It is my pleasure to write this recommendation on behalf of my son who attends Adelphi Academy of Brooklyn. Selecting a high school for my son under our circumstances was challenging and stressful however I am confident almost one year in that I made the best choice. Adelphi staff send out weekly class and personalized recaps. All classes send weekly emails for the weeks work ahead so both students and parents are well informed. My emails are always responded to in a quick and thorough manner and the teachers make every effort to adapt to each child's learning style. In the short time he has been at the school he has been on a school outing, in a holiday performance, in a live history walk through, rehearsing for a live musical revue, had multiple field days, has weekly assembly and monthly awards. The students in the school have been very welcoming and supportive. I feel that Adelphi has offered my son a safe space to learn and interact in a way that is developing his ability to engage in age appropriate conversations and behaviors. I am so pleased my son has the opportunity to learn at such a dynamic environment.

Adelphi Academy has greatly helped my child be a better student. The educators are attentive and focused on the growth of each student; academically, socially and emotionally. I especially appreciate how the teachers keep the parents involved by informing parents of the weekly lessons and regularly providing feedback on the student’s progress. My child looks forward to going to school everyday and I am very pleased with the progress being made.

Finding the right school to support my child(ren) in learning is always important and never-ending. Adelphi Academy is the perfect fit for my child who is currently attending. In this short period, my child has gained the confidence to participate in class and school activities. Not only has Adelphi Academy helped my child to become more active in subjects that my child finds interesting, but my child now is actively learning subjects that were not of interest. I find it impressive that my child is now open to understanding differing opinions and is capable of self-correcting when necessary. This is important outside of school as it is in school. It is evident from my child’s experience that Adelphi Academy is a nurturing school environment that teaches the fundamentals of learning and the importance of being knowledgeable, fair and good. I am glad that I decided to enroll my child at Adelphi Academy and highly recommend the school.

My son has attended Adelphi Academy for two years now. He absolutely loves the school and the staff. His teachers are a great encouragement and the academic program is great. It is a small school and allows for a lower student to teacher ratio, giving children more confidence when asking questions, engaging in group activities, and opportunities for one-on-one time with the teachers.Teachers are passionate about seeing their students succeed. They are so great about sharing moments of pride they see within your child – their good behaviors and achievements; and they know the importance of getting the parents involved should an issue arise, and do it in a very respectful, approachable manner.Great team – great school!

I am so happy with Adelphi Academy. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Adelphi worked quickly and provided a true distance learning program. The school has classes in real time, through video all day long from 8:30 to 4:00. Activities and clubs are held also. So many other schools are just sending packets of work home. That’s not the case at Adelphi. It’s amazing what’s happening at Adelphi. Even though we are home, it really feels like my children are in school. I am so grateful for this!

You have to be a certain type of person to survive here.•Good stepping stone, Adelphi was once a prestigious and admired school, for those unaware of it's current state, it is a good look for a resume.•I wasn't acknowledged for the things I was doing successfully, only reprimanded for the things that weren't to par with the school's 'standards.'•In general moral was incredibly low; everyone felt overworked and undervalued.•Little to no room for your own opinions.•No HR Department.•High turnover rate, hardly any seasoned teachers.I've seen in other reviews a lot of people bashing the Head. I think she generally cares for the well being of all the students and employees. The school is in actuality run through the operations office, and the Head is just used as the image. She gets a lot of heat for things that are really out of her control. She has no real say in what takes place at her own school. Every single decision is made through the Operations Office, hence why he is in every meeting whether it be academic, parent based, or employment based. Therein lies the real problem.

My experience at this school has been a great one. As an educator, it is known that you have your ups and downs, however, it is always worth it in the end when you see that your students are succeeding - and that is all because of you.

I try to post a fair an honest review on my experience on working at Adelphi Academy, and the review is continuously being deleted due to the school's attempt at a clean up job. I have been nothing but truthful and real regarding my time working there. If you don't have a family, a relationship, friends, pets, or hobbies, you may thrive working here. You are expected to work very long hours (to which you are not compensated appropriately for) and it takes away almost completely from any personal life you may have. Staff is often degraded and told/felt that they are incompetent. New ideas and perspectives from staff are immediately shut down and shamed hence why the school and systems are so outdated. Clear preference is given to those who are easily manipulated by management - if you dare to even imply a question about one of their methods, you are marked from the jump. It's a very stressful environment. It is normal practice for staff to leave in the middle of the school year or quit over the weekend with no notice. Just goes to show there is something wrong with the work environment, not the people who get hired. If you love children, if you care about families, if you are a good person with a strong sense of right and wrong - stay far away from this place and yell as loud as you can to stand up against them and the methods of "educating" children that they promote.

