Could not have been more pleased with Kindergarten here. Fantastic teachers, administrative staff, nurse etc.Wonderful environment for learning and being creative. No complaints at all after one year. Looking forward to moving into the new facility at Johnson K-8!

It is really SAD that someone from the community would post absolutely incorrect information about our wonderful school. We have had some challenges over the past few years because of a change in leadership and county issues. However, we are now a B school! My children are receiving an amazing IB education. They are challenged and love coming to school! Visit ibo.org to learn more about an IB education. It is also the only public elementary school that I know of that teaches Spanish. They are truly better prepared for middle school than their peers at other A rated schools. The TEACHERS ARE AMAZING!!! Also like the parent that posted on February 8, Wakeland is just being considered for relocation not closure based on the condition of the school.

The teachers and parents are completely committed to the students. There is no one I have talked to who can deny the stellar education students at Wakeland receive, even those who have left to attend other public schools in Manatee county. My children love school. Only a great school fosters love of learning! Please check facts before submitting reviews, especially if you are not familiar enough with the school to reflect it honestly. Wakeland has demonstrated extreme success in its standardized testing over the last year, which will be confirmed when the FSA test scores are released this month. The school has never taught only to see success on standardized tests but rather success in academics as a whole. Again, facts are incorrect in other reviews about recent discussions regarding Wakeland. District is not proposing to close the school because of academic performance. The school will not be closed, only relocated due to foundation issues in the building that may potentially be too expensive to repair, but even that has not yet been determined.

Do your research before selecting Frances Wakeland Elementary School.School grades have declined steadily over the past several years. It was rated by the FLDOE as a "D" school in 2014, after being rated a "B" school in 2012. This change in performance coincided with a change in leadership at the school. In recent years, there has been high teacher turnover, especially in the Upper Elementary grades. Because of poor performance on standards-based assessments, and a failure to adequately blend their IBO curriculum with State of Florida learning goals, Manatee County is considering closing the school down permanently.

Wakeland is a school that teaches to the whole child. Teachers go above and beyond to ensure that all students needs are met. There is not only high quality instruction but character building and real world experiences. There is a great sense of community felt as soon as you walk in the doors.

Wakeland is such an amazing school! Teaching and learning in a different way, no turning the pages of a text book here! Collaborative learning through inquiry and differentiated learning! If you are looking for a school that pushes and challenges students to think outside the box, this is the school for you!

My kids are so happy at Wakeland! I truly believe they are getting the best education Manatee county has to offer. My kids need to be academically challenged and I have found this to be a great alternative to Pineview. The teachers and staff at Wakeland are truly outstanding! They want to make their students and parents happy. They want you there, my kids are not just another number in an overcrowded classroom. The extra IB training that our teachers have gone through just to teach at Wakeland is reflected everyday in their collaborative lesson plans. They are able to differentiate in every core subject they teach. It's a bonus that my kids have Spanish class twice a week! I'm so glad we found Wakeland!

Students of Wakeland are caring, creative, kind and thinkers! I love how my kids are academically challenged and enriched by taking action in school, at home and in our community. The teachers and staff truly care about each, and every one of our kids and their well-being. I'm lucky to be able to send my kids to Wakeland! I know that my kids are going to make a difference in this world, because the teachers, staff and administration lead by example and want the best for our kids. I'm a proud parent!

Do not send your child here PLEASE!! Unsafe school, principal not protecting the children. My child was put in harms way several times on school grounds and principal blames my child and refused to work with our family. Teachers are bad. After several IEP meetings our teacher lied saying my child was on grade level but after meetings we got notices saying she failed standard tests. Police got involved in other events, it's gone down hill and there's plenty of other schools in the area for your child to get a good education. This school knows nothing about IB, and should not have that credential!

Each year, under the current administration, this school falls further behind. I believe it is currently a D school (2014) after being a C school in 2013, and a B school in 2012.

I went here from 1st through 5th grade, and it was a great school. They handled bullying (When it happened) really well, and I learned a lot. I am going into Algebra this year, and it is in part because of Wakeland.

Change in leadership and county cut backs have caused us to rethink our choice of Wakeland. We believe in the IB methodologies, but staff turnover and reduced funding are taking their toll. Factor in that Johnson Middle's IB program is struggling and the incentives to choice to Wakeland are not what they were two years ago.

As I look back at my sons first year of school, VPk, I am overwhelmed with the knowledge he has learned. My 4 year old is making sure he is a Risk Taker when trying things for the first time, being principled and caring, and learning how things relate to his own body by the choices he makes and how that personally effects him. The principle is awesome! His teacher was AMAZING. Every Friday you receive a weekly review of what the children has learned. Each child also has a daily agenda to communicate from teacher to parent. I am so thrilled and honor to have my child attending Wakeland !

I cannot say enough about this school. The principal and entire staff are 110% committed to the kids. My children love being there and they are growing and becoming internationally minded young people, while being constantly challenged in academics.
