This is a very good school for Chinese and Japanese speaking families. Our son goes here and still is attending. Teachers and kids are great here. Since it's bilingual, the kids dont pick up English as in other schools maybe until 3rd grade. Math is way ahead of the other schools. It may need some work on other subjects, but its a small school with limited resources. The principal (the owner) is too busy on all the matters related to the school. If he is not responding, communicating via the teachers usually works. He and his wife do care about the students. We talked to the principal many times in person before sending our kid there. Bullying is NOT tolerated at this school. During our time here, one student was kicked out due to bullying and abusive language to the teachers. And other bullying activities were disciplined and corrected right away. This may be good or bad depending on how your kids will adapt to the real world. Overall, it's a pretty good school. If parents like the Japanese style teaching and environment, this is definitely the right school for you.

This is the absolute worse school my kid has attended. The learning environment is suprressive and the tecahers and administrators are verbally aggressive. Please save yourself the agony and avoid this school at all cost.

Both of my kids have attended Springbridge and have had a great experience. My daughter has been there for 5 years and can speak, read and write in Mandarin and has little to no accents (from what native speakers have told me - neither my husband or I speak it). My son just started last year and has already made a lot of progress in learning Mandarin. The teachers are caring and they look after the wellness of the whole child.

I do not reccomend this school. The children are not the first priority, they teacher work hard but the owner doesn't care. He is only looking to make a buck. If fact I am 99% sure that the owner wrote the two reviews before this.

Springbridge is a great small school that provides both Japanese and Mandarin immersion programs. Our son was part of the Japanese program, and we were happy with the instruction he received and the school community as a whole. During the beginning of the Covid pandemic, the teachers in two weeks switched gears entirely to provide remote learning, and despite the expected issues of remote learning (grade school kids in front of a computer screen all day), the school did a great job of stepping up and keeping the kids on track. The school curriculum is fairly challenging, since they teach a year ahead in math and language, so some students may have a rough time occasionally, but I've found the teachers to be very helpful in helping the students out. As a very small school, it does lack the facilities that a larger school with a larger funding base would have (such as a full size library, computer lab, etc.), but in our case the immersion program trumped these shortcomings at this time in our son's schooling. Our son's Japanese is above his grade level in Japan, and the fact that math is taught in both Japanese and English is a big plus, since it is taught quite differently in the two languages and thus provides a richness beyond common core for mathematics instruction. We would have kept our son at Springbridge, but we ended up moving away from the Bay Area. We'll definitely miss the community there!

Finding a bilingual Japanese-English full-time school in the US is very rare and unusual. Finding such a school with a caring, invested, and inspired leadership is just amazing. The staff is generally in tune with the students, paying attention to student relationships, and care about each child's academic and social development. While the school is of course not absolutely perfect, it has been an oasis of learning and opportunity.Because the school covers two languages daily (either Japanese and English, or Mandarin and English), the homework can seem a bit heavy at times. However, doing math in two languages is, I believe, extremely beneficial for us, as it ensues math is covered twice and from two slightly different approaches. The school has handled the COVID pandemic with exemplary care. During lockdown, the online classes were far superior to most public school offerings, as well as compared to at least one other private school. Even back in person, the school has been extremely careful and does its best to keep students and staff safe. The teachers are generally very good. They are also aware of student dynamics and seem able to figure out what's really going on behind the scenes in he-said/she-said situations, which is a huge relief when there are the inevitable interpersonal issues. It helps there are multiple teachers for the various subjects - they are observant and caring.Daily exposure to a second language has been instrumental in bilingual development. Having talked to many bilingual families, it's clear that daily exposure and daily instruction in one's weaker language (whether English or Japanese or other language) is invaluable, and that is what this school provides. The only real downside in our case is the commuting distance!

Our experience is based on Pre-K. The teachers are very helpful and communicative about our child’s day to day life (both positive and negative, but always in a constructive way). We feel reassured that they’re in good hands knowing that the teachers are there to encourage and guide the students to treat each other with respect, rather than forcing unrealistic ideals (I.e. simple things like - teaching that taking turns is ok, while encouraging polite responses/listening skills, rather than teaching to share everything at all times. )We wish they would make important administrative announcements in English as well, for non-Japanese speaking parents. But we do appreciate them trying their best with all the accommodations they’ve had to arrange due to COVID restrictions. We plan to stay with Springbridge through the elementary school.

School administration is horrible. Teachers are not helping with bullying. Teachers are only helpful for those that are able to keep up. For kids that are behind, no extra help. Parents are not even allowed to talk to the teacher as the principal sees communication between parents and teachers is a waste of time. Horrible school.

