Everything you've heard is true: Camas schools really are as great as they're purported to be. We moved to Camas from Portland, and the difference for our kid is undeniable. Liberty Middle School has been particularly great for our tween (now teen), who struggled with some social anxiety after the pandemic. We're grateful to her teachers, most of whom keep us regularly informed about her progress, behavior and grades. She went from indifference and disciplinary problems back in Portland to setting the curve in several of her classes. My partner and I are floored. "Moving to Camas for the schools" is a cliché, I know —and for good reason. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

If you are thinking of moving to Camas for the “great schools”—don’t bother. The things that built the strong school system are actively being destroyed by bad district administration. So many families move here only to be surprised that the reality doesn’t live up to the hype. The district has eliminated all advanced math and ELA courses in both middle schools. The district gives lip service to “seeing and serving each student,” yet continues to eliminate programs for both advanced students and struggling learners. As for Liberty in particular, the student experience is mixed. Some kids are happy at the school, while other kids get bullied. If your kid is slightly above average and has great social skills, then Liberty will be a good experience. But that type of kid would have a good experience at most schools. If your kid needs support or help, it won’t happen here.Home prices and taxes are very high, but the schools are no longer worth the extra cost. Many families are relocating away from Camas, and it’s hard to be the kid “left behind” as many friends move to areas with better schools or decide to go to private schools.

Liberty focuses on kindness, academics, & diversity. 7th period is designed for individual help or study hall to lessen homework.

I used to be a student at Liberty. The three years I spent there were a living nightmare. Teachers easily picked favorites and most bullying was ignored. I've always been the "odd one out" in school but here it was just horrible. I would walk down the halls and people would say horrible things to me because I am a female and I have a girlfriend. I failed horribly due to teachers not having the ability to listen to what I said. If I were a parent, I would never send my child to Liberty. I can't believe that people are so blind to what's really going on. The bullies strutting around in assemblies holding up anti-bullying signs. I made me sick. Now that I am in high school, my grades have gone up significantly. I'm so glad I finally got away from this school.

this school is the best school i have ever been to the teachers keep u in check by telling you your missing something instead of telling your parents and having them responsible for it. they might not take care of situations because they want us students too learn that in life you wont always get the help you want. the teachers teach in thier own way that they think best and sometimes it works for students sometimes it doesnt

Amazing school, teachers, and administration. We are new to the Camas area and were told to stick with home buying within the Camas School District boundary ---- everyone was right! Liberty has been a highlight for my 6th grader this year. Super administration and well organized schedule. My child was able to get into the AP (pre AP) classes available and he is extremely challenged and thrilled to be going to school each day! Love the district and so glad we made the decision to buy a home within the district boundaries.
