Bullying is rampant at Douglas Middle school. They don’t do anything about it and try to sweep it under the rug. My child was attacked by another child and the school officer said it wasn’t “assault”. The current principal told me “our school isn’t nearly as bad as others.” As to suggest bullying is normal and completely bypassed the situation at hand. The previous principal forgot to remove us from an email thread where I was concerned about our child’s safety, and he wrote back, “This should be interesting. I will be in tomorrow. Keep me appraised of how this conversation goes please.” He made it very clear he didn’t care for our child’s safety. Obviously this is a trend with the current principal as well. They don’t have good firewalls on their computers so your child can search ANYTHING and EVERYTHING. Do they correct it? Nope. They just punish the child and go on their merry way. If your child has their computer privileges taken away, they will have an extremely difficult time getting any homework done. We had issues with their phones contacting us and we missed a lot of updates. We checked with our carrier and with the company that made our phones and it was determined it was their phone lines. Again, we were blamed for it and it wasn’t fixed. It’s extremely hard to see what homework is due and where we can find it to help our child. It’s very much “let the parents figure it out”. Our children’s medical info wasn’t properly entered in and we only found out after our child was attacked and we inquired if emergency services were provided for child. They looked at us funny and asked why. They pulled our child’s info and it showed it had no medical information on it but when they pulled our intake form, his medical information was printed neatly for them to copy down into their system. This school is ok (at best) if you have a cookie cutter child. If your child needs any extra help, they don’t help like they should and it doesn’t help your child prepare themselves for high school.

If you have a cookie cutter kiddo, academically they may be ok. If you have a sped kiddo not so much. And it spills into the high school. They simply do not get updated and educated. That is a choice they've made. They've been offered up opportunities for seminars and instead, they opt for teacher planning days doing other things, despite the fact that a quarter of ther students district wide have a disability. And the bullying within the middle school is ridiculous and not handled which spills over into the high school setting. My kiddo on the spectrum who was horribly bullied is now 21 and is still scared by his experience at the Middle and high school.

I am trying to get my child into another school as the Box Elder School District is run by individuals who do not want to give an education, they just want a pay check.

We love Douglas Middle School! My daughter is a 7th grade student at Douglas and lives being there. The Teachers are very attentive with each students teaching needs. My daughter is on an IEP. As soon as we enrolled her with all the proper documentation, it took no time at all to get her in the classes to accommodate her special needs!! The Kids love their Principal and he's always involved with the kids after school activities. He's always at a game cheering them on!! This school doesn't tolerate bullying of any kind!! Kids are constantly reminded about our school being a tobacco & drug free environment! The sports we have in the school is also amazing!! As a parent of two children , I highly recommend this school. Not only did we move to Box a Elder to enroll our kids in the school District for the best education, so did 3 other families we know!!! GO PATRIOTS!!

Not good, a lot of bullying goes on and nothing is done about it, ineffective administration. Some good teachers and some not so good. Not secure, front doors are open leading straight to the cafeteria, no security guards. Fights break out in the schoolyard and no teachers are present as they are supposed to be, I would not recommend this school in it's present state.
