Having been at the school for six years, I have seen the ups and downs. Throughout it all the commitment to the children, and spirit of love for the children from all involved (Admin, Staff, students, church) has been unwavering.A Rigorous curriculum, Salem does more with less. The growth not only academically, but spiritually as well at Salem is amazing. That is why a GREAT rating. They truly do nurture the whole child.

Salem Christian School has made huge improvements. The transitional staff from 2013/2014 ruined the school but our board quickly recognized their mistake and brought in our current principal in 2015 who actually has experience in education. Then great teachers were brought in. These teachers deeply care about each student. Your child will be loved and provided with a well rounded education. Salem has amazing parents. These parents work with teachers and truly care about their children education. Small classes has allowed the students to become like brothers and sisters while encouraging each other to learn. I'm really glad we didn't jump ship in 2014 and just trusted in God that things will be back to normal. My son graduated in 2016 and now my daughter is in PreK 3. I'm so blessed that my daughter is surrounded by Godly staff, Godly Parents, and Godly Children. She's learned so much in so little time. Thanks Salem for reinforcing how I'm trying to raise my daughter: To love God, To be a leader, to be humble and respectful, and to love while getting the best education possible.

Salem has hit some bumps in the road over the last year but it seems they are working hard and there is hope with an incoming new principal for the 2014-15 school year. I am a contractor who works with over 50 CPS schools and I can promise you that the grass is not greener in CPS. There is more effort in righting the ship here than you'll find in CPS. There may be some upset teachers, and you'd be upset too if your company was going through a major administration change, but the teachers still love the children and care enough for the school that they are willing to work through the issues. My son is in the Middle School. We were told when we enrolled a few years ago that the school teaches at a grade level above and we took them at their word. Last week he was helping the girl down the street (who is in his grade at his old CPS school) with her homework. She was learning things that he had covered last year and he was able to help her with questions she did not understand. I'll stick around through the issues if it means my child is getting a leg up. Bottom line, this is a great school that is working through a transition.

Salem Christian School in Chicago is a fantastic school. We have teachers who are passionate and go above and beyond at our school. Our students are on a path to become great contributors to this society who test well and are in the tops of their classes as they move on to high school and beyond. This is a gem in Chicago. It's a place we love and love to give back to.

Salem Christian school has small classroom environment which assists in individualized attention. Teaching is done in a loving and encouraging style, with highly trained and experienced teachers. Teachers are willing to give of themselves and time to tutor. Tutoring services are available as well. The children learn through engagement and are taught to think critically and look for solutions or ways something can be improved. I love that teachers are staff are in constant communication with you regarding the development and learning of your child. The school need additional rescources

Since I've moved over my daughter to Salem, I've seen TREMENDOUS growth in her spiritually, emotionally, and academically. You could feel the love and support that runs through that school. I text, call, and email with teachers and staff comfortably. They love my kids and I in turn love them for it. I'd recommend the school to anyone. Ad it stands, best in the city.

From the time my daughter has been at Salem I have seen great growth. Their curriculum is Christ-centered, challenging and innovative. The staff makes sure parents are well informed and always well connected to current school events and meetings. I love this school!

Salem is not just another school, they are a family. The school is Christian based and therefore its full of love and discipline. I don't have to worry about my kids being bullied, teased, or peer pressured into wrong doings. The teachers and staff are wonderful!

My son and I both love this school. My son is in kindergarten and his teacher is great. She is very encouraging and tells her students she loves them. My son has excelled in math and reading. They teach one grade level above most schools so my son is doing first grade work in kindergarten which is great. I'm already excited to see what is in store for next year. They have had some changed since my son started but it has all been for the best.

I'm writing in response to a previous reviewer to clarify that the "out of date" website has been updated and the school IS accredited and it IS mentioned on the website. Although the school is going through ups and downs and there are changes being made, this school and it's administration/teachers have been great. I have never felt so loved by my sons teachers/ school administration. This is my sons first year at Salem and he will be back next year!!

This school is awesome. Yes, they are going through some changes but they are much needed changes. We have established a very open and caring parent/teacher organization that has been thriving since it's inception. If you are looking for parent involvement or want to become an involved parent, meet us at our meetings and see exactly how well we work together for the progress of the school and the future of the children who attend. My child is growing personally and spiritually. The teachers are great as they are there because Salem is their CALLING. This school is FINALLY full of the love of Christ and it shows in how The Lord is blessing the school and those within it. If you haven't given Salem a try, you should come in and judge for yourself.

I have two children who attend here and academically are way above standards. A great value for the price, including the enrichment programs and individualized attention. Many small Christian schools are stuggling; Salem definitely has odds to overcome but is heading in the right direction. Kids are kids anywhere, but teacher and admin staff commitment are outstanding.

I have a pre-schooler at the school. I am impressed with the partnership between parent and teacher in the development of my child's education. She is reading and has developed individually leaps and bounds. She enjoys going to school and learning, to me that says a lot. We the parents need to be involved in the education of our children. The school is not perfect. Management needs improvement and the school needs to grow, however, what I see in my child's learning leads me to believe this school is very good in academics. The school does not have the extra's that are offered elsewhere. It is a small private school, but that is also why we chose it. Faith based and solid education.

Unfortunately this school's principal has resigned. She decided to resign the first week of school in fall of 2013. The leadership of this school is in shambles. The school is NOT accredited through ACSI. If it is accredited through another organization, it has not been communicated to the parents, nor is it posted on our out-of-date website (another glaring sign of poor management). Poor management is poor leadership. One of the writing prompts for rating this school is, "What would you tell your best friend if he or she were interested in sending a child to this school?" It's painful to say this, but I would would say, "Don't bother. You can do better elsewhere."

I m a parent with kids at Salem. Here s the grade I give the school: Leadership C- (Below average). Teachers B (Above average). Extracurricular opportunities (I m including band/music program, gym/sports) D (below average). Christian environment A (above average). Overall grade for the school a C minus (C-). The leadership and principal have failed the parents and the students. The principal has not done her best in managing the school, and the board has not done its best in its oversight of the principal and school management. The school is chronically plagued with low enrollment and as a result has been operating in the red for many, many years. A local church who operates the school has financially bailed out the school many times. Like any school, there are good and not so good teachers. But overall the teachers care for their students. This shows. I m sorry they suffer the consequences too with such low salaries. I m a tough grader, and I d give the school 2.5 stars, but I can t. But I wouldn t round up to 3 stars it s not an average school it s below average thus the 2 stars. I ll be surprised if the school is still in operation 2 years from now.

My children graduated from Salem Christian school and were well prepared for High School, not only academically , but were taught character values and good morals. The teaches were caring and very dedicated to developing students to their full potential.
