Faculty is largely great. Administration is above par. Discipline (admin) is terrible. On the surface, bullying and other common problems are not tolerated, as long as students are of the ‘right’ minority. Administration sides with one demographic often. ‘Assistant principal doesn’t like anyone that’s white or perceived as white’, quote from a Hispanic student.

Amazing and I love everything about it and how it is still growing.

We have been very pleased with South Loop Elementary School thus far. Our son has grown tremendously in the past two years. His teachers have been outstanding educators and communicators, keeping us informed and involved as parents. The school community is also wonderful, with frequent social events for the kids and for parents. We cannot wait to have our son enter the brand new building!

We are finishing up our 6th year at South Loop Elementary School. My son has loved every single one of his teachers (and so have I)! He is performing very well, has a solid respectful friend group, and is extremely happy. I don’t think anything can top that!!

Overall, this is a great school. I'm very happy with the education my kids have received at this school. They love their teachers and their friends. Parents are actively involved in making this a welcoming community. The drawbacks are the intense amount of homework piled onto the kids, even in the early grades, and the pressure to perform on standardized tests.

overall - very solid. Hoping that the transition to the 2 campuses will be helpful in giving the student body to really spread their wings.

We've been at South Loop for 5 years and have had only positive experiences with the teachers and leadership. A special shout out to the hard working parents at the school who are active, engaged and invested in making South Loop a wonderful school community.

Besides the homework factor, we have had a positive experience at this school. My son does struggle with the larger classrooms, however the teachers and leadership handled it perfectly, placing him in smaller focus groups which really helped. The community - parents, kids and teachers - are the best part of the school. It's a wonderful community that is very supportive of each other.

Excellent experience with South Loop Elementary. My 3 kids have been going there since KG and we are very satisfied with their knowledge level. It has a great diverse community, well involved in activities and volunteering and very supportive of the school.

This school has been home to my children and they have had wonderful, positive experiences. The school has a great parent community, teachers who are invested and challenge students, and administration who are receptive to the students' needs/challenges. Look at the test scores of the school and also learn about where the students go for their higher education and you will see why many at the school are happy and stay.

We have been at SLES for 3 years and have been incredibly impressed with the growth of our children, their high academic performance, their increase concern for environment and others, great awareness and interest in other cultures, and the opportunities they have for exploring other interests (chess, music, dance, STEM, robotics, etc). The community is strong and the school has a large number of active parents and guardians - which further strengthens all aspects mentioned above.

My experience at this school has been a rollercoaster ride of emotions and stress. Do not send your kids to this school if they've been raised to respect adults, be kind to others, and used to a structured environment.

Awful a nightmare if you can afford private school steer clear from this school Not to mention it is about to merge with another school and become over crowded because anybody can enroll their kid that boundary attendance area rule is a smoke screen.Getting a good calm classroom is like playing Russian Roulette! It all depends Favoritism on how frequently you can take off work and volunteer or whether or not you married well and you can afford to be a stay at home Mom and volunteer at the school for everything? Stay away if you want to raise a college graduate stick around if you want a high school dropout!

Because the principle has no experience , the admin team is extremely unprofessional, rude, and plays favorites among all- staff, teachers, students, and families.

Very mixed. We've stayed since kindergarten but have been ready to leave for 2 years because of how difficult it has been to get support around learning needs.

We are thrilled with the education our children are receiving at SLES. It's academically rigorous, diverse, and the leadership is strong. Teachers are caring and qualified. The students tend to be admitted to strong high schools in the city. It's a joy to interact with the other parents, all of whom are committed to public schools and want the very best for their children (as we all do). We made the right decision to send our kids to SLES.

My child has finished K-1st grade at South Loop and we couldn't be happier. The facilities are not great (but a new school is under construction) but the teachers have been superb. I can't say enough about how thoughtful they are about teaching. And I'm amazed at how they are able to treat each child individually despite large class sizes. The community of fellow parents are also supportive, open and friendly. Finally, the diversity is great as well.
