First, I would like to acknowledge that there are some wonderful teachers at this school that are deserving of praise and respect. Then there are the ones who are controlling, manipulative, and angry. My older child loved school until 3rd grade here. His teacher would shame him in front of other students when he didn’t follow her directions. My son is autistic. He was placed in a class with a teacher who forces the children to walk clockwise around the room. This is probably one of the most restrictive classes they could have put him in. It was an awful experience. He would come home defeated and would have a look of defeat when arriving at school in the morning. He was reprimanded for telling a little girl her butt was showing. Because “we don’t make comments about other people’s bodies”, but is constantly being called fat. He is constantly being called stupid, which is apparently no big deal, being shamed for not running during PE when he has asthma. So it’s not ok for him to point out to another child that their butt is showing, but perfectly acceptable for him to be body shamed, shamed for a medical condition, and bullied about his disability. If you want to send your child to a school whose office staff doesn’t know your name, after having your children attend 5 years there, after having volunteered there 100 times, where you’re not welcome into the office to pick up your sick child, then this is the place for you. They may claim that it is a security measure, but that is ridiculous as this school is not secure and would be easily entered by someone wishing to do harm. The parking and drop off line is a nightmare because they’ve put the visitor parking aside the drive through line, so you can’t get in or out of visitor parking and the drop off line is backed up and stopped by parents trying to exit the visitor spaces. There is so much wrong with this school that I could keep going, but I will leave it at this… I hope for your child’s sake that you consider other schools in the district, because this school is awful.

Lupin is an amazing school community. Teachers and staff deliver top notch academic instruction through engaging activities that incorporate collaboration and technology. After school activities foster community and parent connection and create a family feel at the school. Special programs like art and music enhance students experiences and new and exciting programs are coming to the school for steam and environmental sciences.

I have been a parent at Lupin for 8 years. The community is beyond supportive. I love the diversity, support and the fact that we have a dedicated Art, Music and Counselor makes it even that much better. The families are inclusive and welcoming and we even have a morning run program that helps get the wiggles out before school. The teachers dedication as well as the staff and front office are beyond measure. We are heartbroken it is our last year at this phenomenal school.

I was asked to review Lupine Hills Elementary because all three of my boys have attended Lupine Hills Elementary, two of them are still currently there. It's our school of choice, as well as where we are zoned because of where we live. While I wasn't very happy when my first child started attending, about six years ago, because of the teachers he was placed with and their respective dismissal of the IEP accomodations for his issues, things have significantly changed for the better since then. The principal has changed twice in that time, and the current principal is fabulous. No nonsense, very professional, with a great sense of humor and the ability to get things done. I am confident in her skills as both a leader for the school as well as an advocate for the teachers AND the students under her care. My two younger boys are on the spectrum, and have needed the associated meetings and evaluations from the school district. In both of their cases, Lupine Hills Elementary has been immensely helpful and I am very happy with how Mrs. Sheldon has helped when necessary. Both of my sons are getting a great education, appropriate to their respective levels of ability; and the various teachers my younger two sons have had and currently have for both mainstream and special ed, are top tier, with both experience and compassion.I can't speak to the experiences of other parents, but I am a big fan of the school under the current leadership, and feel good recommending it for new/prospective families.

We have twins in this school who have attended K and 1st (now in 2nd). Had them in private school in K and pre-kPositives; caring staff and teachers. Very active engaged leadership, safe location. You get the truth about your kid vs private school where your kid is always seemingly “perfect”.Neutral; parking/drop off situation not ideal. School grounds feel dated and not engaging/creative/pleasant. But this is with most public schools as private funds aren’t available.Overall the kids like to attend, and love their teachers. The emotional support is great (more than we could have hoped for).It’s a small school so students don’t feel like a number, which is great. Leadership knows every student. The parent association is very active and operates great.

I have had multiple kid go through Lupin. I have traditional learners and special education learners. I have found that the teachers are caring and want to meet your kid where they are, not where they "should be". That is a huge thing for kids who struggle. I always felt comfortable taking my concerns to the teachers, sped aides, principal, and counselor. Each one has been supportive and hands on when the kid needed it. I never felt like I was annoying them and they always answered my concerns. I can't rave enough about the office staff. They know my name, my kid and greet me when I walk in. I came from a small private school and was afraid to join the large and impersonal public school system. I have felt welcomed and supported ever since day one. The families are friendly and inclusive. I have made some very close friends from the parents I met here. The recent improvements to the campus (brand new state of the art multi purpose room, new 4th/5th grade classroom buildings, expanded parking lot, VAPA teachers) have taken the school from good to great. Because it is located in a small neighborhood it can be tough getting in and out of the school but I have never had to wait longer than a few minutes. The crossing guard is amazing! She guides the kids safely out to the street. My kids still talk about their time at Lupin. It was a great experience for them and I would say you are lucky to go there.

