Absolutely atrocious learning environment. Guaranteed to find students smoking in the bathrooms. Teachers and staff are completely disrespectful, rude, and simply do not care about the health and well-being of the students. Only focused on academics. Students have reported a strong desire to transfer out due to a lack of actually learning anything. I transferred out 4 years ago and couldn't be more happy with my decision! I was bullied by staff members and students. I was treated differently from the other students which I didn't understand why. Possibly my disability and learning differences? Whatever the case may be my point remains.

Could be better for a neighborhood high school. The administration staff is a joke and the teachers simply don't seem to take their students seriously. This school is more concerned about the academics rather then the education or well-being of the student and that's a fact!

This school is bad, really bad! Please do not put your kids here. The school is huge and has many programs. However the teachers and staff members are rude, very rude! Especially the administration, they don't care. They are very disingenuous and show little to no effort in helping students' needs. When a child is there they will not be taken seriously. Also they have roaches and bad food. If you can place your kids somewhere else please do. I'm sure there are better schools out there.

I'm a 4th year teacher at Senn and have found my experience working here outstanding. First and foremost, the faculty has inspired me to learn and grow in ways that I didn't as a suburban teacher. We often discuss innovative ways to reach the students, and all my colleagues are student-centered--doing what they do every day to reach the students that would otherwise be marginalized. For the most part, my students arrive to class on time, ready to learn. As compared to my work in the suburbs, the students don't come with a sense of entitlement; they are grateful for the above-and-beyond effort that the faculty puts forth. I have a group of students that stick around after school that work with me on various projects, and most teachers do the same. I've had great experiences overall in my many years as a teacher, but Senn is the first school that has felt like a community with everyone playing his/her part to make the experience great across the board. The administration has been receptive to my ideas of developing new programs and curricula, always working with me rather than simply telling me what to do. This attitude has allowed the school community to flourish through mutual respect. They treat the students fairly, working toward the root of the problem that might cause unwanted behavior rather than simply being punitive. Best of all, Senn gets better and better every year. Trajectory is crucial because everyone here has a lot of fire in their bellies, working to do better than we did the year before. I'd highly recommend visiting Senn to see it for yourself on one of our shadow days or really any time.

The school teachers, facilities and the way of teaching are great. Especially teachers are more concentrating on students path of studying.

For starters, Senn High School has a aesthetic campus located in a safe, friendly neighborhood. A couple years ago, Senn was ranked among worst CPS Schools, but because of the new principal, Senn is now ranked among top CPS Schools. This new principal turned the school around and because of that Senn has improved alot over the years. At Senn, you have students from all different ethnic backgrounds, which is really nice, and two great programs: The International Baccalareaute (IB) Program and a Fine and Performing Arts Magnet Program. If you're in International Baccalaureate (IB), you can expect sleepless nights, overwhelming workload, and preparedness for college. Being in IB means you need to be committed to the program because it's ALOT of work. Senn Arts is a Fine and Performing Arts Magnet Program, and it's less intense and rigorous than IB. So if you want to take a easier route, I would recommend Senn Arts. But if you want to challenge yourself, then I would suggest the International Baccalaureate Program. This school is truly amazing, and it should not be judged by its old reputation. It's getting better and better over the years, and I have no doubt that it will be as good as Jones or other high ranked CPS Schools.

I just stumbled upon this website since I was looking for the # of students in our highschool, with how out of date these other responses are, I feel that it was my responsibility to formulate a more recent update on how the school has developed over the last few years. Firstly, Senn is most definitely not the school that it was +4 years ago. The new principle, Ms.Lofton has really cracked down on the more prohibited actions that used to happen around the school and has put all of her heart in making the school a proper learning environment. Examples of this new work environment are evident since there are tons of new groups sprouting up (Coding club, Robotics club, Debate team, etc.) revealing a more comfortable student body that is no longer paranoid to go their own way or carve their own path. I am proud to say that I am a member of 5 of the newer extra-curricular activities and a founder of two of them. Secondly, the issue of IB and regulars students differing greatly in their level of education is most likely still noticable though Ms. Lofton and her faculty are working harder every year to bridge this devide. If you're going to Senn for IB, I highly recommend it.
