This school is concerning. In the morning when you are dropping your kids off, 99% of the time the staff outside is either rolling their eyes or has a huge attitude issue. There have been fights that have broken out between the kids and some occasions where the adults have gotten into physical fights and the local authorities have been called to handle the situation. The older children that are just hanging around outside of the school during pickup are constantly cursing and several parents are no different. There is no security for who is authorized to pick up your child and who isn’t because most of the people at the drive-up are just barely middle school aged. If your child is having trouble with anything academically, it’s a hit or miss here. Some teachers don’t have enough experience to help and then the school doesn’t have the resources to help more. I would not send your children here. It’s just all-around a poor environment and lacks the motivation for kids to want to do and be better academically.

If I could Put no stars I would , I hate This school they don’t give homework they rude and then when you Be rude back they be looking crazy. They will call you over and over about your child and and sometimes be lying and You will catch them in a lie and then they will turn it and say the Illinois law stuff. They will team up on the color kids and give them a label as if they’re the bad kids and they can’t control the color kids and everything…The whole staff need to be fired !!!

The front desk lady is RUDE! She will literally ignore you, but if a Spanish speaker comes in she jumps up and helps them. While acting like you were never there or needed help. They are not helpful with getting your child where they need to be. They are there for a paycheck, that is all. And the teachers that ARE great- leave.

I would not recommend this school to anyone. I've had to visit the school district office several times about the things that go on here.

I see reviews that are old. My child started 1st grade here in 2012 and I've had problems with lazy teachers. It seems that many teachers here hardly want to work. I barely no anything my child studies in class because the teachers do not communicate anything to parents. For 2016: no monthly newsletter, no weekly info of homework, no emails from the teacher... nothing. And when you tell the principal you'd like to know what's going on, nothing happens.

I don't know why this school is rated so low. Both of my children go to this school and I have had great experiences with the staff. Most of the parents I've encountered that have an issue with this school is due to their children's behavior and not due to any failure from the school or its staff.

Independence is a great school. My child was having some issues in the classroom and the staff was very attentive to my child's needs and they were very encouraging to me about his progress. I would highly recommend this school.
