This is a great school, and the teachers and principal seem to be extremely involved in effective results delivery. The parents are also very active. We have a first grader, and he is learning more things than I did in 5th or 6th grade. And he loves going to school most of the time. He is not as infatuated with his teacher this year, but it is her first year in the school and may take some adjusting. I attended on of the coffee with the principal meetings which was focused more on testing, however it was a very open forum with lots of access. The students put together a wonderful International program featuring all nationalities in which students were ethnically engaged. Academic achievements are emphasized, but so is the expectation of the kids, so the testing should not be intimidating. However, a lot of attention is placed on it, so I can't see how it wouldn't be. Fortunately, our boy is very smart, although stubborn, and sometimes knows more than the teacher or his parents. We are adoptive parents and much older, so when he challenges a man with three degrees, including a Ph.D., it is eye-opening. I think it might be hard for a less fortunate or challenged young boy or girl. The teacher does have the class work together daily for some time with students of equal levels, so I found that a good method of keeping things moving is not just focused on the more or less advantaged. I give it an A.

Old Providence Elementary won the BEST ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN CMS AWARD IN 2023. 6 out of 10? BAH! Utter nonsense. OP has some of the best, most dedicated teachers of any school I've ever engaged with. My daughter is in the 3rd grade, and is excited to go to school every day. I am not sure what the agenda of this "non profit website" is but the score on OP couldn't be more incorrect.

This school usually ignore many emails and only reply to what is needed. The mail is coercive and written in a disrespectful way. They have no consideration for the socially underprivileged, and the desk staff are very unfriendly. Teachers are enthusiastic and friendly. other staff are much of discrimination and disregard for the kind that does not benefit you.

My 4th grader has attended OP since K. From the very first day I was able to tell how much administrators, teachers, and staff care for their students. This school has gone above and beyond just following laws in accommodating both my child’s medical and academic needs. He is striving and I couldn’t imagine a better school for him.My only regret is that my other child is at a different school to attend a magnet program (love the magnet program, miss the school).

My oldest started kindergarten in 2021, still pandemic time. Even they had to wear masks and all the health and safety protocols, teachers and the entire staff at OP were committed to give kiddos the best experience. They had to adapt a lot, they were flexible and always prioritizing well-being of the entire school community Teachers and admin staff are just awesome! This year has been even better we the more in person interactions. So many opportunities to engage with the school, parents and volunteers and getting to know the community.

OP is the best! We have an older child who went all the way through and is now in 8th grade and a current 3rd grader. The best teachers, staff and admin. They listen and they want to help EVERY student grow. We love OP!

Both of my boys attended. Amazing school and teachers. Both had attended other schools prior. We moved to this district based on a house build. Glad we did. Couldn’t imagine them attending a better school.

I can't say enough good things about OP. Principal Johanson knows every childs name. Her main focus is always on SAFETY and what is best for the children. As a mom on the PTA, I sit in those meetings, and with every decision she wants to think it over and come up with how it will affect EVERYONE. She is in touch with all children. The ones that need help raising their grades, and the ones that need to be challenged. The parents at this school are SO involved and I really feel that is what makes it such a great school. You can't complain about a school unless you are "involved." Volunteer and get involved! That is where you truly feel the spirit of OP. The school won the award for BEST SCHOOL IN CHARLOTTE... which is voted on by the people. The people are the parents. When you think about how busy we are all that ALLLL those parents took the time to vote, that to me says it all. I could go on and on about this school. As a Realtor, I purposely chose to buy for this school and I haven't regretted it yet. Every teacher is amazing... when the moms ask what class you are in no matter who they say, someone will chime in.. ohhh she is amazing.... etc.

My daughter has things stolen from her desk almost daily. I took her a sweater 1 morning and the office never called her down to get it. She happened to see it in the office when she was leaving school. Yesterday at 8:30am I dropped off her snack she forgot. They gave it to her after lunch. Extremely disappointed . I feel like a sweater on a cold day and snack when you have a late lunch time are important for an elementary student. The front desk lady doesn't seem to care at all.

Both of my kids have attended OP. My eldest is now in 8th grade at Myers Park and my youngest will be a second grader this coming August. I feel the principal and staff are very good, available and quite competent in their respective roles. Both my daughters have enjoyed their time at OP. You could do much worse; we used to live off Johnston Road and went to Endhaven for a while. Which from what I understand has gone way down hill.

We have been so happy at OP! There is such a wonderful feeling of community here that can’t be missed. The faculty is such a great team that truly will go above and beyond for each other, the students and the community itself. I love how much the leadership values input from parents and is always willing to listen and work together to make OP the place to be!

I am inlove with my daughters school. She has never said to me 'Mom I love my school' till now. The principal is seen all the time greeting parents at drop off, they do family events all the time. her teachers in 1st and 2nd grade have left a positive impact on my daughter. I wont even buy a house yet until she is done here.

Excellent. The current Paideia teacher development initiative is going to help make this great school even better. The support of the administration, teachers and parents is unparalleled.

Our two sons attended OP since Kindergarten to 5th grade. We could not have been happier. The Teachers and staff are amazing and well prepared. We were lucky to have such amazing experience at OP. The PTA is very involved and well organized. I highly recommend Olde Providence to Parents who really care about having a good Elementary School for their Children.

Communication with parents is almost nonexistent. Old, out dated curriculum, teachers seem tired and not willing to work with all students. Maybe this school was better in the past but now anymore. I am taking the advice of a lot of other parents I talked to and plan of taking my kids out of the CMS system.

OP is the place to be! Our family loves the school staff. We are so happy that all the teachers are involved and have a positive approach to learning. Thankfully, we moved to the right area of town to go here!