Awful school, discriminates towards certain kids. You need to drive your kid and pick them up. It’s a Monstrosity of a mess every morning you can’t even get into the parking lot to even dropYour kids off. They make it so difficult for the parents but main concern would be how the child is being treated unfairly and the impact it will have on your child from such a young age. Stay away if you have the option! We have had several kids leave a kindergarten class last year. Such a shame so sad

Parents shouldn't be writing reviews that they need to "set the record straight" as every family has a different experience; You may disagree with it, but please acknowledge and empathize with parents who haven't had the same experience as yours. That sort of dialogue is shutting out the opinion of others. Lupin Hill is a fantastic public school if you have a standard child and a good rope learner. Lupin Hill has some wonderful caring teachers, but like all schools, there are ineffective ones as well. There is a bullying issue mainly because they aren't sophisticated enough to understand the complexities. Not all children who experience bullying feel confident enough to speak up when questioned by a principal or counselor, but that doesn't mean the child isn't experiencing a threat. It can mean the child doesn't feel empowered to speak up, or the adult isn't going to be effective. They have a high turnover of special education teachers (as many schools do) and many of these kids are sitting ducks for bullies. The problem is most likely insufficient support and a lack of quality candidates—some great teachers but not enough training for handling children with learning difficulties. My child attended Lupin Hill, and I know parents who loved it and others who had a horrible time. Ii seems it would rate well with anyone who has experienced LAUSD.

Extremely caring teachers and staff. The principle is very hands on, follows through with all issues. He is always available for guidance, support and leadership. School is in a safe, family oriented neighborhood. Up to date classrooms, clean and nice grounds. Office staff is amazing!

Teachers are extremely nice, nurturing and accommodating for all students and parents. Academics are based on what your students level is. Students are seen and heard, academics and social emotional support is off the charts. Principal and Counselor are proactive and supportive. We could not recommend this school enough. Go on tour, you wont be disappointed.

I was told that this was a good school so naturally chose this to be my child's elementary school. My child's teacher is not proactive. She is always grumpy and yells, says my kid that has been attending daycare since 6 weeks old. She is supposed to check lunches every morning in their backpacks but doesn't do that, so had the school charge me 2 weeks of lunches that I was not aware of. Even after, I woke up early to make the lunches EVERYDAY! Another incident= My child had been bringing home library books and nowhere on these books does it tell us when its due back. He was bringing home 5 library books and it was getting heavy, so I left them at home and wrote the teacher a letter and placed it in his class folder asking when they are due back and to please let us know and I will return them. This teacher did not read the letter for over a week but had the audacity on Friday, to take my letter out and put in a late notice of the books with a fine! Great communication! Now, I get that all parents think their child can do no wrong, but when I get a call from the Principal stating that my son was kicking and punching and name calling, please tell the parents the whole story! How can we punish our child if the teacher didn't see what happened? My Husband and I promote standing up for yourself. I need to know the story!

My family loves Lupin. The PFC is a hard-working group of parents that raise funds for the art, music and violin classes on campus along with the Morning Mile activity that takes place EVERY morning for the students! We have never had a bad teacher at Lupin and the speech teacher has been a godsend for my youngest son. I feel that negative comments about the Principal is a reflection on the parent and not on this administrator. Mr Foli is fair and effective. The kids love him too!

This school has an amazing staff. All of the teachers are innovative and experienced. The Principal Mr Foli is well loved by the students and is a hands on administrator. The new office staff is terrific, friendly and warm.

Lacks strong academics and promotes bullying from the top down. The school was far better under the old principal

I grew up in south central. I would have never thought I would have worked myself to a place to offer my son an opportunity like what he has here at this school. As long as they keep up the good work, I am all in. I will say this though, bring your wallet. The donation requests add up. It can be 600-1000 a year for the odds and ends. You get your money's worth but dang.

This school is an absolute nightmare for neurodiverse children (i.e., Gifted, Autism, ADHD, etc.) Special education teachers put all these childen into one classroom, and use punitive, harsh, and restrictive measures to control behavior. This school has no capacity to manage these children in a safe and appropriate manner.

A very stressful experience. The teachers are wonderful; the office administration and principle are absolutely horrible. They should be running a detention center not an elementary school. We will not be returning next year.

this school is very stressful school. we had two kids and we had a horrible experiance in a degree that we moved our kids to mariposa. the principal acts like fbi agent.. we exchanged a few suggestions about the classrooms with her. She was very offensive and angry. she removed us from volunteering. Recepion workers are not freindly at all. You will have a hard time to talk to them. Kids make fun of each other and other kids food. My kids were miserable.