Springbridge International in Santa Clara County is the only Japanese immersion school in the San Francisco Bay Area. Our family is very fortunate to live within commuting range. Our daughter is finishing her third year there. We extremely pleased by our decision to select this school. Our daughter loves it too. We see her learning many things so quickly, and her intellect growing faster than we ever imagined. The faculty of Springbridge knows how to provide their students a fun time, while delivering advanced learning opportunities. A very favorable student to teacher ratio, small class sizes, and great communication between teachers and parents benefit the children and helps them reach high academic levels. We strongly recommend this school, and are very proud and satisfied parents of a soon-to-be graduate of first grade at Springbridge.

Our grandson attended Springbridge International School last year for pre-k and is in kindergarten there this year. Springbridge is a wonderful school because all the teachers and staff are very professional and truly care about the students. They are there because they love what they do and want to be there, not simply because they have tenure. The school provides a unique opportunity for learning to be fun in a completely bilingual environment. Excellent after school programs are available as well, with focus on chess, basketball, tennis, cooking and Lego Robotics.

My son jointed Springbridge International school in August 2013, and now he is very happy and confident Pre_K. As parents, my husband and believe this is the best choice we made for son. Teachers dedicate very much and pay attention to details. As bilingual school, Both English and Japanese teachers fully demonstrate their skills and creativity. Principal's policy is very consistent and easy to understand for parents. Since this school is new and small, principal welcome new ideas & suggestions from parents. Parents are very happy to involve school activities. This is the ideal school for the family who wants to be devoted to the education of children. Academic achievement level is pretty high. Children are well mannered and well behave. Tuition per performance is reasonable.

This is a great school for parents who want their kids to be bilingual. They teach in Japanese and English, and there is a Chinese program as well. The kids all speak both languages, and learn in both languages. They also learn far more advanced things than what is taught in other schools. It is also nice you can pick up your kids at 6:00 PM. There are after school programs ranging from chess, basketball, tennis, soroban (abacus), Lego Robotics, Mandarin, etc.

- The school is one of the few Japanese immersion preschools. - It is always a fine balancing act for the school and its teachers to offer Japanese programs while maintaining sufficient English programs to keep the kids competitive in terms of reading and writing with their more mainstream counterparts. I feel, based on my own son's performance, that this is well achieved. - The school is relatively small, which probably allows for strong familiarity between teachers and students. - The after school sports program could improve... - Parent involvement is on the increase, with various parent child engagements provided

Both of my children became fluent in reading, writing and speaking both Japanese and English at this school. In addition, their fundamental academic skills in reading, writing, science and arithmetic advanced well beyond what I expected for their grade level. Both children enjoy being at Springbridge. They developed a strong bond with their teachers and classmates, which makes going to school fun for them year round. The parents also formed a community around the school, sharing child care duties and play dates on school holidays in addition to helping out with festival activities or school events.

The staff care very much about both the students and the parents. Both of my children have attended Springbridge. The class size is good for individual attention. The only negative point I can see is that they are still a young school and are learning how to take care of the business aspect of running a school, which does not detract from what the students receive.

School founders and teachers are excellent. Parents are very involved in school activities. Entire school, students/parents/teachers, seem to work together on a common goal. Great place for education, specially if you are looking for a Japanese culture/language based environment for your little ones.

Springbridge is an excellent multilingual and multicultural school. The teachers in english and japanese are great and have high standards for kids of all grade levels. Having the multiple language instruction during regular school hours allows us much more family time in the evenings and weekends that would otherwise be spent at a separate school. The parents are also very welcome to be involved with the school, and there are many school events celebrating holidays of both Japan and the USA. Our child has been having a great time there for nearly 2 years.

I am Japanese; mother of 4-year-old with an American husband, and all my family love this school! Springbridge International School is a great school for parents who want their kids to learn both English and Japanese, not just to communicate but also let them build academic skills. When my daughter joined this school a year ago, she speaks English the most, and she couldn't speak much Japanese even I speak only Japanese to her the whole time. After a year past, she can now naturally speak Japanese to me or other Japanese moms, and English to who speaks only English. It is amazing how kids learn and absorb like a sponge in a right environment!! Even better, not only switching two different language in her head naturally, but also she can read and write both English and Japanese in age 4. And not only that, the most important thing for me is my daughter loves to go to school, learn, play, and have fun everyday! We are so lucky that we found this school, and I can definitely recommend to all parents who interested in raising kids in global environment.
