, since the beginning of the school year. The bullying, hitting, pushing, screaming, punching, foul language, running around the classroom, no self control, mean demenor and above all "NO RESPECT" for the Teacher or other students safety in the classroom. No resolution has taken place, just empty promises "so-to-speak." It has gotten to the point where I am a very concerned parent and the question that has yet remained unanswered, by the Principal. What are you going to do about it? I frankly am tierd of hearing "all the run around answers" you can save that for "the one's that don't care" about their Childrens safety at school. My child has not been able to get the full value for his education due to the fact that there are multiple incidents with this same child that have gone unresolved BY ADMINISTATION. AKA "The Principal" at this school. This is why I give this school a 1 starred tier, which is actually very generous on my behalf. If you can avoid sending your child here, take it from me...please do, you will be doing them a great favor down the line.

Effective teachers who care about their students, great staff and Administration are reasons why Walsh School is the best in Pilson. During my career at this school I have seen many students who have left our school and became productive citizens in the community. Also our special education department has helped many students learn to read and further their abilities.

Great teachers who seem to care about the kids. More parents should get involved though. It seems that the same people always help out