Excellent experience as I have observed that both parents and school staff agree on the same goal in order to help each child's success.

I have heard so many wonderful things about Adelphi from my neighbors, whose children are currently enrolled. They tell me how excited their children are to come to school and how much fun they have each day in class. There are always exciting events taking place at the school – from plays to art shows to academic ceremonies – and the families are always included. I wish my children were still young enough to attend, but nonetheless I do enjoy hearing the stories about this wonderful school from this wonderful family.

As a proud member of the Merchants of Third Avenue Business-Civic Association, I can attest to the hard work and effort put forth by members of the administration and staff of Adelphi Academy of Brooklyn. Our organization has partnered with Adelphi on numerous projects and community events and the school is always willing to support Third Avenue endeavors. As a trusted member of the neighborhood for more than 50 years, we continue to rely on Adelphi for its leadership and support.

I am the spouse of a current employee at Adelphi Academy of Brooklyn and can tell you that my partner comes home each and every evening thankful to be a part of such a warm professional environment. The hours can certainly be long, especially as big events draw near, but the payoff is seeing the school’s wonderful students having the time of their lives on the big day! I have attended several events throughout the school year as my spouse’s guest, and have always come away feeling like the teachers and staff really care about their students and each other. Moreover, it is clear from everyone I’ve met that they care deeply about Adelphi and its rich legacy as one of Brooklyn’s oldest private schools. I definitely recommend paying a visit to the school to see for yourself what I have come to see regularly through my spouse’s eyes.

My child is enrolled in this school and seems to like it. However I just worry about the revolving door of teachers. Where do they keep going, and why do they keep hiring new ones? Something brewing below the surface..................

They use children as a funding source. No room for advancement, salary is very low, working conditions are deplorable, its a job going NOWHERE!! Nonexistent work/life balance.Management was absolutely God awful. They were cliquey and completely unsupportive if you "pushed back" on feedback, which could range from anything. E-mails are often framed in a way to discredit your work ethic and they will fabricate and embellish situations to cover their tails and further discredit you as the teacher. They have unrealistic expectations for teachers and no real measures of support to assist teachers with meeting these "expectations".There is an ongoing feeling among all the staff that we are not seen as people, but as workhorses, and any life we might have outside of Adelphi holds no value.More to the point, this hurts the kids too. They notice how miserable the adults in their lives are, and miserable adults are less patient and kind adults, to say nothing of the fact that the authority figures in these children's lives are constantly cycling in and out. The kids may have amazing test scores, but I think a lot of them are being psychologically and emotionally affected by being in this environment, especially in their formative years. Setting a child up for success means setting them up emotionally as well as academically, and sacrificing the emotional well-being of teachers to the point where they can't support their students is setting a lot of them up for failure. I've seen multiple children lag academically or emotionally because teachers they had special connections with left suddenly, and they lost trust in adults and made it much harder for other teachers to connect with them on the same level.Adelphi is obsessed with becoming better and better with every year, and I feel like teacher and staff morale is a frontier that they really should focus on going forward. Sacrifices have to be made to give teachers a proper work-life balance, but I think it's an investment that will ultimately pay off in not only retention, but in the emotional and developmental well-being of our kids.

The school is wonderful! My daughter enrolled this year as a 9th grader and she loves it. The school stays true to the mission and the teachers deliver what is promised. Any time I have a question or concern, it is addressed right away. There is so much communication between school and home.

As a retired NYC Department of Education Teacher and current community activist in Bay Ridge, I am so impressed with the quality of the educational programs and opportunities available to the students at Adelphi. The atmosphere is so conducive to learning. There are so many programs available for all types of students and the renovations are incredible! Most important is the emphasis on community and school service. The students and faculty volunteer for many community events and I am so grateful for that. My only regret was not having sent any of my now grown children to this school. Chip C.
